Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Since we never got to see the "real" version of his POTO, I don't mind him staying with Lynn for another season. I do hope that he stays with JB for the SP though, since the last two that he did were masterpieces.

As for shows, training, quads, etc, well...Yuzu is Yuzu. What can we do but stand on the slideline and cross our fingers hoping that he doesn't hurt himself again. He only has 3 more seasons......win or lose, he should be able to do what he wants without any regrets.

Also, thank you everyone for posting updates/links/media!

Actually, (don't kill me for this comment ok?) I have a little feeling that his sp MIGHT be choreographed by someone else..... (LET'S HOPE I'M WRONG AND IT DOESN'T HAPPEN!) --> Just a hunch....

DON'T. :drama: (I thought it was already confirmed that it will be by Buttle though. Am I wrong?)

Another one. In half of the photos the site says that he's a teenage/mid 20's girl or a child and I just

It's confirmed already? Did I miss something? If I did miss it, then it's a good news for me

edit: I didn't really notice the gender sign beside the age until just now lols!

It's just speculation, no confirmation for now. But I guess we'll know pretty soon (or when DOI happens at the latest).

Lol yes for the gender stuff. In a lot of pics I'm not surprised they got it wrong since this website isn't fully functional and clearly not something that will work in a long term. But it's trully fun!

He did skate a clean 4T/4S LP at WC 2014.

I can’t read his mind. But I feel his motivation to compete is not to win (of course he wants to win), but to be able to challenge himself and improve. If he cannot challenge himself anymore, he will retire. He plans to retire after 2018 Olympics (or after 2018 world championship). So, I think he would want to perform the most difficult programs he can do by then. I assume he plans to gradually upgrade his program difficulty each season and he wants to be comfortable with the easier layout (i.e. he can skate the easier layout cleanly or close to clean, perhaps more than once) before he attempts a more difficult layout. If it requires him to upgrade difficulty at the Olympic season in order to reach his goal, I think he would do it too, especially since he lost a lot of training time this season (he didn’t upgrade his program at all this season). Of course, I don’t know this for sure and it’s just me speculating.
I didn't take it literally just once, one or two clean LPs in three seasons isn't the greatest, and even then his jump quality was off. It's a trade off between difficulty, safety, and relatively clean performances. 3 quads/2 3A is monstrous content no matter who we're talking about, just sustaining that level with any consistency is challenging in itself, and he might push himself more in transitions/choreography. But yeah we're both speculating about someone who we don't know, so let's just agree to disagree. :)

40 4S and 40 4T per session  I really hope he can survive this kind of training until the Olympics without a torn labrum or a torn ACL, sometimes all it takes is one bad landing, but it probably helps that his body is quite light.

I wouldn't mind if David Wilson choreographs his short, his SPs tend to be better on the hit-miss ratio than his LPs, and I think there's more room to explore styles. If he can for Hanyu what he did with Takahashi's In the Garden of Souls, or Yuna Kim's Danse Macabre, that would be awesome. I realize in both of their performances they're wearing black, I think black is very flattering, but Hanyu seems fond of his frou frou, bling bling, and color

Well, I don't think Nam has time to count all of the jumps Yuzuru have done each session ha ha. After all Nam has his own training to do. I guess Yuzuru does a lot quads in his training and Nam speculated a certain number. :) or maybe that's the number Yuzuru did before this season, and it led to his injuries. Let's hope that he is wiser by now.

I remember Yagudin once did 60-70 quads per day but it was during Olympic season.
Anyone remember that Yuzuru only does about 10-15 quads at max in run through session in almost every competition. My friend was there at GPF practice and she said he didn't do that many. Definitely not 40-80 quads.

Yeah I think David Wilson is not a bad SP choreogapher at all, he can do some very good SP, so no worry. I guess what we're worrying the most is the costumes lol. Yuzuru please don't kill us with any boobskirt. :hopelessness:

Overtrain is even worse than undertrain for an athlete, I hope his body will hold on until 2018. A lot of times Yuzuru lands the quads at the warm ups and then proceeds to botch it at the performance. Or at the training session he lands everything without the music but with the music something is off. I hope he's doing enough full run throughs to improve consistency and not exagerating at the solo jumps, but it he feels that his training style is perfect for him then great. He has a great team behind him so hopefully there's not much to worry about.

Oowww I loved that boobskirt! I kind of miss it actually

:agree:

Not gonna lie, one of the advantages of having 2 brand new programs is having 2 brand new costumes, and I hope they'll be whacky Yuzuru/Weirish ones, since I love this style.:cool:

ETA: People are proposing music pieces for Anna Pogorilaya and someone mentioned Doctor Who, and I remembered this . It's very intense piece of music, and Yuzuru seems to do "intense" reallyw well so I thought of him. As SP it'd be completely different from anything he's done, and if combined with some other cuts, it could be an awesome LP...

I also want to see Johnny designing for him again. Not necessarily for next season, but sometimes in the future. Since he designed twice for him, Yuzuru must like his style. And as long as he likes his costume, that's all that matters.

I do like this kind of music, but the one you linked, I could see this as part for a LP only. You know, the intensity reminds me a bit of R&J 1.0, so it can work for Yuzuru. There are music of this intensity that can work for a SP, but it would have to be another one. Two Steps from Hell and Zack Hemsey have done great pieces that can work in both SP and LP.

I don't . It has been pointed out that Johnny recycle his costumes that were already awful, and they are poorly tasted IMHO, like that huge cross in his Notre Dame costume.

I was really happy with his costumes this season. Ballade was so elegant, and his POTO costume was actually great too.

^^ I know some of Two Steps from Hell, it'd fit Yuzuru's style like a glove. There's so much different music out there, so many soundtracks, computer game scores and bombastic trailer music pieces that would be awesome for skating that I wish the choreographers would familiarize themselves with more...

Some of Johnny's costumes could have seemed surprising, but others were described as beautiful. My fav of his was his legendary Swan SP costume. Well, Yuzuru had had his own NdP costume based on Johnny's (but then again, Yuzu said that he found Johnny beautiful in his Ave Maria program). If Yuzu likes this style, that's good enough for me. ;)
As we all know, it's just a matter of personal taste. :)

I also liked both his costumes this season, though I had a bit of a hard time to understand the patern for his second POTO costume. Nor why the colors kept on changing for the Chopin SP, lol! Ah well, he looked beautiful anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Exactly. To find the right theme to skate on it is tricky, but no doubt there are people working on it. I don't know if Yuzuru will skate to one of those one day, but it has been done before (Elena Radionova has done it for a SP) and it will be done again.

Actually the boobskirt thing has grown on me recently I think I don’t dislike the one and I could see the beauty of it now, but to be honest I was like :slink::no: at first sight.
I would love to see him wearing the POTO and White legend style costumes especially that WL one is  He looks like the Swan Prince in it really.
Again the Johnny style costume does really work/suit for Johnny himself of course but Yuzuru?

I have very mixed feelings about the boobskirt. But one thing though, we all have to agree that the R+J 2.0 costume is anything but boring.

I also loved the WL one, but I also adored the Etude SP one. I'd love to see something like that again. Maybe with a fire theme?

As for J's style, they both have muscles, but are slender with a bit more curves than other male skaters. That's partly why I think this style works with Yuzuru, but I can't imagine it working for Javi or Joshua, for example.

Haha, yes! I did think the costume was a bit strange at first ("err... Well, at least, it IS original lol") but it quickly grew on me as I watched R&J2.0 and see how he created something beautiful as a whole.
But yes, no matter if we like it or not, this costume is clearly not boring and plain, lol!

Forgive me if this has been shared before, but was watching a DVR recording of NBC's coverage of WC and noticed something I missed during the livestream (not sure if shown) and the originally aired NBC broadcast. Prior to a commercial break before his FS, a clip was shown where Yuzuru takes off his jacket, Kikuchi-san steps forward offering to take it but Yuzu slightly shakes his head then hands his jacket to Brian instead. I was extremely moved by this gesture, as was Brian, judging by his smile. IMO this seemed like Yuzuru's way of quietly asserting just who his coach is and giving him his deserved respect. Although, I adore Yuzuru's skating, these little moments where he shows his genuine nature never fails to impress. Such a good boy!

On topic, LOVE most of Yuzu's costumes...
