Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Yuzu's a perfect spokesperson...I'm really impressed with how articulate he is. (it's a talent, since he's always been good at interviews and promoting things, but it's getting better and better, like his skating)
https://youtu.be/vPqO5P5bDuQ
https://youtu.be/P8DDUod1GOg

Some interesting bits:
The presenters say that they will just talk and haven't really planned what to say before-hand.
Comment on how much Yuzu has matured in a year (since they last talked with him)
Yuzu said that he felt the importance of blood donations even more because of his recent operation. (though it didn't go as far as needing a transfusion)
He talked about the importance of Social Media for raising awareness in young people about important issues...and that it's something he is studying.

The male presenter said that during the filming, he didn't want to ask Yuzu to do a jump because he was worried about injuries. But Yuzu brought it up.
Yuzu says the theme of the advertisement was the power of blood donations, so for him, power, as a skater was shown in this way.

So he did the jump and the director thought it was good. But Yuzu looked at the film and said, please let me do it again. Yuzu says he was off axis so he did it several times to get it right.

He says he can't lip sync without singing a bit. The female presenter was going to ask him to sing...but Yuzu said 'NO' before she could even get there.

He says he sings in the bathroom and around the house so much so that his family would sometimes tell him to stop.

How much I'd like to hear some of that singing one day....

And I really hate the makeup. It's making him look unnatural. It's tooo much!!

And those fans are all kindergarten and elementary children :laugh2: Oh please people should write him something with their ages one the letters, tell him that "not only kindergarten and elementary children" So that he won't be sad that only young kids find him appealing lol.

I am sure tons of girls in his age wrote the same thing hahaha

I`m 5'4", my weight is 100 pounds but my waist is 27.5 inches.
I should work on it.

I am about 5.4 feet too we are the same height as Mao. (don’t ask me the weight  )

And about is Yuzu good singer or not, I read that almost all japanese are good at singing and painting.
If it`s true, then Yuzu should be a good singer. Definitily he can sing like Sashida Fumiya.

I think Yuzu is not a bad singer and I believe if he does voice acting in anime or otome game(Japanese romance adventure sim) all girls are gonna melt.:laugh2:

from the little I herd Yuzu was not off key ...

so happy about Yuzu's comment on Mao's come back! I 've always thought they share so much in their skating style and attitude

he said he is really happy as her fan and a teammate. such a sweetheart. :o:

Thanks for your report. Did he fall in his programs?
Did he really do the Crazy Combo at the very end? 4T3T3A3A?

Please don’t ask me technical things:biggrin:, since I have terrible kinetic vision and I had to stretch my neck as long as possible, because of a tall woman sitting in front of me:cry:. My seat was in a center of 8th row on the opposite side of stage, I could‘ve seen most of his jumps very well if I was 10cm taller, as I'm also 5"ft tall.

Well, he had a big fall at opening when he did 3A. He didn’t fall in his two ex-programs, but had shaky landings in both of them.
I am not sure that combo was really 4T3T3A3A, not only because I am not good at identifying jumps, but also because last two jumps were quite shaky; especially the very last one, which can be qualified as a double not a triple if it was in competition, at least for my eyes.
Still, it’s just my impression and I may be wrong (highly possible), so I hope someone could explain what he exactly did.

After he failed three quad attempts, the show was almost over and he was heading to backyard following other skaters. I thought “OK, that’s enough. You did great today, now you can take a rest”; however, the audience kept demanding him to do one more try and he came back. My thought; “Oh, no! You don’t have to!!” Then he did that combination with 4T, not 4lo. He gestured “sorry” after that, so I think the jump was a kind of excuse for the audience. Also, I guess he didn’t want to finish the last show with failed jumps.

That’s what I think I saw last night, but I may be biased as a protective mother, so you don’t have to trust me. and excuse my bad English, I don't have time to look up my dictionary...

Your English is fine. Thank you so much for your report.

So that he won't be sad that only young kids find him appealing lol.

Only kids are so naive to believe such thing as "I`ll marry Hanyu-senshu":laugh2:
But I think he realizes that girl fans are mostly screaming when see him because they find him appealing in the first place. ;)

I am about 5.4 feet too we are the same height as Mao.

Whoa, I`m delighted to know that.

I think so too.
But I so wish Yuzu would be a singer or actor post 2018 so we can see him often.
That will never be I suppose.

It's so considerate that Yuzuru waited for the mascot, took the mascot's hand and walked a long.
So tender.

Thank you very much for the report!! Could you please tell me about how much were the tickets for the event?

I mean, how can you see in that? Any one give me suggestion?
Sometimes the black parts are holes to see through, but other times there is a panel made of gauze or net, that you can see through from inside - but it's the same colour as the body or whatever so it can be very difficult to see from the outside.

Still can't be easy though, vision must be pretty restricted...

Thanks your guys for uploading photos, videos, translations, report, etc! :party2:

I was surprised to see your comment. I happened to be looking for picture for my avatar today. I tried one after another…But it was more difficult work than imagined… May I get it? (I have already applied it..)

I'm thinking a dance/pop song or a ballad for his EX after he wins his title back in Boston. Two popular ballads in the U.S. : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW6SkvErFEE
or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SWJSL8uhr8
He'd have the crowd in the palm of his hands...

Both of them are wonderful! Especially, I’m in love with “Let it GO”. It’s is beautiful and so inspirational. It must fit him!

It depends on the venue, in case of Makuhari,
Premier: 22,000yen, SS: 19,000yen, S:13,000, A:10,000yen, B:7,000yen.

My ticket was premier, so along with transportation fee, it costed me fortune:cry:. I had to give up summer shopping.

There’s difference among the shows… but for example, in FaOI, \7,000~\22,000 (the current rate: about US$56~176.)

nice!!

Also thank you for the many updates everyone  . I'm guessing he's only finished the Long program since it's the program we've heared about more, if he were to have also the SP ready then that would mean Jeff wasn't the choreographer . Anyway I'm glad he says he likes it/them.

Yeah, but it seems Yuzu is not so into male songs on English.
Didn`t he once say he loves Beyonce and JLo?

Yeah, I remember him saying in an interview he likes listening to Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. Considering the fact that Marika Stuard is also a fan of Swift maybe she influenced him in some way:dance:

Again that is a false rumor. Someone wanted attention and thought of something untrue. Recently someone even said Yuzuru skated to Justine Biber music because Kanako said she liked JB by the time it's 2011. :rolleye: I think there must be some end to some false rumors but for some reason every summer they surface again. What next? That his partner is Sashi? (anyone remember that stupid gossip?)

I have never found any reliable interview that he said downright that he liked Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift. If anyone mentioned AKBA, please notice that from his reaction to AKB in a clip when he was in high school, I am sure he doesn't like AKB even a bit.

Yuzuru has done like thousand of interviews during his career. I am sure many of them might have been misquoted, wrongly quoted. Please be careful and check the source.

The legitimate interview I have found about his music taste when he was young (NHK 2010), he said he only listened to some specific music bands.

Here is the interview with Emi Takeuchi done when Yuzuru was 15, there was one part mentioned about his favorite music. This article is very reliable.

H: Not really. I don’t listen to classical music or ballet music out of interest. I do listen to my own music but mostly J-Pop.

T: What J-Pop music do you listen to?

H: Like Bump of Chicken, Porno Graffitti. I always listen to that kind of music.

T: Oh so, fast tempo songs.

H: Yeah, quite exciting songs.

T: Do you listen to them before competition?

H: Yes, I always listen to them [before competition].

T: Is there anything you can take from J-pop or dance and apply to figure skating?

H: Yeah. Like in banquet after the competition, when we were juniors, we always dance to the music together.

T: Really?

H: Yeah, we danced to western music, like reggae music. So we listened and danced to those songs. And sometime I think to myself that “Ah…that’s good~I want to dance~” whenever I see foreign skaters dancing.

T: I have never seen something like that.

H: You don’t see that so often. It became almost like a dance club.

T: And that’s very different from being on the ice in figure skating, right?

H: Yes, especially the music is usually hip hop or similar kind, so Americans are very good at [dancing to those songs].

T: So just improvising the moves as the music plays…

H: It’s just improvisation. Like creating [a dance sequence].

The only article that mention Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga is this article: http://www.goldenskate.com/2011/04/shooting-for-the-top/

Personally I think some information in the article on GS above was not reliable because the words about his music taste was not direct quote. So I might not take the comment in this article as 100% true. Some information was definitely true but some might be not reliable. Not to mention he was (and still) very bad at English, so I am not sure even he knew what exactly to say. He might simply picked up some random names.

On the other hand, the interview he did with Emi Takeuchi in the same period was all his direct quote.

Yuzru never ever mentioned Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga... I think Yuzuru didn't seem to know many foreign artists by the time the interview was done. And given his music taste, I am not sure he like these lady singers.

Which do you choose to believe? An interview without direct quote, in English - the langue he was very bad at (especially at the age of 15-16) or the interview he did in Japanese with direct quote?

Tatijana Flade who wrote the GS article has been pretty reliable in the past, she still writes articles for GS and other skating sites. There's no evidence that she made it up. This could have been a translation from a competition press conference. To say it is false you need to also have evidence that it is. One could say it is questionable.
