Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Panda's Wei cute anecdotes about conference in Shanghai: https://droppedpearl.wordpress.com/...worlds-2015-mens-free-skate-press-conference/

Three medalists are so cute.
Anecdote 1: After Victory Ceremony, Yuzuru was the first one among three came to press room. Since not all medalists were here, despite the moderator said we could ask question to Yuzuru only, the press were a bit hesitated and the room was filled with awkward silence. Then Yuzuru said “Please ask if you have any question, please. I haven’t done the Q&As with writing press, so please.”(「どうぞ、どうぞ。僕まだペンやっていないので、どうぞ。」)Nice consideration!

I bet they didn't ask anything even after that.

Yuzu's words about Machida's retirement are so wise.
Just never fails to impress.

Credit to the uploader. But yeah, I know this season this sounds so surreal. :slink:

Probably just cross the marks of 100 and 200, but not too much over. There was a bit of Olympic inflation in his WR SP at Sochi. The TES was not inflated, but the PCS was a little inflated. I don't think judges are willing to give over 46 PCS in a post-Olympic season. But if he skates in Japan, maybe he would get a bit more inflation, even in a post-Olympic season.

If judges throw eights for PCS to Nam, Brown and Kovtun, then high
9 and 46 for Yuzu would be only fair.

The judges can do that since PCS are relative. But sometimes they are unwilling because there are still 3 years till the Olympics. If you inflate the score too much now (like 46+ in SP and 95+ in LP), then you will have to give 50 PCS (in SP) or 100 PCS (in LP) at the Olympics as the program difficulty tend to rise over the Olympic cycle. So usually scores in the post-Olympic season tend to be lower than in the Olympic season.

you have a point but yuzuru constantly increasing his tech and difficulty (this season he couldnt do as much as he would like to for obvious reasons) so i dont think that approach would be applied to him , not that i want judges to give him high PCS when he does mistakes ;)

Yuzu skating skills was good and now even better as we've seen this season, and with his gorgeous spins, jump flows, presentation and technical prowess I believe he will be able to receive >46 if he hit >51 TES not only in Japan.

Based on the below results, Yuzu received PCS 45.28 with TES 49.92 at Worlds 2015 in Shanghai. If he nailed that Chopin 4T for a TES of 53.72 (as the video suggested) or Sochi perfect skate TES 54.84 he will surely receive PCS 46 or more at Shanghai.

- Even Javi with skating skills less than Yuzu would have received 46, if he hits > 50 TES at the 2015 European championship based on the results below.
- Jason received PCS 39.36 for a TES of 36.5 at 2015 4CC and PCS 40.81 for a TES 39.94 at 2015 Skate America. And Kovtun PCS :frown:. Meanwhile Yuzu only received PCS 43.97 for a TES 51.11 at GPF 2015.

Like Morena said above it would only be fair for Yuzu to receive 46. And especially so for that perfect Sochi SP, nobody can say that he does not deserve that 101.45. He skated perfect SP two times in a row at Sochi :cheer:

I don't think Yuzuru's LP score will go over 200 still so early on the quad, only if he really, really increases his TES to the point that it doesn't require an Olympics season PCS, and also skates clean. Even then, I have a feeling that judges will hold back on PCS, because these types of "records' are usually set leading to the Olympics because of the crazy inflation. I'm also guessing that the judges don't want to Chan Yuzuru's way. And to be honest, I personally don't want his scores to go too mega high, I feel there still need to be a deflation from the Olympics on all disciplines. It would be nice if the scores of the top men become reatively close in order to better their competition. So then there won't be anyone with a cushion over another and the one who skates the best will most probably win. it will be more exciting and beneficial for all of them this way, I think.

I loved the Chopin montage video! But I wish the step sequence was the one at Worlds  Maybe the uploader choosed COC because of the camera angle.

I think his LP score is close to 200 or will just cross 200 if he skates perfectly. His LP BV is the highest, over 90 points. At GPF, he was almost perfect (other than the fall) and there was no crazy inflation in his score. He lost at least 5-6 points due to that fall (-2.1 in GOE, -1.98 in UR, loss of potential +GOE, perhaps 1 point and -1 in fall deduction, and likely indirect PCS deduction due to the fall).

Yes, like I said because of his TES but the question is the PCS. If he skates clean there's a high possibility of him crossing 200 if the PCS go high and probably will. But I still think that PCS is a complete mistery. At GPF his lower mark was at transitions and it still was at high 8's. ( 8.82). Components of the top men is just too high, judges are just throwing nines like there's no tomorrow  At least we barely see '10's now. I guess it's to hold their placements + the Olympics but I still don't think it's fair, so that's why the contribuition of the TES for the 200 is very possible, the question is how the PCS will fair out.

If his TES is 108-109, which is possible when he skates perfectly and without inflation, a PCS of 91-92 seems fair to me. When you perform a difficult program well, every component score will go up. If you have a TES of less than 100 and has a PCS of 93+, that PCS seems a bit high. Judges are only throwing 9's to three skaters right now, Yuzu, Denis and Javi. When Patrick comes back, he gets 9's too. So the 9's are only given to elite skaters, and it is kind of reputation based. But when Yuzu skates well, I always feel he deserves the 9's because he has the most difficult program out of all the skaters. It requires exceptional skills to be able to execute such a difficult program at high quality.

I don't know, I don't really 'get' PCS so there's not much that I can talk about it other than we will have to wait and see. It always seemed weird to me how PCS goes accordingly to TES, the PCS range according to reputation etc, or when you are a top skater and skate clean/difficult program suddenly your presentation/interpretation is 9 (when for me these are two things that should be judged separately) but that's something we need to live with isn't it, so thinking objectively I agree with you that PCS in the 90's for the top men will happen anyway if they throw it down.

I don`t agree with "Int & Pe should be judged separately than SS, Tr, Ch".
It`s much easier to "perform" and "be artistic" when your jumping pass is much easier, than of top skaters.
I think to get 9 in PCS, all your elements, including jumps and spins, should be high quality.
And about "reputation thing" - I remember at CoC when some people complained that Yuzu`s PCS (84) is too high for a program with 5 falls. Falls don`t mean that skater cannot skate, his basic skills remain the same.
So it`s not a reputation thing, but just a confirmation that he has abilities that compound a certain level PCS even on his bad day.
As for breaking 200 in LP - he was going to do it at GPF if not that fall on 3Lz. Still he got 194.08.
We will see those magic numbers very soon, I`m sure.

There is definitely no cushion for Yuzu. Denis received lots of 9s and two 10s at 2015 4CC --> PCS 91.4 for TES 100.45. While Yuzu only receive PCS 91.78 when his TES is higher 103.3 at GPF 2015.

But Patrick got PCS 90+ with TES less than 90 during non-Olympic season:
Worlds 2012 - TES 88.56, PCS 90.14
GPF 2012 - TES 79.75, PCS 90.64
COR 2012 - TES 84.21, PCS 92.70

If Yuzu needs to get TES 108-109 for a fair PCS of 91-92, then shouldn’t Patrick PCS above be in 85++? Or else if using Patrick score above, if he comes back and hit TES 100 he will get PCS 108 :confused2:

And to get TES 108-109, Yuzu needs to do 3 or 4 quads in the LP ? I don't want his body to take such as beating.

I don't get why people say he does in PCS and it makes me :scowl: when people buy into that BS. Look at last year's worlds, all top 3 men got 90-92. :sarcasm: His only cushion is his TES and the -1 for falls which is something that applies to every skater.

(CoC aside, since that was an anomaly rather than the standard)

No its perfectly do-able with his current layout, but he needs to be PERFECT. He got 103.xx in his GPF and that's with wonky spins and a fall on the Lutz<.

103.30 + 2.10 (for the -3 GOE on lutz) + Lets say what could have been +1-2 GOE for the fallen lutz = 106.xx + 1.00 (for the fall deduction) + 1.8 (if it was fully rotated and not reduced to 4.2) = 108-109 TES

Not to mention he didn't get all the levels for his spins and StSq... I'd say theoretically 110 TES is possible with his current layout (but definitely improbable)

Yes Yuzu TES reflected the correct score as his program is among the most difficult and he delivered it (and deduction accordingly for fall). This is the great advantage he has over the competitors and he knows it. That's why he keep wanting to upping his technical side.

Thanks ShiroKJ, I'm relieved to know that he could get 108-109 score with his current layout :agree:

it might be small detail but i thought they dont deduct 1pts for fall from your TES, they add TES and PCS and they deduct 1 pts from total :p

btw our ice prince said we will see quintuple jumps in the future and Shuzo Matsuoka's face says it all  here is the interview
