Grand Prix Speculation 2015-2016

Cup of China Nov. 6-8

Does anyone know the place? I wish it were in Beijing, then I might have a slight chance to visit it... All other competitions next season are either too far away or have bad timing for me.

I believe it was stated a couple pages back that CoC would be in Beijing (not sure if that was confirmed 100%).

Thank you, I checked all previous pages and found it. Since it was published by a ISU judge I think it's true. Nice beginning, I still have a chance.. :)

Massive exam for me then too.

BTW, are you by any chance studying classics? Just got the idea from your username.

Not classics because I have no skills for foreign languages, let alone dead ones. I study literature, and I'm really into myth/classics in translation.

It's such a shame that the figure skating season is the same time as the university season, which makes travel impossible (not that I could afford it anyway without making some severe sacrifices.)

Oh I just realized I got Nagano correct for NHK, not so much for Skate America

what a North American problem, the GP event in the other country is closer to me than the one in my own country, there's to hoping next year Skate Canada will come back to Ontario

Think about a Russian problem with almost no figure skating to the east of the Urals and almost no inner flights between the towns. At least you may hope for the next year. I cannot.

Las Vegas? Do they even have an ice rink there? Would be interesting to see, though

By the way, congratulations on the baby!! (I hope I'm reading your comment correctly and not just spewing something weird out)

They are in the process of building one, but it won't be done until next year. I think there is a small one at Mandalay Bay, but definitely not big enough for competitions.

And thank you for the congrats. :)

I think it will be interesting to see where Patrick, Yuzuru, D. Ten, and Javier end up skating during the grand prix...The Patrick-Yuzuru battle on the grand prix in 2013-2014 was really exciting!

Ah, very cool! I was just asking because classics was one of my majors in undergrad (the other being biochemistry).

And same, traveling is so difficult and expensive! Oh well, one day it'll work for us after our schooling days are over... however long that may be.

Love seeing the classics/mythology students and majors among us, as spousal unit is professor emeritus of classics at local large university, and ancient religions is one of his specialties. Now, if my screen name were one of my cats (like some of us;)), I could be Porcia, Appius, Aurelia, Cibaria or Locutula. Too late now:laugh:

My school days are long gone, but I'm still not going to Milwaukee. Or Minneapolis. Or anywhere west of Pittsburgh. I guess I can still think about Worlds.

This season will be a rare opportunity for Patrick to compete at COC and NHK as a non seeded if SC would let him off. He's never competed at COC because it is back to back with SC and so far away, and NHK because there is usually a 1-3 seeded Man from Japan. NHK is normally right after COC but is moved to be the last event this year so he could do both.

I tend to believe he is still somewhat privileged in the selection of events and quite welcomed in most, especially COC with little conflict of interest.

I do wonder - any thoughts on what skaters are likely to be host picks in the different disciplines/GP events?

Yuzuru will probably get NHK, and Jason will probably get SA since it's close to his training rink and he would bring in more $, and I feel like Patrick has a chance of getting Skate Canada

If I remember correctly, Patrick didn't want COC or NHK because he doesn't travel well so prefers competitions closer to home.

I wonder...If Mao comes back, could she be a host pick for NHK? or would Satoko/Riko/Kanako already get NHK. There can only be 3 skaters from one country at any particular grand prix event, right?

Yes. But I'd imagine that NHK would definitely want Mao.

Not a doubt in my mind that both host federations - Canada (Chan) and Japan/NHK (Mao) - would want them to compete in their respective "home" events. Ticket sales are flailing during non-Olympic years as it is. Need every marquee they can get.
