Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

The presenters commented that his come-back strength was showing even back then. They were impressed by the 3A-3T-2T that he did to make up for doubling a jump earlier. The man said that he had the opportunity to have a long interview with Yuzu that year and was really disappointed that due to his low placement, he wasn't able to use it-apparently there was a lot of interesting stuff. He laughed and said, 'that's just my personal memory from that time.'

This was the program I had wanted to see and looked for the video for years, as the audience that day only could see this as no broadcast at the time. I just hoped any private video existed. This was really a legendary video

Fuji TV and TV Asahi, no hesitation to show us anything related to FS that you have !!!
(Fuji TV should have a video of Satoko 2-3 years before like this video of Yuzuru.)

I am so happy today as I could see this program and also the WTT Gala full version nearly 3 hours broadcasted on TV :yay:

By the way, the interview the anouncer mentioned was the one at the time of 2008 Japanese Junior Nationals.

Thank you for the links! And like you, I also would like to see Satoko's previous Nationals performance as a relative unknown. She really has had a meteoric rise last season: national champion of Japan and Worlds silver medalist.

While at the dailymotion site, I found this video uploaded by the same person on Yuzuru and Brian Orser, the coach who vowed not to get emotionally involved with his students and ends up still caring:

Thank you for the link. Finally the full WTT quad battle from 10:00min....he was awesome and so happy to land that 4Lo+3A. At the end he was looking back at the audience...shouting "arigato" again I would think. So glad he was happy at the end of such a challenging season

Thank you for sharing! He is happy like a child because he succeeded the jumps ! :)

This blog talks about how many times the key word “Hanyu Yuzuru” is searched on google in Japan. (Yuzu received the award for “the most searched name of the year” before.)

First, it shows the data on other celebrities such as a pop group star and an actress. They are searched roughly 500000 times/month.

Hanyu Yuzuru 4 million times in Feb. 2014

During the GPF, the nationals, and the worlds, which last only a couple of days per time, he is searched over 1250000 times each in the respective months!

Even during the off-season, when he hardly appears on TV, there are constantly 300000~700000 searches for him.

I decided to put together a blog post on some of Yuzu's early years. I have collected some cute images of young Yuzu, and hope you enjoy this post. https://sportymags.wordpress.com/2015/05/09/yuzuru-hanyu-the-early-years/

About the picture of Yuzu wearing the blue cover and cap, I think it's a photo from an elementary school sports day where they're playing kibasen (calvary battle). In the game teams split up into groups where one person wearing a cap or headband is carried around almost piggy back style. That person is supposed to try and steal the cap/headband of those on the opposing team. It probably makes more sense to watch it in action.

Videos
here is the video of " best quad toeloop jumps " involving 6 skaters (dont know how accurate it is though, i am sure there are others as well like Javier) , watching the video i think Yuzuru's 4T is the best, shortest entry, great air position, soft landing (esp this year he is like feather (when he landed haha)) and great flow , there is also link to a poll for us

My favourite one in the video is Yuzu's 4T at 2014 gpf sp. The most beautiful 4T I've ever seen is Yuzu's at 15 wtt sp

It's off topic. This year’s Olympic Concert official video was newly released, which is held by mainly JOC to promote Olympic annually in June in resent years. Yuzu image is inserted.

Olympic Concert 2014 was after SOCHI. most medaslist appeasred, but he did not. He got his message across on video. Yuzu and figure skate parts video is here.

In 2013 Olympic concert, he came on stage as one of the promising athletes towards Sochi (yuzu: around 1:20, 6:10, others..).

Worlds 2015 press conference videos havent been shared yet (its really hard to keep up :hopelessness:)
SP Part1 Part2
FP

2009 National Championships FS. Due to him not doing well in the SP, his FS was not broadcast that year; but due to popular demand, a single camera version was shown recently.
In typical Yuzu style, he made a mistake at the beginning, but came back strong in the second half. Rising from 13th to 6th place over-all.

Photos & Others
Nam just posted a new pic... see who's back where he belongs!

I think there's plenty of happy boy left

As for looking different, I think it's just one of his many expressions plus the angle of his face. Remember this?? Maybe he is very satisfied with how the first picture turned out with Oda-san and decided to do it again!

Didn't he say he was "traumatized" by that picture because he didn't want to take it or something like that? (ETA: found it)

I've read the thing that traumatized him was to pose with two hand peace sign, not the angle the photo taken. Before the photo with Oda-san was taken, Hanyu-san was being teased because he always did the peace sign, that's why he was asked to pose with two hands. Hanyu-san said it was too embarassing and he won't do it again.

I love that cute pic from dear Jon-san on twitter: Falling and standing back up
It makes me think of the Japanese proverb: "Fall seven times, stand up eight." Perfect.

Such an adorable video. He has/had really nice coaches. I think that's because Yuzuru is such a good student that no one can stop loving him growing and improving

Sorry, just off topic, but I remembered that it was Satoko in 2011 Nationals. She was 15th in SP (47.06), but 3rd in FP (116.79, best TS of 65.59) done almost perfect, and finally 6th. But we have not seen her free program!!! Fans were furious at that time. Can you believe that !? The program of the 3rd skater !!! Com'on, Fuji TV !

Same program, but less score:

I was one of such lucky audience at Osaka Nats in 2009. :)

At that Nationals, all audience could see which skaters Fuji TV was planning on-air and which other skaters not, because when TV cameras doing record and Takeshi Honda doing commentary, big screen at the arena showed it. I remember Fuji TV did record Yuruzu in SP but since he didn't do well and palced 13th which means he had to skate in the second group for free, I saw no camera crue standby and no one at play-by-play commentary table. I was so sure Yuzuru will come back strong in the free, so I told my husband; 'oh they are gonna regret hell a lot if not recording this kid's free... :sarcasm:'

I didn't know there was a single camera version exists! Thanks a lot for the link! :)

I got tears in my eyes watching this. Perfect for today! (well he'll remain Papa Orser to me no matter what, but Yuzu did say that he's like a mom too, so it fits, lol!)

No wonder the fans were angry! I hope no such incident happened again on the channel.
I really like Satoko, she's so adorable and talented! She has the potential to become one of the biggest! Well, she already is, actually, but she still has room for much more improvement and becoming flawless. I'm hoping to see her jumps becoming stronger for the next season.
Well, I hope to see Team Japan doing great next season. They have the potential for! :agree:

Yes, Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers in this thread and forum and of course Mama Hanyu who has raised a son who is a source of pride and joy to so many!

Yes to this too.^^ Happy Mother Day to Yumi! Such a strong and beautiful woman!
:cheer: I have seen pics of her before but did not realize just how much her and Yuzuru look alike. It's great!

some may already know but there is youtube channel named Patrick Commentates Skating (not patrick chan :D ), he uploaded his commentary video of yuzuru's r&j 1.0 and he is all in for the drama haha and " why butt spin? why butt spin for 8 revolutions? "

I watched it and was really surprised by his comments. I've only watched a few of his videos and it has given me the impression that he is very straightforward with his critics and I thought he would kind of be that way with Yuzuru. But he sounded so pleased with the drama, the jumps and was kind of fanboying over how cute 17 y/o Yuzuru was. Guess there is not much to criticize about that routine!
