Hi – well, I’m sorry I’m going to have to disagree. The “Let’s Do It” routine is okay, but not interesting, The choreography is uninspired. They are not compelling when they are just swishing around the ice doing a lot of nothing. But that may be due in part to the problem with exhibition skating– the skaters don’t take risks or challenge themselves as they would in a competition. There is little energy, and no fire whatsoever in this program. But I think, too, this “easygoing” style doesn’t suit them. They are best when they are dramatic, deeply involved in their “roles” and concentrating intensely on the story they are telling by means of their elegant skating. Classical roles and powerful music is where they belong. But maybe they’re a little bored with that approach and are trying something different. I can’t blame them for that. But they looked like ordinary skaters and they are NOT ordinary. I didn’t even care much for her costume!

Oh, a point I forgot to make. It makes sense why skaters don’t push themselves in exhibition programs. If you’re going to fall or get hurt, at least you want to fall or get hurt in competition and not waste your maximum effort in merely an exhibition routine. But exhibition skating can be sublime and beautiful – look at “So Many Stars.” They’ve done great programs before and they will do them again. This one, however, is not up to their level.
 
And as I think more about this, I realize these programs are really only “appearances.” Fans (including me) will pay to see the big stars in the flesh and the degree of difficulty in the skating is secondary, if not immaterial.
 
Nessie- I think you're taking it a bit too hard. :) While I may agree with you when you said that the level of skating is not what they can be, I have to point out that this is a show, not a competative exhibition.

In my opinion, not every EX has to be serious or full of drama. We already know V/T are the perfect skaters for such roles ("skyfall", "Aimer", "Benedictus"), but they've also shown us different sides of their personalities ("Mario", "Bring me to life" ex). For me, I find it refreshing when I see two skaters who take their chemistry to another level and show us something else, almost like characters on stage. I didn't find the choreography uninspired, mainly because I know this was their initial intention.

But really my main point is, sometimes even the most serious skaters love to have fun. And why not? ;)

Ah, the voice of reason! Well, you have a point, KinoriH, and you’re right, of course. I hate to give up my case too quickly, but I guess if every routine were serious and semi-tragic, everyone would say, V + T’s skills were a little “Johnny-one-note.” And being too serious all the time can also backfire. Why Kavaguti and Smirnov are so serious most of the time that they actually scare me!

Yes, skaters should have fun (I thought Super Mario was really very clever). Maybe what I was hoping for was another program at the level of their best work, so I could have an additional masterpiece (like both their Olympic programs, Romeo and Juliet, Benedictus, etc.) to turn to when I crave that brilliance. It’s like craving chocolate. One you start, it’s hard to stop. Okay, I’m going to relax now….

It really is true. V + T seem not to suffer at all from their many and long trips. I find their resilience kind of remarkable. I don’t know how they do it, but they are: 1. Young; 2. As Olympic Champions, they are at the height of their careers; and 3) they probably go First Class on flights and have good accommodations in hotels. However, as KinoriH said the other day, what we see on their Instagram is hardly very much of the story.

Then again, they seem to be endlessly curious, try all kinds of foreign foods without complaint, they seem upbeat, full of energy, and even confess (as Tanya said in one of her postings) to experiencing all kinds of emotions on this trip to Japan. They must be sought after at every turn by all kinds of fans and people who want to meet them -- yet they are moved by the attention instead of being annoyed by it. How they remain so full of good will is amazing.

I still don't get how they do it all at once sorry.. :)

If my wedding day was approaching I'd try to make sure everything is 100% done at least 2 months beforehand. Like i said, they seem to be taking things slowly, but to me it looks like it's time to get things going a little bit.. idk.

according to Mozer, they will come back to sochi after FOI (which was over today), and start working on the twist again. After that they'll be touring with "denis ten and friends" at the end of June. My guess is that their wedding is planned for mid/end July.

Well, KinoriH, all I can imagine is that their respective families -- the two mothers most importantly -- are working away on the details of the wedding. Maybe V+T have conveyed exactly what they want to do – and others are carrying out their plans. Tatiana’s main objective was, it seems, to look for her dress during their stopover in New York, before the trip to Japan. How big do you think the wedding will be? 150-200 people? Maybe 150. Otherwise, it gets too crazy. I certainly hope they have the correct address for me so my invitation arrives in plenty of time….

But touring with Dennis Ten? THAT does seem wildly optimistic as far as spare time and energy go. I’m really surprised at this. (But I guess they have to pay for the wedding! ) Also, I don’t know if anything can be more pressure than the Olympics. Planning a wedding is huge pressure too, but it will be like falling off a log compared to the nerves produced by competitions.

It’s the closing skate to the Makuhari FOI show. V+T can be spotted here and there throughout the video. Specifically, they’re coming down the left side of the picture in a split lift at about 3:43 and at about 7:36-7:50 Max is spinning Tatiana over his head like a propeller. Very cool.

The "touring" is two shows in Almaty on June 20 and 21. No shows in Astana announced this year. There has been a rumor about a show in Italy, Milan, but nothing has been announced officially either. I think V/T can handle two days on the show itself and a few more days on rehearsals and the way there and back. Sure, it will take some time away from training, but shows during summer are nothing new for them. The wedding is new, but, as you wrote, others may be helping them with preparations.

Nessie I'm a bit worried about my invitation also. Perhaps they will courier the VIP invites!!!
We are thinking about wedding planning NA style and their culture may have a different approach.Also they didn't compete last season so may have had lots of time to deal with planning issues.
 
Well I guess I didn't realise how truly different the whole process of organizing a wedding can be in other countries.

In my country, for example, a wedding with less than 300 guests is pretty simple, intimate or as other ppl may call it, "boring". I don't think so, of course, but my initial thought was "how CAN they pull this off in such a short amount of time?" :laugh2:
 
300 people at a wedding is the “norm???” Wow. But considering who they are, Tatiana and Max will probably have at least that many. I have probably underestimated the number of guests. (Though they may also be eager for a certain degree of privacy and may limit the number to 150.)

When I got married, five people attended! Of course that was in Communist Romania, in the depth of winter, in an unheated town hall. The official who married us kept his heavy coat on and the lady who assisted him wore a fur hat the size of a small car! She looked like a bear. We had a party in Romania and a party in the US eventually, but still we didn’t come close to 300! What do people in your country do -- invite the whole neighborhood and every living relative of both sides of the family?
