2015 Worlds Free Dance March 27

we definitely need this... worried that there will be only one men going to the worlds next year for Canada... hoping Alaine keeps her ranking in the women...
Haha just got it. ;) And BTW I'm Canadian too. Our man Chan WILL be back!! :D

Fun fact: this is the tenth consecutive season in which Canadians placed on the Podium in dance:

2006: 2nd, 2007: 2nd (Dubreuil / Lauzon)
2008: 2nd, 2009: 3rd, 2010: 1st, 2011: 2nd, 2012: 1st, 2013: 2nd (Virtue / Moir)
2014: 2nd, 2014: 3rd (Weaver / Poje)

Also note the nice little dovetailed footnote: D/L are technically *almost* on the podium this year as well, given that they train P/C.

At the rate they're going, W/P could make it a run until 2018. They're not slowing down anytime soon and tonight was the one time they didn't make the top of the pile all season.
#keepinitreal if Weaver & Poke slower down anymore, they would come to a stop.

Struggling in Pairs? They are the only country which have the luxury of sending Pairs no.3, 4, 5 (two of them young at their first worlds, one only 1 year together) and have all of them top 10, 2 teams in top 6. ;) Not medaling at worlds this year, after many years, it's nothing. They will be back next year way stronger. Mark my words.

Yes well I wouldn't bet against you because look what happened with Russian skating after Vancouver. And Mama (hopefully) didn't raise a sucker. ;)

The moment reality sets in that the offseason is pretty much upon us. I guess I was ignoring that fact :)

LALALALA can't hear you....

well at least this year we still have WTT to go, not that it's always well skated but I just find it fun to see when everyone is supporting one another

Typo? ;)

They had one less-than-stellar competition. Still year-to-year at this point. They didn't slow down this season, not even at 4CC. Perhaps it was the pressure of coming in as the favourites that got to them? They didn't seem to skate with as much abandon as before. They did get past the C/L this year from a year ago, now that's a team that's on the bubble ...

I do agree that DW and VM had some blah programs and mistakes. But they were sharp, crisp, clean, and *mostly* did not make mistakes on their twizzles. Plus they seemed much smoother on the ice with better speed and coverage than most teams today. Plus they were fearless, no hesitation or pause going into their elements, just well oiled machines pumping out perfect programs.

I agree with that! :)

However, they are responsible for the constant mess up on twizzles these days, but in a good way - they were pioneers in twizzles. In 2006, even the Olympic Champions' twizzles were laughable compared to today's twizzles. D&W and V&M made twizzles so good that everyone had to catch up, and obviously not everyone is a natural-born twizzler. Hard work can only go so far and we the results of even talented teams constantly messing them up. They have been so complex. Only 2 sets were required a quad ago. Now... 3 sets and in crazy positions and inside/outside edges.

They skated with less ease than usual and made some unnecessary (IMO) changes to their Vivaldi program. However, I don't think they put a foot wrong all season with the exception of some minor tight moments. That shouldn't be penalized that harshly.

The evils of autocorrect.

And I'm referring to the fact that they are slow on the ice. Most teams that use frenetic arm movements do it to cover their poor skating skills and edges while Weaver and Poje do it cover the fact that they are going slow. At least they have nice edges.

yup... i agree with you here
i think KW's reactions both after the SD and FD show that... Krylova said something like "that was hard for you" after the SD and after the FD, when the score and deduction came in said "well, that's it then" or something like that :) I feel that she's been struggling with pressure? or perhaps has some injury? I mean most of these athletes have bumps and bruises but yeah...

They have more problems in men. ID is still a question mark, but much better. I believe in I&Z and Y&M coming next season (of course they have to build a reputation at first), there is S&B and who knows about S&K. They are in working progress right now. I knew in advance that Russia would lose the 3 spots (I had very little hope just because I'm an I&Z fan), but hopefully this will teach something to the RUS fed. Push them and all couples to stand out more, with some decent programs and packaging. Sometimes bad things are a blessing in disguise.

If you want to be World Champion, skate to MOZART.
1. Gordeeva and Grinkov
2. Carolina Kostner
3. This French team

Hee hee :)

And I agree that they lack the polish that Voir or Marlie had in the past. W/P were noticeably slower tonight than usual, perhaps that's what got them. They were not skating to win: they were skating not to lose.

Glad that Andrew did the selfie at the end on the podium with all of them. It was still an accomplishment for all three teams.

I am so happy Mozart won! He was a genius, God himself. The devil in me says I am even happier that coco/Bates did not win, that would have been a disgrace for figure skating.
I really liked Gabriela and Guillome, they were so delicate, airy, beautiful. The score was out of some decent limits, but normal after the splat fest with the Americans.
Second place are W/P, Shibutanis, C/L, and G/P and the rest of the skaters.

Wow for the French Amazing score; didn't see that what a shocker. I mean I could see them winning but with that score and with the error in the twizzles and generally while they have a great package not necessarily the best skating skills yet. I kind of thought Weaver and Poje deserved to win and part of me loves the diva in Chock - no the Italians really look like they are trying too hard and missing the mark imho REally odd results - hard to figure out what the judges did or why but thye agreed obviously. REally odd.

They've played it safe. After what V&M went through with their The Seasons program, I would think this is the last thing they would pick. When people criticize your choices for being too bold, you double down.

ah watched lovely Eleanor Rigby:cheer2:. so happy they moved into top 10 thats all I wanted:dance:

lol at all the talk about the death of our ice dance

Yanovskaya/Mozgov are coming  & I bet I/Z wil come into their own next season & S/B will do something interesting (& less hectic hopefully)
+ S/K can still succeed
I dont care about Nikita haters:biggrin:
More than excited for the future!

Some of you have compared Papadakis/Ciceron´s FD to Virtue/Moir´s Mahler. I think it is a spot on comparison, since both programs have such airy feel, easiness and magical quality in them. Well deserved win for he French! Their SD and FD were the best programs overall this season in Ice Dance. It might be difficult to get it so right the second time in a row but we´ll see. They could pull out something even more fantastic! I see huge potential there, more so than with any other Ice Dance couple at the moment.
