LOL, I still want to try it for real though. Canadians are awesome with ice wine. However, I've only tried BC-based ice wines....don't know much about ones from Ontario.

I think Hanyu has improved a lot actually and he should be credited with higher PCS scores. Unfortunately, like Chan, he is being credited with insanely high scores when he messes up. There's no way his SP at Worlds should have been placed ahead of Fernandez's, and I can't believe (or rather, can believe) people were trying to justify a 95 score with a UR fall.

Sorry, I was getting my wires crossed. I would have had Hanyu slightly ahead of Fernandez though not above 95 with his Worlds SP. However, the UR fall I was referring to was his WTT SP getting 96 points which was absolutely ridiculous. I know WTT is a "fun" event, but it still contributes to personal bests and seasons best scores.

Even when Chan has had a major SP error like a fall, he never clears 95 points. 96 points is what a top tier skater is lucky to get when they go absolutely clean (a second tier skater is lucky to clear 92 with a perfect skate, even ones with 2 quads). It's silly that a program with a UR fall (even at WTT) can score higher that Fernandez's clean Worlds SP, and one of the highest SP scores of the entire season. I don't care if it's Hanyu, Chan, Takahashi, whoever... that score is ridiculous with an error like that. Same thing with Hanyu's SP at World's last year with the UR fall on the quad, and still placing higher than a clean Verner with 91 points. :disapp:

AFAIK, Skate Canada (unlike USFS) has not made a habit of releasing audio of media calls. (And even USFS has not released audio of every call.)

So I am not optimistic that audio of Patrick's call will be released.

Agree 100% with you and with MM that the tone of the actual audio might or might not be accurately reflected in a print article.

A lot. Jason Brown and Yuzuru Hanyu have very active very positive fan threads. A lot of us on here like the warmth between the current men's skaters, so I think a positive comeback article would have plenty of traffic.

Just my two cents and gut reaction, but I doubt that reporters who cover lots of sports (such as Zaccardi and Hersh) take a different approach to figure skating.

It's worth pointing out, I think, that to my knowledge we never saw an actual transcript/translation of Trankov's latest criticism - that didn't stop people from giving their opinions on his reported opinions. (shrug)

Personally I prefer to get as complete and exact quotes as possible, before forming an opinion.

If it was his first time saying things like this then I'd certainly give him the benefit of the doubt...but can the multiple times he's made condescending or rude comments over the years be just journalists drumming up the drama?
Journalists do know that he's good for some iffy comments and will publish what he says so I guess he doesn't care that people view him as arrogant and rude or he wouldn't keep giving them those kinds of comments.

The "he said stuff" was a reference to Trankov. And no, you shouldn't treat Chan differently - or Trankov either for that matter - nor should any of us. That was my point.
