Tatiana Volosozhar & Maxim Trankov

In my country, for example, a wedding with less than 300 guests is pretty simple, intimate or as other ppl may call it, "boring". I don't think so, of course, but my initial thought was "how CAN they pull this off in such a short amount of time?" :laugh2:

In my native country is the same and it used to last 3 days. :slink:

300 people at a wedding is the “norm???”

What do people in your country do -- invite the whole neighborhood and every living relative of both sides of the family?

Pretty much, yes. :rolleye:

I think it's pointless. You end up inviting people you don't even know and it's more about the parents' relatives and friends that they don't have a chance to meet on a daily basis.
Too much money, drama and awkwardness.

In my country, some of famous people invite 1,000 guests for their weddings:shocked: They don't even know that people (Business partner, parents's friends, relatives and friends).

But I don't think Tatiana and Maxim's wedding will be like that. :)

I know some of you wanted to organize a fan meeting with Tanya and Max, but didn't know how/when/if to contact them.

Well, Max posted on Instagram a post saying that in order to set up a meeting with them you need to contact Tanya first, find a place and comfortable time and also make sure that there are more than 10 people attending.

https://instagram.com/p/3u_UzHuVTy/?taken-by=xam_trankov

Apparently some people got offended after they met some Russian fans yesterday without a notice, saying they're detached from other fans and are often unavailable (!!!!).:rolleye:

Thanks for the info on the fundamental requirements to arrange a fan meeting. From what I read on Max’s instagram, it is also noted that one should give a present. I’m surprised that has to be spelled out but maybe it is best to be clear about what V + T expect. Unless the ‘Bing” translation was incorrect.

I may try to organize something for the World’s 2016 in Boston but I have a lot of time to think about it. But it has also been suggested that one can buy an expensive ticket to the competition and be included in a gala which all the skaters are required to attend (but one could run the risk that T and V might say they are too exhausted to attend and then you’re out of luck!). So a fan meeting might be a better idea.

In your comment are you saying that people have complained that V +T show favoritism to Russian fans and are less interested in meeting other fans? Do I understand you correctly? In a way, that might not be surprising as I recall seeing the video of the fan meeting in Japan a few years ago. It seemed grueling for V+T because not only did they have to wait for a question to be asked in Japanese, but then it must be translated into English. Then V+T answer the question in English and their answer then has to be translated into Japanese so everything takes twice as long as it should! V+T were extraordinarily patient but it must have been exhausting. I was exhausted just watching it let alone sitting there for about 40 minutes trying to be gracious....

Trankov said nothing about presents, and nothing that could be interpreted as such. In one of the comments a fan from a V/T fan group talked about a meeting with them that was arranged to give them a present, and then for some reason another fan included "a present" in an explanation to a foreign fan who hadn't understood. I guess it was meant that fans can prepare and give a present if they want, although Trankov himself said nothing about it.

This is an example how false rumors spread - foreign fans who have read about the "present" in Trankov's Instagram and here are now going to retell that to other fans, critics and haters are going to read/hear that too and say how arrogant V/T are that they expect presents from all fans, that they are not even going to agree to meetings if there are not presents etc., etc. :rolleye: Just to be clear, I am in no way blaming you. Even the fan who included it in their translation/explanation can't really be blamed, as they most likely didn't mean to say that Trankov had requested presents and that they were obligatory.

There was a meeting organized by members of their fan club and some people were angry that they didn't know about the meeting, so they accused VT of playing favorites.

As far as I understood, the situation is the following. Some girls - and among them the admins and some old-time fans from their official group - have organized a meeting with V/T. They (the girls, I mean) wanted this event to be rather small, so they didn't inform anyone else. So, when the photos from the meeting appeared, many of the other fans were hurt or annoyed, and began to ask if V/T are now ready to meet only with some 'chosen elite' of the fans, and turn their backs on the other fans. This is aggravated by the fact that - as I've heard - there were some conflicts between the admins of the official group and the ordinary fans... So, it must be pointed out, that Max's post is NOT literally a requirement or instruction, and doesn't even necessary means that they are planning or suggesting the fans to organize some meetings in the nearest future - that was rather an explanation or description of what these girls did, and what any other fans, who wish to hold a fan meeting, should do (gather a group of fans, contact Tanya via any social media, arrange about time and place) - instead of complaining and accusing...

Ok, I'll try ti explaine what's going on.
Go back to 2010. A fan-group was created almost immideatly when it became clear that Tanya and Max will skate together. Even in a year it was rather small group (like 500 people) who like figure skating first of all. Besides Max's father was an active member of that group, Tanya and Max "liked" photos sometimes, other relatives were members of group, that's why rules were rather stricked - nothing what can hurt them (something like discurtion of privat life or level of sallary) was allowed. The position was to respect all the athlets and coaches and everyone agreed with this at thst time.
Time went, group grow. But till 2013-2014 season there was not problem with that rules. But suddenly before OWG group grow rapidly and a lot of new people came with only one question (about privat life), admins told something like "we don't discuss things like this". After that some new people immidiatly left the group. And "old" fans became mad on such "new fans". And a lot of "new fans" became angry on admin of that group because they were not allowed to discuss some things they wanted.
And now when photos from fan meeting appeared and admin of that group was on them, those "new fans" became angry, but not only on girls who were in that meeting, but also on Tanya and Max thinking that they want to meet only with "choosen" fans. That is not actually true - girls just didn't want to orginize some big event but wanted to congradulate Tanya with birthday which was recently (that's why they gave presents).
When Max saw comments with some angry comments like "I also wanted to go to the meeting but there was no info. You meet only with choosen" he posted that photo with comment like "no, you are not right, we can meet with everyone, you just need to do that and that like those girls did".

Thanks for the clarification, Hermione. I've seen it before, some mutual accusations of that group's members in some other vk groups, but didn't know what all that was about...

Oh, my goodness. What a saga. Things certainly can get complicated. And I would never want to pass on inaccurate information -- I should have known the "Bing" translation was mostly off. It is often wacky and useless to use Bing, but I try to get an idea of what is going on. And it did occur to me that the word "present" might refer to Tanya's recent birthday.... Thank you all for the clarification.

I am an idiot for allowing myself to think for one split-second that a present would be required!! I’m so mad at myself. It’s ridiculous on the face of it and i should have smelled a rat. You’re right, that’s how stupid rumors get started and I think I should keep my nose out of things that are not perfectly clear.

It must be difficult to be a celebrity…

Nessie, don't worry. We all make those mistakes. Bing, Google etc. do a poor translation. However I am so grateful to all our Russian and Russian speaking friends on this site who are so willing to clarify posts for us. Thanks to all of you.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. Thank you all....

I am not so sure about the "fan" who translated on IG and her intentions.
The tone of her translation sounds vaguely sarcastic and what would you say about the latest "translation" she provided on this IG pic?

Maxim's IG usually has at least one active troll and since he bans them with regularity, this might be shaping to be the new one, only more subtle for now.

eli60056, I agree with you, it's not correct translation of what Maxim said. \i cannot figure out weather that girl is a troll or she just fancies Maxim. Once she left a comment about not accepting married Trankov, but it was deleted.
kinoriH, don't belive in what that girl says!
