We could never see the detail of this picture as she moves. I think it's safe to wager there aren't 3 contributors to this forum who could force their bodies into that position, let alone remain standing, let alone on ice. It is remarkable as a feat of balance, and balance takes lots of strength which is a very good sign.

But even more amazing to me is the position of legs and arms, and body. First, notice both arms form a line. Then the left forearm is bent downward, in parallel to the to the lower right leg. The torso is also in that parallel set, the torso is parallel to both the lower left forearm and the lower right leg. And then the left leg is elevated so that it is parallel to the right arm and upper left arm. Thus she has used her body to construct two sets of parallels. And not just any parallels--the two sets of parallel lines (body parts) are at right angles. This can't possibly be accidental, this is a most subtle and powerful example of the genius that is Yulia Lipnitskaya. All done at 30 mph across sheer ice. Of course she gets zero credit in her scores for this incredible feat. And it's not an isolated example. There are dozens of these beautiful symmetries in every program. To see them, we have to create a set of stills taken at about 5 frames per second. If the software that I use for freeze-framing from videos comes up again for free, I will post it here for use by anyone who is fascinated by the hidden Yulia.

I know this is off topic but I have heard Patrick Chan's and Yuzuru's best speed is about 7m/s (calculated at Skate Canada 2013)

I love Yulia but I don't believe she moves on ice at 30mph because 30mph means 13m/s. Which is impossible for well... All skaters.

I'm not fooling you. It's pure physics.

I have found the name of the one who calculated skaters' speed on ice, he is Craig Buntin, in an interview he talked about the speed of males skaters as they go into their quads. The example was Skate Canada 2013.

In 2013 Patrick Chan and Yuzuru Hanyu's speed in competition was around 25 km/h = 7m/s

Unless you think Yulia is twice faster than the best skaters in the men field which is impossible because men skaters are the fastest.

Yes but Yulia is not speed skater and the blades that speed skaters use are different kind.

Exactly, and she isn't skating in a crouched position.
 
I'm not so sure that SJID was being literal in saying "30 mph" any more than if I were to say Yulia gave out a TON of hugs on her way back home. More or less a statement to make a dramatic effect.

By most live accounts I've read she is among the fastest of the ladies. They also say her jumps are bigger in person. So no matter what we clock her speed at she is definitely moving very fast. :)
 
^ of course she is very fast, much more than many Russians ladies. It's just the number is like for speed skaters record so it doesn't look real.

I'm only dramatic when it comes to costumes and injuries.
 
I think, in this thread Julia Vyacheslavovna Lipnitskaya is the fastest skater in the world, end of story. :p

That's exactly right, Sam. Watching videos taken from rink level, she moves so fast it can be dizzying to watch. So I arbitrarily chose a number less than 100 mph, wrote it, and went on. There was no effort to be accurate. I need to use the emoticons? Sorry Meoima. As a professor once said to my class after making a mistake, "I may be wrong, but my point remains."
