Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Hm. Am I right in thinking that Hanyu's biggest FS point scorers, the 3A-3T and 3A-1L-3S combinations... just became even more monstrous point-scorers?! O_o

(Base value of 3T and 3S was increased?)

I found something heartwarming. A fan drew this scene of Yuzu saying hi to his Japanese team members...he hugged Machida. I think this is at the end while saying goodbye, Machida ruffled Yuzu's head. Must be the first time they met since Yuzu was hospitalised and Machida retired.

This is just her imagination right? It's cute though, makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

So those scenes between Yuzuru and Tatsuki didn't actually happen? In any case, heartwarming fan art indeed.
The artist must be a fan of both of them as I am. And much as I am happy when both of them win, I was never as proud of them when they experienced their most crushing loss (Tatsuki at 2014 Worlds and Yuzuru at this year's Worlds) and handled themselves with grace.

Thanks for sharing Alia. Thanks also mikaboo for your DOI report which gave us a flavor of what transpired. I hope you never tire of sharing your experience watching those ice shows and skating competitions with us

I’ve just remembered reading a report which said that at DOI Machida had gazed at yuzu’s performance of SEIMEI with thoughtful and serious eyes from the backyard. Very impressing.

I think he would be impressed with and appreciative of Yuzuru stretching his artistic boundaries. Thanks for sharing.

ISU has just issued a new Communication on "Scale of Values, Levels of Difficulty and Guidelines for marking Grade of Execution, season 2015-2016" with -4 GOE for fall quad in men only.

I think as long as Yuzuru is healthy and well-trained, he will land those quads so increased deductions for falls on quads should not be a problem. :)

I predict the ISU web servers will crash at 15:59 Swiss Time... under the weight of countless people camping on the GP pages, and hitting "Refresh" five times/second...

the only thing I don't like is that UR quad is only 2 points less than fully rotated quad

The revised BV for UR quad encourages cheated quads. That would be unfair to skaters who have better technique. Maybe the tech panel would be more strict with quad rotation when they review the jumps, otherwise we may see more cheated quads getting too much reward.

I don't get the logic for raising the bv of easier triples. The only explanation I can come up with is that they raised the bv of easier triples like 3t and 3s to compensate the difficulty of combination jumps because these two jumps are usually used in combo rather than solo jumps.

Edit:
Is yuzu in bottom right picuture ? I don't know.. It's like yuzu at the age of 15 or 16...

P.S. Can you see the second image of sota's twitter?
I'm afraid I can't do it well..

Yes, I think it's Yuzuru at the bottom right picture of Sota's most recent tweet.

This is off topic, but I have a request as to Sota's May 29 tweet as I recognize the Miraculous Medal in the pictures. Can you please translate what Sota said inhis tweet? Thanks in advance.

He commented he happened to know he had the same pendant as his friend.
Probably it is Miraculous Medal. One of the response also said it draws the Blessed Virgin Mary and is made in Italy.

Hopefully the slow motions repetitions will allow the UR quads to not be that rewarded, UR jumps, aside for the BV reduction, get harsh GOEs. Almost as much, is not as much, as a fall. Maybe the revised BV was used as a way to compensate the -4GOEs? I think it will still be better to rotate it fully and fall than landing it UR, at least your negative GOEs will come off from the full BV, and that's what Yuzuru does most of the times anyway.
And I agree, The only logic I see behind raising the BV for the 3T and 3S is because they're normally in combo. But as somebody just said, this will actually be positive for Yuzuru since his 3A-3T and 3A-lo-3S are his big point scorers :)

Thank you. :)

ETA: And Yuzuru against Patrick at Skate Canada brings all sorts of déjà vus.

I think Yuzuru got SC because Skate America wanted to invite Denis (also fans probably hope Yuzu doesn't get COC due to what happened there). Denis has a pattern of performing poorly at grand prix events, so that gives Jason a better chance to qualify for the final.

Yuzu got Skate Canada (facing Patrick Chan) and NHK!
Just saw that. NHK is not a surprise, since we all expected that. SC is not really a surprise too, actually. I'm more surprised that Javier didn't get TEB, I was almost 100% sure he'd get it.
Can't say that I'll go to TEB right away, but Misha will be there, along with Volosozhar/Trankov, Liza, Kanako and Papadakis/Cizeron... Mmm...

EDIT: Yuzuru and Mao both got NHK... if any of you plan to go, you better get your places. Fast. Like VERY fast. ;)

I hope Yuzuru will be in reasonable shape at start of this season this time for good fight at SC
Oh, that reminds me... when do we know which skater will go to which Challenge competition? Yuzuru couldn't do Finlandia Trophy last year because of his back, but maybe he'll want to go back this year... Or he wants to gain rest/training time until Skate Canada.
