Yulia Lipnitskaya

Her hats are soooo cool. What a pity she couldn't wear the black hat during competition. Maybe in gala?

I don't know much about ballet but something about this girl's extensions and posing reminds me of someone ;)

There are many connections worth looking at, I'm glad you posted this. The body bends in just a limited number of ways, so many similarities are built in. However, ice skaters have one huge advantage. They can float. Floating provides continuity and smoothness that is not attainable by the ballerina who relies on taking steps. Walking and running are awkward and jerky no matter how pretty the disguise. The very important disadvantage for skaters is that much of their time is spent on jumps and spins which add little musical content (often detract) and are dangerous and sometimes destructive to the body especially as the body changes with maturation. Jumps and spins divert audience attention from musical content during performance and cause many problems in terms of execution. Artistic expression is reduced in order to assure energy and strength for the elements, Megapolis test skate versus the later performances are an example.

I actually favor a two-tier system, one aristic which does not require elements and therefore lets someone with Yulia's musical gifts excel (few would watch it?), and the other maintaining the present emphasis on elements for competitive athletic purposes. The gala is a concession to the first system within the present system. Unfortunately,in the present system any skater who now ignores training in elements cannot win, so those inclined toward the artistic side will receive no exposure other than a few ice shows with a limited audience. One televised competition provides more exposure than a lifetime of ice shows. Thus Yulia's artistic development will be the hostage of jumps and spins as she strives to do everything against all the odds. Sometimes I think there are actually two Yulias: the Olympnitskaya Yulia, and the Yulia who wants to show us what she feels. She tries very hard to be both.

I'll die if she skate to GoT. Not saying she should use this version , but she should definitely skate to a rock or metal version of GOT. Maybe finishing the program with Yulia's voice over saying: "Valar Morghulis". :laugh2::rock:

p.s. Not the best quality video, but the videos of her "Sabre Dance" program I had available were not that great.

That's amazing, how the music fits with the performance! :agree:
I liked it very much (though I don't watch GoT, to be honest, and know almost nothing about it )
