Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

It also comes down to the day, who is most prepared physically and mentally for the major competitions. Hanyu is certainly one of the strongest competitors but he still has a ways to go, sometimes he does make silly mistakes like his 3Lz+3T< fall at WTT (when he hadn't missed it once during practice) or his 3F hand/fall at Sochi. I certainly wish for him more titles, but what I wish for most (as well as he does too) are clean performances to win those titles, especially for the next Olympics.

Yup, that's why I said the best we can hope for Yuzuru is to be healthy all in all. Because he keeps improving his layout and difficulty, he has different strategy to most skaters. In a way, he's like Mao, if you ask me, I think Yuzuru could have won more titles and sooner than last season if he only went for two quad toe in the LP. Had he only did 4T and 4T3T, he might have won GPF 2012 already. Or had he done less difficult steps before 3lz3T, we might have much better memories of Chopin SP. But he chose it the hard way. He wants to win, but he doesn't want to win with less difficulty.

We can say he never wants it safe, and even when he chose the leser layout from the original one, it's still the most difficult of the field (same Jump BV as Javi).

Actually, also as a fan of Patrick, I did wish that Patrick could have won that gold and retired after Sochi, so Patrick could be content as he was still the most all rounded skaters by that time. But who could have told both top men faltered? I have thought many times, had Yuzuru only got silver at Sochi, there might be less burdens on his shoulders in this quad.

The gold only put more pressure on Yuzuru, people (in Japan and in the skating world generally) expect him to be perfect even when his body is not ready. Right, because he's the champion. Obviously his fans don't want to see him suffer from that amount of pressure. But what has been done is done, Yuzuru has chosen the hard way, as a fan I can do nothing but wish him all the best luck.

The pressure and attention will always be with him from now on, and it will only increase as the next Olympic becomes near (not to mention he might not be favored in Korea). But I have faith in Yuzuru that, no matter what his tech content will be in the next 3 years, he will always skate with his heart. You can see this season he has never ever given up any performance at all, be it CoC or WC , WTT or even just gala. That's why many people love him, not because of his titles in the past and many titles in the years to come.

Are you talking about the flutz? Because if it is then flutzing gives the skater a -30% on the BV of the Lutz as far as I know. Same happens with the lip and flip.

3Lz (with outside edge) = 5.5 Base value
3Lz with an inside edge (Flutz) = A 30% downgrade on the base value but is still considered a Lutz on the protcool.

The same applies to the Flip/Lip

Flip takes off on an inside edge while a lutz takes off on an outside edge. If you go to do a lutz on the outside edge but turn over at the last second onto the inside edge than it is called a flutz. So yes it is still considered a lutz. A flawed lutz that comes fully equipped with penalties for the scoresheet :hopelessness:

Flips can have the same wrong edge scenario happen but instead are called lips.

I really really like the term flitz. In fact...it should have its own BV and we could erase flutz/lip from our vocabulary and just call it a flitz and move on with life

This isn't really working for me because it reminds me too much of "Flitzer", which is the German equivalent of "streaker" and now I have the picture of naked people sliding over the ice in my head and, ehm....... ok and now I'm trying to figure out how you would determine a BV for that oh boy

Regarding skaters relationship/skater family, etc, I think it is rather normal to have a civil but distant relationship with your training mates/competitors. Many skaters I did not know that they train together until it was specifically mentioned; they don't seem overly familiar/friendly with one another. So that is the norm. Maybe that is why the media is so completely pleasantly surprised to see the relationship between Hanyu-san and Javier; oh they actually like and encourage each other's company, and oh! they even goof around together!!

Yuzuru has the skills and the motivation to improve. He always tries his best in competitions. He doesn't play it safe. I think the only thing that might prevent his success is his health. I hope he stays relatively healthy in the future.

I think gold is better, because having that, he can continue to improve and do his own things (technical progress he wanted to achieve), because he already got the highest high.
As burden of expectations-it's twice hard but twice rewarding too, while succsess.

Honestly I believe that's Javi's influence. He is just kind and goofy.
Could you imagine Yuzu being coached by TAT and being goofy along with Kovtun? Me neither.

Although they do seem to get along fine and Yuzu is also very easy going and fun with all the skaters (a goofball as Jason said), I can't see that (sorry Maxim)

There is a diference between believe in someone and put him in a pedestal, to cheer for Yuzuru is ok, is great, is the reason why I´m here for with everybody else. But don´t call him invinseble, because nobody is.
