Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

I have always been confused as to why it would be advantageous to dope in biathlon. As you say, it would work for the skiing part. But surely you need to be fully with yourself when you're shooting. Like, it is only a very small target, and it is a good distance away. And if you are doped up to the two eyeballs, surely there is more chance of missing.
The dark ages of doping are long over. I assure you, most of the athletes that are doping are fully aware of themeselves while competing, not only in biathlon. That's because the substances like ephedrine and cocaine are so easily detectable and, as mentioned, they would be counterproductive in biathlon because of the shooting. Drugs that would be beneficial in the shooting part (like beta-blocker, they put the heartrate down) are counterproductive in the cross-country skiing part and are also easily detectable.
But drugs that enhance endurance (like EPO) don't affect the shooting negatively, quite the opposite, because the heartrate goes down faster before shooting. So you shoot better and you run faster. That's a win-win.

Does anybody have any idea what she is talking about?! (Or what is inside that wrapper...?)

That's a really cute video!
I don't speak Russian but some words sound familiar :P I think she's thanking someone (fan? sponsor? I don't know :P) for giving her favourite candy bar.

I can also only understand a bit. Hello team [something]. Thank you for your support, [something] to me is very important, and thank you for products (literal... don't know what this means), [something about the candy bar]

Final results of Round 1:

1. Ekaterina Yurlova (Biathlon) 37.7%
2. Liza Tuktamysheva (Figure Skating) 30.8%
3. Pavel Kolizhnikov (Speed Skating) 23.1%
4. Maxim Mihaylov (Volleyball) 5.6%
5. Semion Elistratov (Short Track Skating) 2.8%

So, as I expected, Yurlova and Tuktamysheva go through to Round 2.

All Round 1 votes have now been wiped, so we need to vote again if we want Liza to win. Here is the link:

http://news.sportbox.ru/Vidy_sporta..._i_Tuktamysheva__v_finale_Zolotogo_pjedestala

It is pretty even between them at the moment (19:30 BST):

1. Ekaterina Yurlova (Biathlon) 50.4%
2. Liza Tuktamysheva (Figure Skating) 49.6%

The second phase of voting ends TONIGHT at 21:45 MSK (20:45 CEST / 19:45 BST).

Eeek. I didn't realise that it finished today. That means there's only 5 minutes left!!!

I voted again. It's hard to tell if it went through though, or if the voting is even valid anymore at this moment. :confused2:

that candy bar is herbalife's protein bar. after the end of samsung's sponsorship, liza sponsored by herbalife from april, 2014.
Perhaps the company provide weight control programs and products for her.

Russian athlete of the month.

If you want to know more, see my previous posts about Round 1, and Round 2

There was a shortlist of 5, who were put to a public vote. And then the top 2 from the first phase went through to the final round, where they were voted on again.

It was always going to be between Tuktamysheva and Yurlova.

Not sure if it is anything significant, but it was being televised on Россия-2, so I guess it is.

The important thing is, Liza won! :cheer:

Thank you to you and to Caustica for filling us in and what she was talking about.

Even though it was a sponsorship thing, she is still super-cute in the video!

Another interview with Liza in a local paper, not a lot of new info but I translated a little bit of it:

http://vppress.ru/stories/Elizaveta-Tuktamysheva-Moya-zhizn-niskolko-ne-izmenilas-29400

Everyone knows of your coach Aleksei Mishin. Less is known of other people who work with you. Please tell about your team.
First of all, there is a wonderful choreographer Tatyana Nikolaevna Prokofieva who works with me every day. Then there are two choreographers from the Mariinsky Theatre Yuri Smekalov & Vladimir Varnava. Yuri worked on my short program and Vladimir on the long. Also I do some off-ice training with Marina Kislova & Vitali Balykin. So there are many people involved in working with me.

Aleksei Mishin is known for his wit and sharp tongue, his jokes are not always for the girl’s ears. How do you cope with this?

I know that he is a kind person and never intends to hurt anyone. All his words or jokes are really for the sake of the result.

Let’s go back to your short program. How your Bolero was born. Did you have any doubts due to its being used before a lot.

What’s to say? Classic is classic, and everyone could skate to this music in their own way. If you are a professional it shouldn’t be worse than what was demonstrated before you. That’s why we weren't afraid of taking it. It was Mishin’s idea, I too liked the music. It is important to put your soul into skating then all will be fine.

What’s next, will you be preparing a new surprise for your competitors? For instance a quad jump – toe loop or salchow?

At the moment it is more important to hold on what’s already achieved. I am only giving myself a couple days for resting and then back to practising for WTT in Japan. Next season we will work on putting 3A in the lp as well. It is too early to even think about quads.

Oh I see. Thanks ! I was late for voting but congrats Liza ^^

^Thanks for the translation. :yay:

As we approach WTT, I've been rewatching Liza's 2011 Japan Open performance. It was the start of her 2011-12 season, where she won both her GPs (the first debutant to do so) and made GPF. She's a better skater now than she was then, but it was fun to look back on this performance, where many people started noticing her. Hopefully she can deliver a successful performance in Japan this year, now as World Champion.

I suspect that in the home country of Midori Ito, Yukari Nakano and Mao Asada, Liza Tuks can't help but to attempt the 3A in WTT. Almost like it is a Japanese skating tradition that 3A must be attempted even by ladies. From what I read, Wakaba Higuchi is also practising it and I can certainly imagine her landing one in the future. both Wakaba and Tuks have the sort of edge control and power in the jumps to dare the 3A.

Someone has posted a video about Liza with English translation of it-not the whole video, but the most important phrases were translated. I saw it on GS forum, or on this Fan forum just before two or three days and now I can’t find it anywhere. Could just anyone say me where is it? Or is it now deleted? I think it was this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Kz-e8224kk

A really nice translation of highlights was made by quiqie at FSU:

New interview with Liza for LOOK-TV

https://youtu.be/qEEgkWVuYvQ

I watched it with subtitles which are even worse than Google Translate, but I think it was enough to get the gist...she talks about her training, the cities she likes, her future plans, etc.

A short interview with Liza:

http://www.sports.ru/others/figure-skating/1028824610.html

Re: World Team Trophy : I don’t feel any tiredness so there is no way I would miss World TT. Just the opposite I want to go Japan very much.
Re: Worlds: I live my life the same way as I did before this win. It seems that my friends are more excited than I am about this victory. I don’t feel any particular euphoria – just complete calmness. It may be called the satisfaction at a job well done. That’s all.
Re: Competition: Yes, I would want Lipnitskaia & Sotnikova to come back. But when I mentioned that in Shanghai I said that it would be interesting not more interesting. Because Lena Radionova and Anya Pogorilaya do not give me a chance to relax as it is and to compete with them and win is not easy and simple at all. As regards the triple axel it is not a panacea, the most important thing is to skate cleanly and consistently; if you make mistakes and fall then no 3A would save you.
