Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Honestly I believe that's Javi's influence. He is just kind and goofy.
Could you imagine Yuzu being coached by TAT and being goofy along with Kovtun? Me neither.

Yea, yuzu certainly became more goofy since he started goofing around with javi! He's really quite comfortable with javi, just look at his appearance in small medal ceremony with dai chan in nice, and compare it with his appearances with javi in 2014&2015 world's small medal ceremony ! (I guess partly it's because nice was his world debut, but oh well, the difference is quite obvious lol )

The contrast really shows how being with Vavi really has yuzu feel conformable.
True, in nice small medal ceremony 2012, ..oh, poor yuzu.
On the contrary, in small medal ceremonies 2014 and 2015, he seemed happy and cheerful and enjoyed from the bottom his heart:dance:.
As to their characters in their practices, Vavi is calm and relaxed, yuzu is kind of hyper. They make a wonderful combination together.

Maybe because in Nice he was amongst his seniors, particularly Dai? Plus, he was very young then. I guess with age and experience, and more interaction with other skaters through the years, he is able to be more relaxed at these ceremonies.

Plus I think his improving English skills also put him at ease a lot more in recent years...he understands a joke right away and can laugh when everyone else does too. His listening skills is far better than speaking. I believe we would all feel out of place surrounded by a language we are not so familiar with.

Yup, that's why I said the best we can hope for Yuzuru is to be healthy all in all. Because he keeps improving his layout and difficulty, he has different strategy to most skaters. In a way, he's like Mao, if you ask me, I think Yuzuru could have won more titles and sooner than last season if he only went for two quad toe in the LP. Had he only did 4T and 4T3T, he might have won GPF 2012 already. Or had he done less difficult steps before 3lz3T, we might have much better memories of Chopin SP. But he chose it the hard way. He wants to win, but he doesn't want to win with less difficulty.

We can say he never wants it safe, and even when he chose the leser layout from the original one, it's still the most difficult of the field (same Jump BV as Javi).

Actually, also as a fan of Patrick, I did wish that Patrick could have won that gold and retired after Sochi, so Patrick could be content as he was still the most all rounded skaters by that time. But who could have told both top men faltered? I have thought many times, had Yuzuru only got silver at Sochi, there might be less burdens on his shoulders in this quad.

The gold only put more pressure on Yuzuru, people (in Japan and in the skating world generally) expect him to be perfect even when his body is not ready. Right, because he's the champion. Obviously his fans don't want to see him suffer from that amount of pressure. But what has been done is done, Yuzuru has chosen the hard way, as a fan I can do nothing but wish him all the best luck.

The pressure and attention will always be with him from now on, and it will only increase as the next Olympic becomes near (not to mention he might not be favored in Korea). But I have faith in Yuzuru that, no matter what his tech content will be in the next 3 years, he will always skate with his heart. You can see this season he has never ever given up any performance at all, be it CoC or WC , WTT or even just gala. That's why many people love him, not because of his titles in the past and many titles in the years to come.

I wouldn't call the steps before his 3Lz+3T very difficult, he's really simplified it over the season: starting from (what I can see, correct if wrong) a mohawk -> walley -> choctaw at ice shows which is incredibly difficult, to just the mohawk -> choctaw at COC/NHK, and then into just two mohawks from the GPF to the end of the season. I mean, it's certainly more difficult than doing the typical long backwards glide into the lutz, but I think it's more that he's only doing a few crossovers into his lutz after coming almost to a complete stop, so if he's not focused the lack of enough speed throws him off easily. But yes, I generally agree, he does aim to challenge his own standards of difficulty, he certainly would rather have lost last season with his 4S than take it out for a 4T+3T.

I'm also a fan of Chan, but I'm glad Hanyu's gotten this OGM, as he said when he was younger the first gold medal would only be the beginning for him. I think this year competing as the Olympic champion and having such a terrible, horrid season, has really helped him to mature and put things and priorities into perspective. This year taught valuable lessons in dealing with pressure but also in teaching him just how vulnerable and precious his health is, and I think his resolve and craving to have clean performances is stronger than ever. And a healthy Hanyu who starts performing cleanly consistently...well I imagine anyone would be hard pressed to beat that.

I think Oda said it too that the problem with the combination is the lack of speed with the crossovers. It's not easy but I'm glad he keeps looking for ways to improve, refusing to go for the easy way even when he's the one to beat. And I agree with the thing about the OGM, he came to this season with a world of pressure on his shoulders, but is one of the characteristics of the champions, and he is one. This has been a season of learning for him (unfortunately he's been learning the hard way), and it will certainly help him in the seasons to come :yes:

He did not put on his necklaces, which I think made his neck look more beautiful. What’s more, his pearl white skin and eyes were shining under spotlight!

That costume is really beautiful, I love the sleeves and how it flows nicely when he skated.

If I remembered correctly he was given a cloth or was it a costume during the sendai victory parade ceremony. And the presenter said hopefully one day he be able to wear that or costume to that....I would love to see Yuzu in samurai inspired costume.
