2015-16 Grand Prix assignments

Hmm... Sotnikova's lowest score of all her Internationals (including Junior) was at Rostelecom Cup 2012.

That was before she controversially won the Olympics. Now Russia has to prop her up to make the results look more legitimate.

Reportedly, Mao's training is going "better than expected". She's landing 3A and half loop combos in practice.
That's good to hear! I hope that continues. I mean, her and her team must be doing something right, because Mao has basically been injury-free throughout her career, even with her prior demanding scheduling of competitions and shows.

It could be possible that the Russian Fed is holding the spot free for Z/G, in the case that Tiffany gets the release. If not, I guess S/K will get it.

Didier release Tiffany? Stranger things have happened, but got's to say it would be a shame if they don't get to skate because of this. They really do look promising.

Oh, yes, I also think they will end up getting the Rostelecom spot, I just think it is rather funny the Russian Fed has not admitted that already- are they trying to scare them or is there another team they legitimately have their eye on as a potential fit for that spot if they seem to be doing better than S/K?

I don't think it's any stranger than the fact that SA hasn't named Karen Chen to their host spot. Both feel like no brainers. Maybe there's potential for another opening--for either S&K or Karen--before the deadline so the federations are keeping their options open?

Uh, that would be after singling a flip in her SP, and having 3 falls (one of them UR) in her LP along with other minor errors and missed levels. She is a completely different skater since then. And it's been a while since she's had a competition with the equivalent of 4-5 major errors.

I think given her track record outside of Russia she might be better served by some good old fashioned honest scoring. I do think she'll be able to build momentum at home though but I doubt she is looking for a handout.

I don't think it would be a handout. She would still have to compete against two very solid technical skaters in Medvedeva and Radionova. She won't get the special treatment like in Sochi, but to be fair, on the senior circuite she had never skated nearly as good as she did in Sochi so the marks were bound to be huge to begin with and add Sochinflation.

I don't agree, I think there are other viable options than Chen depending how everyone (including her) is skating. If we were SURE everyone was in the form they where in in January it would be fairly clear, but we just aren't, especially as many of these girls (Chen included) are at an age where puberty can make its presence known. I don't think there are truly other viable options than S/K (even with how deep Russian dance can be) unless Tiffany does actually get released, which I will admit hadn't occurred to me as a possibility given Didier's attitude...

Yes, I remember that Sotnikova's skating.

Many Russian Ladies don't love Rostelecom Cup - Liza, Julia, Anna. Treated as best GP Events in Rissia are Cup of China and TEB.

Oh, absolutely. I just think that a medal at nationals would supersede the waiting game, unless there was a issue of injury or an athlete wishing to remain on the junior circuit.

I agree very much. I somewhat hope that the USA does not assign the TBA spots until after a few early season Senior B/Challenger series skates. To me half the point of the TBA slots is to give those skaters that have a breakout early season a chance. I want the spots to go whoever does well early season and in doing so earns the slots.

I think if S/K medals at SA, that COR TBD spot will for sure go to them to give them a chance to qualify for GPF, unless they get one of the TEB TBD spots first. Otoh, if they underperform at SA (say, get beat by both Hawayek/Baker and Yanovskaya/Mozgov) and is out of GPF contention, I think there's a chance the Rus Fed might try to spread the wealth and give that TBD spot to Kosygina/Moroshkin (assuming Tiffany Z. doesn't get a release in time of course).

I assume you're talking about CoR. I was under the impression that DMD was talking about Russian Cup Series and home inflation there so that was what I was calling a handout.

Assuming there are some withdrawals (since there always seem to be), do the hosts then go down the list in order to find a replacement or can they invite whoever they feel like? I know they aren't necessarily obligated to find replacements, but I hope that others would be given a chance if spots open up.

I'm sure it's a dumb question but why do Russian skaters not care for Rostelecom?

Host may choose any skater of Top5 (on Season Best) substitutes eligible for event.
Substitute mav be not eligible for event (but eligible for other events) if at event are 3 skaters/couples of country of substitute, because more than three of one country are not allowed.
