Jason Brown

Does anyone have a link to watch Jason's NBC LP? I'd like to hear these comments.... :slink:

I have not seen it, but i have been looking. Not sure why I have been looking, but maybe just to try to take a more objective look.

Really it was very weird. Like they were desperate to find some way to blame him for not medaling.

I think the worst was "you can see from his face that he knows he didn't do well".

Uncalled for.

I think it would have been fine if he had said "he knows it is not enough" because that has some truth to it. No matter how well he did, it was unlikely to be enough.

I can't remember if they left his excited "Kori I got fourth!" in the broadcast, given that is sorta conflicts with what they were saying. It just seemed so odd how when it was over they took such a hardline it was not good approach.

If that's the reaction they gave for Jason who was actually SIXTH coming into the FS, what were their comments for Yan Han or Sergei Voronov, who were both above him after the SP and actually...you know...skated poorly (sadly, as I like those two). I presume they didn't show their FS.

?!?

I too am torn between curiosity making me want to hear what they actually said - and wariness that hearing it may... annoy me. (possibly understatement) I suppose if the vid isn't even available, the decision is taken from me...

I don't think they bothered to show or even mention them.

I was a bit more annoyed that they thought Gracie and Ashley did well, when Jason better with more pressure!

It likely would, because it makes no sense. It is true that he did not do a Liza fist pump when he was done, but not sure when Jason has ever had a "I nailed that program" type reaction at the end, he seems more the type to want to thank the audience.

This is a case of failing to shape the story as intended.

Someone will upload it eventually, I'm sure.

I'm not dying to see it honestly. Talk is cheap.

Well RE: Gracie and Ashley. I guess it's the fact that Gracie and Ashley did finish 2nd and 3rd in the FS and got small medals and Jason did not. It's also the fact that Gracie and Ashley did 3-3/2A-3T/3-L-3 combos (the technical standard for the ladies) and Jason didn't do the the quad.

Does anyone remember whether these two commentated last year's Worlds? Maxim Kovtun also finished a distant 4th (he was 7th after the SP) and Jeremy Abbott finished 5th (after 8th in the SP). Jeremy only scored 3 points higher than Jason and that was with a nearly perfect program with a quad.

I just told my huaband - who, as I mentioned, happened to have watched Jason's LP - and his reaction was "Shabash!" - an Urdu word that could best be translated as "Bravo!", but often - as now - used sarcastically.

Actually, I don't want to "pile on" Gracie and Ashley, but they actually far more blew genuine medal chances - in the SPs. Jason didn't really have a medal chance - seeing how the top 3 skated - so blaming him for not medalling makes no sense at all. Just for the extra drama? I just don't... get it. Why?

A part of me almost hopes it does not, it does not need to be saved, it was trash and can be discarded.

If someone does upload it, and I fall for the temptation of watching it, I shall then follow it up with the antidote of watching the BESP video. A few times, maybe - to really get the "taste" out of my mind/mood.:)

I'm hoping for an even better antidote...two clean skates at WTT! :D Thrilled to see these programs one last time...yes, even Juke. :)

I recommend not watching. I really wish I hadn't seen it because it really, really upset me :(

I was hoping someone would upload it because I was thinking if making a video with the final 10 seconds of the Italian, Spanish and ESP broadcasts followed by the NBC one and dropping it on NBC Sport's Twitter - but then I thought "what would Jason do?" And obviously decided to not do that after all ;)

Maybe extra drama is enough? Maybe so people will be more excited when he does well? Maybe some parties don't want to admit he did better than expected?

The best theroy I can think of is that they wanted to explain why he did not medal without using math or the word quad - so focusing on the problems was all they could do. Maybe they were not willing to be happy with fourth.

Or maybe they are just bored and trolling us and wanted to kick back and laugh and drink at all comments we say. Hey Johnny and Tara, can I have a shot?

I think Jason knows better what is going on than we all think - and knows that not everyone will always love him. I actually think that would be a great idea. It would show that most nations love him, too bad his own is the least enthusiastic.

Showing everyone is balanced and fair. . . too bad if Johnny and Tara look like asshats - that is their fault.

You don't even need to use hard math to explain.

"Jason needs 183.41 to medal. Jason's personal best internationally 167.29, which means with even a perfect program, that will be a nearly tough task. However Jason has the opportunity to move up from his 6th place position after the short program."

Three sentences. Not even 30 seconds of commentary.

"He did well in the short, but I'm afraid he hasn't got the ammunition to get on the podium here whatever he does, but I'm sure it will be a beautiful and absorbing 4-and-a-half minutes we'll see now."

They didn't even use math.

They didn't show Han Yan, Kovtun, or Voronov. They did show Josh, Adam, Misha, and Nam as well as the top 4 finishers. They only showed Javi's short program, no one else's.

I can't remember what they said about Josh - I think they complimented his first 3A but beyond that don't recall. They were kind of half and half with Adam - said some nice things about how beautiful his skating was and then more or less said that at 25 it's too late for him. They were very complimentary to Misha and Nam and then did a lot of gushing about the top 3 interspersed with a small amount of analysis. You could tell they were trying to lead the audience to Javi's win.

As someone else noted, they liked Jason's new costume and Rohene's choreography, which they said was elegant and "very Jason." But that was it for positives. Tracy Wilson did a nice though brief interview with him afterwards, where he was able to say that he was excited to have placed fourth and to have kept 3 spots, and to discuss what he learned about skating last from Sochi. So that helped a little but did not counter the feeling I got that Tara and Johnny have really gone off Jason.

My husband, who watches FS extremely sporadically, knew that 4th place was a great result for Jason "especially without a quad", as he noted. If my husband could grasp it, I don't think it would be that difficult to explain, to be honest.

Though I know StitchMonkey is only trying to make sense... of the nonsensical. Which is difficult.:)

Yes, that's how it's done. They make it seem so easy, don't they? Love them.:)

Yes but they already said that, so Johnny and Tara had to say something different. :sarcasm::rolleye:

Even your line about needed vs PB (which makes too much damn sense) does have math, and maybe some person on high said "no math, no numbers!" for some reason. Maybe they think math turns people off.

Eurosports did it better. . . im still not sure what Tara and Johnny had as a goal at this point.
