2015-16 Grand Prix assignments

Face it- everyone would complain that Jeremy was taking a GP spot away from a deserving skater if he was in.

Could someone explain if Mao will actually be at both her GP events? Last I checked her team had said that GP series may be unlikely. Maybe I missed some piece of news... (?)

Here is an article about Mao entering the Grand Prix.

http://www.kyodonews.net/news/2015/06/14/20578

I also heard somewhere (I can't remember now) that Coach Sato was initially against her participating in the Grand Prix but that he changed his mind because the training was going well. I also heard that organizers were having trouble preparing the arenas for Mao to participate in Regionals and Sectionals because the venu for Regionals in particular hosted only about 500-600 people. Furthermore, hurrah posted this link in the Mao Asada fan thread (http://www.daily.co.jp/newsflash/gen...08126223.shtml) which indicates that this problem can be solved by Mao skating in the Japan Open to bypass Sectionals and the Grand Prix series to avoid Regionals. Finally, If Mao opted out of the Grand Prix, special consideration would likely have to be given to her to proceed to Worlds even if she did well at Nationals because her ranking would be lower than those on the Japanese team who participated in it. This was reported by rosewood from fsuniverse.

Bingo. And you know, maybe shaking things up like this will work for him. He always peaked at nationals, so maybe this will be a good strategy for avoiding that. Heck, at this point, why not?

I still think he's such a pure, musical, has-everything-that-made-me-love-skating skater (except the ability not to eff up under pressure!). And I'm VERY curious to see his choreography.

I can't believe Sima and Maria were not allowed to go senior.

So stupid of the Russian Figure Skating Federation!:mad:

Considering how many weaker juniors got the GP spots.

I would not have. As long he was giving it his everything each time he went out on the ice, I would not have complained at all. He was fifth at US Nationals and on the GP last year; it would have been logical, to my mind and I was actually really surprised to open up the spreadsheet this morning (first thing when I woke up) and see that he wasn't on it.

What IS rubbing me up the wrong way is this:

I want to focus on nationals and worlds

Nationals, okay, fine, you're 30, you're injured, you're not as young as you used to be, and approaching the tenth Nationals. That I can understand. But Worlds? Talking like that's a given? No. The US men's field is quite deep, and they are all younger than Jeremy, as hungry or more hungry than him, and now a lot of them are jumping better too.

This made me sigh as well:

Abbott said that if he could land two quads (toe and salchow) by the end of June, that he would continue with his competitive plans.

I swear to Plushenchrist, that is almost exactly what he said last year, and we saw neither hide nor hair of the other quad.

Reportedly, Mao's training is going "better than expected". She's landing 3A and half loop combos in practice.

She's practically a pro athlete. Sponsors and TV want her participation even with some financial rewards.

Jeremy should probably just get it over with and retire. Not competing before Nationals isn't going to help him when the other men will be just starting to peak at Nationals.

I hope he will come to Finlandia Trophy....

some thoughts after release of GP assignments...

- huge positive surprise Mao gets 2 GP competitions, it will be definitely interesting see her competing again against e.g. Radionova;
- SA and TEB look very interesting in ladies field - I'm looking forward to see Russian ladies competing against each other (that Tuktamysheva vs. Lipnitskaya TEB thing will be massive if Yulia will be in shape);
- good to see 2 GPs for Kaetlyn Osmond (I'm curious how will go her return) and super excited for 2 GPs for Kazakh Elizabet Tursynbaeva;
- Partick Chan's return - that SC against Yuzuru will be massive...
- for Ice Dance I think all GPs look quite interesting - for me especially SA and NHK will be a treat to watch;
- excited to see Yanowskaya/Mozgov debut as seniors (TEB looks especially interesting for them with World Champs Papadakis/Cizeron, Piper and Paul, Madison and Zach, Stepanova/Bukin and Brits;
- epic battle at NHK Duhamel/Radford vs. Volososhar/Trankov - it will be a great occasion to see them back-to back before Worlds;
- really happy to see Kavaguti/Smirnov assigned for 2 GPs - that showdown with Stolbova/Klimov at Rostelecom will be a treat to watch if both teams will be at finest;
- excited for Canadian pairs - Lubov and Dylan, Kirsten and Michael that they have 2 GP spots each, hope for great outings for them;
- Shoma Uno's assignments - very tough fields to compete for him (both SA and TEB against Denis Ten and TEB also against Chan...);

Overall, very interesting draws, some epic showdowns, some big returns into competition. I'd die for posibility to go for NHK (most interesting GP this year's for me) - seeing Mao, Yuzuru, Gabriella and Guillaume, Satoko, Meaghan and Eric, Tatiana and Maxim against each other, Jason, Shibutanis would be a magic thing. As a Ice Dance is most interesting segment for me, this season's GPs looks very interesting, but I've secretly hoped until the very date of announcement that Tessa and Scott will return...

Who could that CoR spot be assigned to? Is Artemieva going to compete next season, too? Or Stavitskaya?

US gets 15 slots (17 last year). Russia only 14 slots, Japan 15 slots.
Russia could have more - Sakhanovich (6th on SB) and Sotskova (15th on SB, ahead Tursynbaeva, Miller, Meite etc etc etc) will be at JGP instead of GP.

My guess is it is being held for Sotnikova to see how she looks since it has been more than a year since she has been on competitive ice. If not her maybe they will let Serafima have it for a little Senior experience

Stavitskaya is a dancer now being coach by Zhulin. I guess it will go to Artemieva since she's the only senior with 1 event, if Sot declines.

I hadn't heard that! That's a shame. I liked Maria Stavitskaya (as I do with Maria Artemieva as well). But, with the Ladies field being so deep in Russia, it is probably wise for her to get out of the lion's den.

Personally, I would have preferred Stavitskaya to stay in Singles and switch to representing her homeland (she's Ukrainian). But given the current relations between Russia and the Ukraine, I'm not surprised she didn't opt for that move. It could have turned out very messy!

Do we know yet who Maria's partner will be?

No Stavitskaia - she moved to ice dance.

Born in 2000 (Sakhanovich, Sotskova, Proklova, Iuschenko) will be at JGP.

Probably place is reserved for Sotnikova, if not Sotnikova - Artemieva.
No other good Russian Ladies, who are age eligible and will not be at JGP.

I hope he will come to Finlandia Trophy....

Finlandia is quite early in the season, though - and Nationals is in January. So I wouldn't think it very likely, as it wouldn't do him much good, nor would he likely be in form, if he is targeting to peak several months later.
