Oh, that reminds me... when do we know which skater will go to which Challenge competition? Yuzuru couldn't do Finlandia Trophy last year because of his back, but maybe he'll want to go back this year... Or he wants to gain rest/training time until Skate Canada.

I think there's a good chance he'll do Finlandia again, as you said, he may want to go since he couldn't last year. And those events are a good way to try the programs in competition for the first time without the risk of it being a Grand Prix event (much less SC against Patrick). And with that monster of a FS that he seems to have planned, it seems like it would be needed unless he is too tired. I'm nervous/excited already!

I think Yuzuru got SC because Skate America wanted to invite Denis (also fans probably hope Yuzu doesn't get COC due to what happened there). Denis has a pattern of performing poorly at grand prix events, so that gives Jason a better chance to qualify for the final.

Yuzuru has a pattern of doing terrible (for his standards) in the early GP events too, but even when he's doing bad, he does better than most. (last season not withstanding)

SC, I wonder if they chose him because they wanted Patrick to get a feel of competing against Yuzuru before the big events or if Yuzu chose it himself for the same reasons as 13-14 season Either way it'll be fun and messy.

Along with the US guys and Nam SC may very wel turn out to be a bloodbath (perhaps not as much as say TEB but still)

Fingers crossed that Yuzuru will do well on the GP circuit because he isn't exactly known to give his best performances during the first half of the season...

Yup, I do not expect him to win anything till the GPF.

In the GPF he was 4th in his first final (2011), silver in the 2nd (2012) and gold the last two years...not bad

I think I will be the exception. Knowing him, he'll try to bring his "best game" against Patrick in Skate Canada, and for sure as national champion of Japan (and with a Japanese themed LP no less), he doesn't want to lose to anyone in his home GP. He'll be golden this season.

Even though Yuzu performs relatively poorly in grand prix events, he usually still medals. Based on Denis' past record, Denis usually totally bombs in grand prix events. So it's definitely easier for Jason to beat Denis than to beat either Yuzu or Javi. In fact, Jason did beat Denis at SA last year.

Isn't it ironic how "expecting little" of his GP performances is two silver medals? Even when he does "poorly" it's still outstanding on his field.

Got to love Yuzuru's fans humble expectation about him despite his achievement

But I'm doing the same~ too high expectation will hit you hard its no harm to be cautious :yes:

Just positive thinking and following his own mindset of "can do." After his travails last year, I really think he's due for a stellar season and am praying he'll be protected against anything untoward. And I do understand the humble expectations of others.

I disagree, I'd rather have seen a heavier penalty for URs and <<. The ISU should be trying to encourage proper technique, not allow people to get away with bad technique by making the penalty less.

I don't understand why they raised the base value for 3T and 3S, I don't remember skaters having any trouble on them or anything? It's really random and I don't think it makes much sense

Lol what. So there is addition -GOE for quad falls but not for triples? They should have just done -2 or -3 for falls across the board. How is a fall on a quad more disruptive than a fall on a triple? Or a double? Or on no jumps at all???

And an that increase in UR BV? If they wanted to support skaters going for cheated jumps instead of falling, they should have just increase the penalty for falls instead of increasing it to 8.0 for UR. The message they're sending is, "try not to fall, so learn to land URed quads if you can't do them properly". They should have kept the BV for URed quads as is (or even lower it) and penalize falls in general more heavily in deductions and make it clear "land your jumps and rotate them properly".

Knowing Yuzu, I think he will still go for the quad and would not back down. With this rules change I can see Jason getting gold medals even worlds if all align

Oh my, what a fight we will have at SC I hope that Yuzu will be in a relatively good shape at the start of the season purely of selfish reasons cuz I want to go to GPF so I need Yuzu there :yes:
