Javi training camp will be during mid August. Yuzuru final ice show will be 12th July. So he will go to Canada in mid July as schedule. I think he need to work with Shae and Jeff (assume he will do Yuzuru SP) more than will Orser and Tracy. After all it's the choreography need to be done.

Both Brian and Tracy will go to Javi's camp at the same time? Or is it 1 week for each? I forgot. If it's one week each, it would not be trouble for him to back to Canada, since one of them will be there.
Edit: Nevermind, thanks for the answer Meoima. ;)

Thank you all for the answers. Where is Javi´s camp? I didn´t knew he had one...

Both Brian and Tracy will go. But it doesn't matter much because other than Brian and Tracy they have other specialists there. Not to mention as I have said, it seems he will work more with choreographers this summer as his FS is such a challenge and he still need to adjust it. And no news about SP I guess there's still some works need to be done.

i (want to ) believe Jeff will choreograph his SP as well but they have 2 weeks of shows together so they might do it between the shows if not busy with other things, i agree too that he needs to work with Shae

i dont know if the 2 will be there at the same time actually, i dont remember any of them mentioning haha

Edit: Javi's camp is gonna be at Spain ;)

I think it will be In Valdemoro, Spain, and I also think it's the first time he's doing it. But I agree with Meioma, even if both Brian and Tracy go, I think it's more important for Yuzuru to work with Shae Lynn and whoever choreographs his SP (hopefully Jeff). If something in his technique stars to falter, it can be fixed a bit later on when they start training more intensely.

BOrser will be in Madrid in August, 17-22; TWilson 24-29, so they won't be there at the same time

When Yuzu said he felt he was the only one who could do this style of program, I thought he might be trying to say that he's in a good position to make this sort of program a success.

I could be totally wrong, but a lesser known skater could struggle with a japanese program which isn't so easily interpreted by an audience. POTO and R&J are easy to understand because everyone knows the story so well, it's kind of a safe music choice. Whereas music which is hard to relate to can make an audience lose interest, especially if the skater isn't a big star. Yuzuru's popularity kind of means he can get away with anything right now, so could he have meant that in that respect he's the only one who could skate this style of program?

I don't think there's anything wrong with his statement, regardless of what he meant, but that's just how I initially read it :) Probably best not to dwell on it now haha

I am an ordinary fan, not very knowledgable of music, so I am afraid my opinion is not very strong. But I really prefer Yuzuru skating to some music or story that the general public like me can relate to, even if it is warhorses like POTO or Romeo&juliet. But I agree that if someone can succeed in interpreting Japanese story and music in skating, it must be him. I hope that he can make a good Free Program with that music that he has chosen, especially with the technical content that he plans to do. I would prefer he choose to try to skate Exhibition program with that music first before using it in Free program in competitions. I do not know what character he will try to show in his program? A general, a warlord, a prince, or a deity in a religion or a faith? I hope him the best. I also hope he will not choose something like that for his FP at the Olympics in 2018. Sorry I want to be positive but I do worry. Please Yuzuru stay healthy, don't do too many shows, don't take risks in doing jumps contests like you are doing now in shows in Japan with quads Axel, quads Loop. It makes me worry he can get injured and can not train like last season.

If you're talking about the music, I'd say it's probable that he will choose a warhorse for 2018, exactly because of what you've said. The world's eyes are on figure skating during the Olympics. So while more experienced fans might roll their eyes at the song being used again, the casual viewers may be drawn to watch certain skater if the song he/she is skating to is popular. I'm not very knowledgable of music either but I try to be open for not-so-popular songs, specially from skaters I like such as Yuzu, though that's just me.
If you're talking about the difficulty of the program, I'm not so sure he would go for something easier, he's always thriving to improve (as much as that worries us). But I'd like to think he's learned about the importance of keeping himself healthy this season (an interview was posted here where he said his priority will be his health) :agree:

I've liked skating since elementary school though I didn't really get uber into it until the Olympics (2014). But since the summer before 8th grade, I've been thinking of songs that I thought would work for skating and a lot of them are pop, pop-rock, or rock. I've always been thinking of songs.

So even when I wasn't a fan, I've been thinking of songs....and wondering why no lyrics....and then got uber excited when they started to allow lyrics.

First of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and please do not hesitate to do so as this forum exists for airing various views, including conflicting ones but always in a respectful manner. :)

I think all of us in the thread share your concern about Yuzuru's health and safety. The most we can do is pray and hope for the best, for Yuzuru being Yuzuru, will always try to challenge himself, be it in those quad challenges in skating shows or adding technical difficulty to his programs. Or going beyond the warhorses for his choice of music. ;)

Seriously, his new LP musical choice is a risk, but as noted previously, Yuzuru can be more daring having the leeway of being Olympic champion. Being Japanese is also who he is, and perhaps we should not begrudge him if he wants to highlight his heritage in his skating. To allay your fears, let me point out Denis Ten did the same last year for his LP and got career best scores. Also, Yuzuru got Shae-Lynn Bourne to choreograph to ensure his LP is accessible even to nonJapanese skating fans.

In answer to your query, he is portraying the character of a shaman, a man with supernatural powers, a good fit for him I think.

Let's trust and believe in him. :)

For me his choice for this season is great. Reading on other forum there also will be footwork section that is going to be fast. I just wonder how he wants to do this all with 3 quads, because choreo sequence at the end is very intense and fast too

Skating to unconventional music is big artistic risk. You don't know how audience will respond to the music. Some people may love it and some may hate it. There is a reason why skaters choose warhorse music, because it has wide appeal. But he is the Olympic Champion, so he can afford to take this risk.

I think many of Yuzuru's fans like Japanese culture or are familiar with Japanese culture or oriental culture, so most of us love his music choice. But I do wonder for fans who are not familiar with Japanese culture or oriental culture, do they find the music very foreign and need some time to get used to?

Yes, a lot can go wrong with this program. This music is extremely Japonesque and it has appeal limitations, so the question is how will the judges/general audience will react to it. Another problem is, as others have pointed out, his ability to fully interpret this concept with an exceedingly difficult program layout. He intends to go for 3 quads next season and judging by what we've seen and what he has said, the chsq and stsq will be taxing stamina wise. I have no idea how he's going to pull all of it off. This is probably the biggest risk he has taken so far in his career, and I love that he decided on this himself. It shows that he doesn't want to be boxed and wants to grow as both an artist and as a skater.

On a side note, people who were at the shows said he skating so fast (literally flying across) which was scary for some of them because the rink was so small.

I think there's no need for fans to worry about the "public reception" of the program, especially since if Hanyu choosed to skate to unconventional music of course he knows about the risks and knows very well, or else he wouldn't have choosen Shae Lynn to choreograph it. There's a reason of why he didn't go for the safe and easier to interpret warhorses once again, and that's to push himself artistically I assume, and it was about time, IMO. He mentioned that he wants grow into SEIMEI like he did with PW, and I remember Jeff Buttle saying that when he suggested it he knew that it could be a success or a absolute disaster. Yuzuru fans by the end of 2012 were freaking out at the thought of Yuzuru, their delicate yet powerful 17 year old Romeo skating to PW, what made the difference was that Yuzuru committed to it. Skaters do worry about the reception of their programs but if they start to always restrict themselves and to not choose the music that they want to skate to as nuts as the song may be, they will be trapped and they will lose their joy in skating their programs.

And to be honest, right now Yuzuru could skate to Lion King and he would still receive about the same response plus 100 flying poohs hiting his head.

I'm actually more worried about how he will handle the 3 quads + How the program will look, the theme can be different but if they just change a couple of hand movements and keep all the elements the same just with a hydroblade this time, that's nothing new.

I agree a lot with this. :agree:

I think people's appreciation of foregin music is underrated. Most people, in my experience at least, are perfectly capable of enjoying and appreciating 4 minutes of
"something different". Especially people who would be into figure skating, even casually. My mother is over 50 and loves foregin/folky vibes in figure skating, from Russian folk to African drums to Far Eastern flutes. Give her some Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon anytime.

People unfamiliar with Japanese culture might not get the demon-fighting magician, but they'll probably get an ancient warrior like pandaatlarge said and they will enjoy it just the same. As long as the music is well performed to, they'll enjoy it.

No need to worry about the foregin-ness, in my opinion.
