That would be a first! I've never tasted a bitter ice wine, ha!
Yes, but this is Patrick's so we know it will be made with sour grapes. . .

I think Hanyu has improved a lot actually and he should be credited with higher PCS scores. Unfortunately, like Chan, he is being credited with insanely high scores when he messes up. There's no way his SP at Worlds should have been placed ahead of Fernandez's, and I can't believe (or rather, can believe) people were trying to justify a 95 score with a UR fall.
funny you say this now cuz after Hanyu finished skating this is what you said

It's interesting how dfifferent news writers can convey one impression or another, using the same material. Here Patrick comes off as a cool dude who embraces life and can't wait to embrace more of it.

As for the supposed disrespect of other skaters, this article presents a softer interpretation:
Which is why I've been asking if the whole conference call will be or has been released. Nick Zaccardi wrote the more negative article here. He is the same guy who kind of railroaded Ashley right before GPF. People were getting all worked up on both sides over her comments when in fact it was a very light and upbeat conversation that was taken out of context.
I hope Max Kovtun beats him with a terrible program and no transitions "no offence".

:I have to wonder if reporters sometimes sensationalize our sport a bit because they may suspect its the only way anyone will read about it![]()
How many pages would a positive article have racked up here at GS?
According to MM's post in J/T's thread I may have just been responsible for getting Nick Z. a cool $1.00 bill by merely mentioning his name:
I have to wonder if reporters sometimes sensationalize our sport a bit because they may suspect its the only way anyone will read about it...
A lot. Jason Brown and Yuzuru Hanyu have very active very positive fan threads. A lot of us on here like the warmth between the current men's skaters, so I think a positive comeback article would have plenty of traffic.

It's worth pointing out, I think, that to my knowledge we never saw an actual transcript/translation of Trankov's latest criticism - that didn't stop people from giving their opinions on his reported opinions. (shrug)
Personally I prefer to get as complete and exact quotes as possible, before forming an opinion.
Yeah, and I have always thought Javi´s "Figaro" IS classical music...![]()

If it was his first time saying things like this then I'd certainly give him the benefit of the doubt...but can the multiple times he's made condescending or rude comments over the years be just journalists drumming up the drama?
Journalists do know that he's good for some iffy comments and will publish what he says so I guess he doesn't care that people view him as arrogant and rude or he wouldn't keep giving them those kinds of comments.
In taking a quick look at a few Japanese blogs and forums, it seems Pchiddy's remarks are taken in a laid-back way though; most are looking forward to his return.
The articles (multiple) all contain actual Chan quotes -not just 'he said stuff'. For example, when a Jason Brown article comes out with Jason quotes, I usually believe what Jason says too. The difference is, Jason is uniformly polite in all his interviews...you couldn't put a dark twist on it even if you tried hard. The same with Yuzu, Denis and others...when reading their interviews I don't wonder if they are being misrepresented, because they are clear in their statements, not to mention positive most of the time. It's not about giving "the benefit of the doubt", it's about fairness and treating everyone equally. What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If you are perectly happy to accept vague "he said stuff" reports in one case - then you should be equally so in ALL cases. And if you are not accepting them in one case - then you should be equally reluctant to accept them in ALL cases. No selective treatment á la "oh, we know what he's like, so who cares what he actually said?"

-Should I treat Chan differently?
Well, at least Patrick has driven Johnny and Tara off the top of the page.

. . . I almost want to take that as a challenge.
