Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Thank you for sharing!

I also love David and Yuzu.
I cannot forget David kissed yuzu’s hand:p. R&J2 costume he was wearing at that time was beautiful…

I remember that scene too! And I really like yuzu's costumes, except for the vertigo one and the 10/11 fp one

Haaa…Vertigo’s costume …I’ll second that.
10/11 fs was too feminine:biggrin:! But the performance at 4CC was good, which really indicated future Olympic champ...

About Ina Bauer, many skaters bend backwards in this move, but actually it is not required, they can do it in an upright position. The main focus on the Ina Bauer is NOT the back bend but the quality of edge a skater can achieve while keeping the back leg straight. With outside Ina Bauer, it is not too difficult to do on a slight outside curve, but you need extraordinary turnout in the hips and huge amount of strength to do Ina Bauer that draws almost a circle on the ice, especially without slowing down the speed.

This is why many people call Yuzuru's Ina Bauer the most impressive because he holds the Ina Bauer position the longest in the field. I have seen no one, be it man or lady, has such a long Ina Bauer as Yuzuru.

Most skaters only keep Ina Bauer position for like one or two second. Yuzuru can do it in 8-10 seconds. Here you can see his longest Ina Bauer he kept from back bend to upright position: https://youtu.be/Iy7ykIz96m4?t=1m59s

Thank you! Good explanation! The longevity is the key.

I like Ina Bauer in FS at 2014 WT.
He was 7 point behind Machida. But he landed every jump, so the crowds went crazy at the Ina Bauer after all jamps! The way he spared his arms were quite impressive at that Ina Bauer.

thanks meoima for explaining the Ina Bauer, i agree he has the best ina bauer for me!(maybe we should thank Shizuka for that?? haha ) i think its also because it has a purpose now, in the early years they just put it in the program as an element but for R&J2 and POTO its the perfect timing with the music and his expressiveness makes it better, not just about how he stretches his hip and foot etc, ( :hijacked: also i really like Elizabet Tursynbaeva's ina bauer as well, she has really long legs which i think helps )

I kept replaying the WTT performance apart from the ina bauer, his legs/crossovers movements from the starting to the ina bauer are synchronize to the music.

I love that part too! I don't know why I felt this way though, can't explain (and now that I noticed the 'bye bye' part thanks to you guys, I always felt very touched and gain chills during that part too! )

Don't take it wrong, but I wish people would stop saying that a costume is "(too) feminine" as if it's a bad thing. :disapp: It is NOT. But I guess it's the kind of debate that won't come to an agreement.
The costume problem was more on the design with the upper chest (the light pink one), which looked strange on him. I love Johnny and his works on costumes, but this one didn't seem to follow nor fit his body line properly, unlike the R&J 2.0 which was much better.

Though, I have to say, I felt more awkward at the Vertigo performance than the costume. I think even Yuzuru said he didn't like watching it.

Shizuka had the best Ina Bauer back at her time, and it is still a reference. And didn't little Yuzuru started doing it after 2006 Olympics?
I really hope Yuzuru will keep doing Ina Bauer and Biellmann for his future programs. This is simply so beautiful... (as long as he takes good care of his back, of course).

Yuzuru can keep Ina Bauer for the rest of his career as this move has to do more with "strong hip turnout" and the ability to keep balance, not about flexibility.

I agree with you that the 10/11 lp costume's problem is with its design, and I think the color isn't very well-picked too? (I don't like that much pink in a costume, the one for 12/13 lp is better in my opinion coz' it has some white elements to balance out? too much pink looks quite weird? --> I personally like paler shades of pinks) I guess it's personal taste?

I know about your feelings!
The design upper chest of 10\11fs didnot kind of suit him.😉

i dont know when he started doing it actually haha but i agree i hope he will keep adding those to his programs as long as they dont affect him (esp biellman), btw do you guys think if he can do illusion spin?? i think it would look better than some other skaters who tries it :slink:

That's right. I was concerned for his back too on it, because he still bends a lot when doing it, unlike other skaters who doesn't go that far.

Personal taste always plays a role for sure. I agree that the Notre Dame de Paris was much more balanced in colours. It's also one of my fav costumes of his, I find him absolutely beautiful in it and hell, I don't even like pink, lol!
Tho, my fav still remains the Etude in D Sharp minor.

It can be something he can do, I don't know if he has done it in trainings before. Not sure about how it would look like with Yuzuru, tho. I think he has the ability to make it look good, but I'd want to see it before saying he'll do it well.

It'd be nice to see him do some other spin positions~ But skaters usually stick to the spinning positions they are used to doing right? Do they usually change or add new ones into their routine from season to season?

At least Yuzu slightly changes his spins-you can compare them of different seasons and you'll see it.
My personal wish for spins for him-drop that bielman (it's feminine and also not good for a back) and that A-spin. There must be other options to gain level 4, come on now.
As for Yuzu costumes-I like all of them since 2011-2012 season, excepting that white one with roufles to japanese song.
My fav is to R&J2 and white one to Final time traveller.

You mean the one he wore for story ex and hana wa saku ?

I like almost all hanyu-san's costume too, i especially mesmerized by the costume for bolero, it's like a peacefull night sky filled with brilliant stars.
And many say they don't favoriting the time traveler ex costume because it emphasized his slouch and made him look like he had boobs. But i happen to be one that's very loving this costume when he was skating the program in it, altho i have to admit he looked slouched more in it too when he was not skating.
Then i compare his posture in the gala between the one in gpf 2014 and wc 2015, it looked like he slouched more in wc. Could it be because maybe after the surgery he gained some weight or simply could not do training so that his abdomen looked fuller and he tried to hide it by slouched more?

Personally, I love that Yuzuru includes the Biellmann spin in his programmes. It destabilises stereotypes of 'femininity' and 'masculinity'. For me, those are just conventions and shouldn't be accepted as bounded and rigid categories. If he does take them out, I hope because he realises the impact on his back and not because of people think that it doesnt conform to ideals of masculinity.

Welcome to Golden Skate and the Crazy Hanyu thread! Post often.
I too, love the Time Traveler costume, though it could do with a little less drapery in the back.

Thank you ^^~ Actually i have followed this thread since long loooong time ago, i read all the posts from the first to most recent ones.
Funny thing is the drapery on the back is the thing that made me love this costume, i don't know why. I even made a custom dress with the upper part exactly copying this costume. Lol

tbh, I really didn't like the time traveler costume at first, because I loved the one he wore at faoi more, so I seriously didn't like it at first, but as I looked at it more, I found that it's quite beautiful actually, and he's probably the only guy who can wear this and look beautiful:biggrin:
