Slow Motion Jump Editing (AKA: Sam's Jump-a-ma-tron)

It appears this version of Liza's SP is available in HD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h10CeQJKQtk

The quality is a bit better (still a shaky fan-cam), the camera angle is not really to my liking. Do you think that's worth a second attempt?

Dunno, maybe there could be less blur with this one... I haven't tested it yet.

Edit: Yes, there's less blur. I will make a second attempt with this.

Okay, here's a different camera angle... same deal -- slow motion, reverse, close-up:

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva 3A Triple axel (Part Deux) up to 720p HD... sorta

Thanks sabinfire for such a lovely closeup. I must say that she has excellent technique on it and in slo-mo, it is even more obvious she gets good height and lift on the 3A and there is only a slight pre-rotation skid. This means she is less likely to get an UR call which has plaqued Mao Asada due to tendency of having a substantial pre-rotation in the axel.

Wow! You're fast at this. :)

Thanks Krislite & Globetrotter! I've gotten a lot of practice... ;)

Not to minimize the effort of the second video, but it was almost a cut & paste job since I did the same thing in both 3A videos. That, and the fact that I was sitting on my sofa watching TV and saw the original Liza request on my iPad. It was like a call to action, I ran to my PC like a volunteer fireman.

Her take-off edge looks very clean, pretty much like a double Axel. She leaps up forward.

I have a technical question to Sabinfire or anyone who can offer insight.

I'm having a few technical difficulties. When editing videos I've noticed that when I slow down certain videos I get a blur. After reading up on this it would seem the best way to counter the blur is to increase the frames per second on the original video and then render the video at less frames per second. An example given is if the video was 60 frames per second and I turned the velocity to 50 percent then I should render it at 30 FPS. Apparently Sony Vegas sample replaces frames and by slowing the video down it may be bending frames to fill empty frames during the velocity adjustment and in turn creating the blur. I guess this can be disabled but I've never done anything like this.

Sabinfire has way better slow motion videos than I do and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if there are any tips that may help fix this problem.

I'm actually not doing anything special that I'm aware of... I just dump videos directly into Sony Vegas and then usually render them in 30 FPS.

Let's start with the easiest questions first:

What kind of computer setup are you using? Laptop, desktop? Specs? Do you have a mid to high-end graphics card that Sony Vegas supports and can utilize? (Sony Vegas uses the GPU of my NVIDIA GeForce graphics card... which didn't come cheap and costs almost as much as my iPad2 Air. It can run Oregon Trail like a dream, though.)

Are you encountering blur even with high-quality videos as your original source? There seems to be a bit of disconnect as to what qualifies as "high-quality" from person to person. I typically use the best quality videos that I have in my possession when posting vids in this thread. Even when I upload these HQ videos to YouTube in 1080p60, they still look like garbage compared to my original source video on my PC...

Maybe the first step would be for me to send you (what I consider to be) an HQ video clip, and you can experiment with the velocity. If you still have the same issue, we can start looking elsewhere...

When editing videos I've noticed that when I slow down certain videos I get a blur.

Are you working on something in particular right now that is giving you issues with blur? Or is this just a general observation while editing videos?

(Just curious, wanted to experiment if I were to encounter the blur using the same source video.)

I'm on video editing break for a few days. Lol. Elizabet's and Yuzuru's took a lot out of me. Lol. I'm searching for a HD version of Yulia's 2a-3t-2t for a jumpamatron project but her best is from 2012 JWC FS. Maybe just the angle is the best but I really really like that jump combination. I'll probably do a WC ladies SP remix again but that requires like 6 full program to whittle down.

To actually answer your question...it's just a general question.

You're on a video editing sabbatical. ;) Good timing for it, with a couple weeks till Worlds. This thread should see some serious action during WC.

I was looking through some old videos and was watching Yulia at 2012 Russian Nationals... seeing all the Leonova banners/promos everywhere was just another reminder of how quickly things can change.

Actually, I've been wanting to do more video editing... just trying to find the right inspiration/motivation for the next project.

Guess I'll take this opportunity to look back at some skaters from yesteryear -- as long as I have the HD video for it -- and resurrect my Spinamatron before Worlds rolls around.

i just had an idea but since i never used the program i dont know if it would be possible or easy to make, idea is to capture skater's faces during jumps or spins! its not to make fun or anything, its just that some of the skaters have the best faces , thought it would be fun project and we all can relax before worlds

Interesting idea, though that would be extremely difficult to do. You'd need just the right footage, which would be tough to find. Taking standard footage, slowing it way down and zooming in on a face during a spin would probably result in a lot of blur. You'd really need stop-motion photography to really capture what you are looking for. And some things probably shouldn't be in slow-motion anyway...

Happy to see my Tano'marathon-a-matron vid has found new life -- probably a link was posted somewhere else on the net. It's seen a huge spike in views the past few days, well over 1k views at this point! 'tano forever.

Liza's take-off skid here is perfect, it is a perfectly rotated 3A. No UR issue at all. Could compare to Joshua's 3A take-off skid.

Jason Brown has been given charge of the USFSA's instagram account.

He has post his own clip of jumps not unlike many of the fine examples you all have done. Pay very close attention to the clip he uses for Josh's 3A.

I think I recognize that clip. ;)

I'm in crazy editing mode tonight, put up a couple new vids a bit earlier.

Decided to play with the new tricks I've learned while editing these types of videos over the past few weeks:

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva mega Jumpamatron (1080p HD)

Not the best spinner, but Liza finally deserves her own Spinamatron  :

May be posting a couple more vids tonight (no more Liza, though... for now)
