2015-16 Grand Prix assignments

Anton Shibnev

Thanks for the info.

Never heard tell of him, though! :o:

Sothnkova's coach Buyanova (Vodorezova) - Adelina plans to compete at Cup of Russia.
Also Adelina plans to compete at Challenger Series Event in Saransk, 15-18 Oct 2015.

So, the slot is being saved for her, just as we suspected!

Very wise move of her to do the Challenger Series event in Russia. But, I have a feeling she will be popping up in more than just one Senior B.

Like the rest of us, Adelina will have seen how doing a lot of Senior B's last season helped Liza come back from no-where the year before. But, she will also have seen that Liza did too many.

So, I reckon Adelina will do maybe 3 Senior B's plus the Grand Prix as her warm-up to Nationals (which HAVE to be her priority, as that is how the international slots are selected).

All the best to her!

It's so good to know that she will be back next season, I also think she will do more than one Senior B competition to have her programs ready for the big events (and kind of make up for only being able to participate in one GP Event). Wishing her the best of luck and that she may have good results in the tough Russian ladies' field.

Thank you for the information Alex! :)

I hadn't heard that! That's a shame. I liked Maria Stavitskaya (as I do with Maria Artemieva as well). But, with the Ladies field being so deep in Russia, it is probably wise for her to get out of the lion's den.

Personally, I would have preferred Stavitskaya to stay in Singles and switch to representing her homeland (she's Ukrainian). But given the current relations between Russia and the Ukraine, I'm not surprised she didn't opt for that move. It could have turned out very messy!

I'm surprised (and disappointed) Stavitskaya didn't remain in singles as well. She had a lot of work to do to be competitive in that field, for sure... but it seems like switching to Ice Dance wouldn't be showcasing her strengths as a skater. Jumps are irrelevant in dance, and she needs to improve her choreography, transitions, and footwork... which are important factors in Ice Dance. Seems like she's got her work cut out for her.

Surprised no one has mentioned yet that Nikita and Victoria have only one spot... wonder what Marina will say about this...

Well, given how they got on in their first season together, we can hardly be surprised.

On the other hand, Moore-Towers / Marinaro managed to get 2 slots in Pairs, even though they also had a very disappointing first season together.

The only explanation I can think of is that they are taking into account how well the Canadians did with their previous partners. And if that is the case, why wasn't it the same taken into account for the Russians?!

So, I don't know...!

EDIT: Just looked, and there is still the "TBD" in the Cup of Russia. So, you never know...

There are fewer pairs than dance teams to choose from. It also helps that some of the pairs teams that would've been on the GP this season are out or split up.

Isn't it fair to assume they are very well positioned to be considered the TBD host invite for Cup of Russia? The other 4 top teams have already been assigned 2 events.

Very glad to see the reassuring update on Adelina's plans! The implication is that thought not disclosed with the ISU announcement, the "slot" assignment is likely known.

So then getting back to Marina's potential concerns, perhaps she doesn't have them to such a worrisome extent, perhaps she already knows as well.

I think this is a very smart choice for her. Competing in Russia will preserve the very high marks she earns with the home inflation.

I think given her track record outside of Russia she might be better served by some good old fashioned honest scoring. I do think she'll be able to build momentum at home though but I doubt she is looking for a handout.

I did notice that! Not surprised, though, considering their performance at NHK last year. The Russian Fed will most likely give them the TBD spot as Rostelecom, as everyone here is saying, considering that I/Z, Stepanova/Bukin, Monko/Khaliavin, and Yanovskaya/Mozgov all have received two assignments.

Some of my thoughts:
Ladies: First of all I am really surprised about Ashley Wagner's assignments. I thought she will get the SA as a current US champion, but I knew there is a chance Gracie will be at SA instead Ashley because Gracie did a bit better at Worlds and I think they are pretty comparable(But I still like Ashley more). But I am kinda shocked she won't be at TEB. They wanted her last year, in 2013, 2012, 2011 and I thought she will get this invitation again. I had a feeling they will want her again. Maybe they wanted a change? Or they wanted Gracie because they think she is better. I don't know. I had no problem with Ashley at SC and the NHK but I have a feeling that SA invites the best US lady. Does this mean they prefer Gracie over Ashley? I know Gracie is a great skater but I'm a big Ashley's fan. I'm just maybe a little bit dissapointed from that.
I will wait what Karen Chen and Elizabet Tutsynbaeva will show us. They've both been great in juniors but I'm not sure if they are able to compete with the others-not in the terms of technique but in presentation...I think they still skate more like juniors, but who knows. They will grow over the summer and it'll be different maybe. For Evgenia Medvedeva it's different. She has been more successful and she is the reigning WJ Champion. She could have better starting position.
Men: I am very happy about Shoma, Boyang(finally getting out of JGP, just hope he starts to pay more attention to the second mark), and Sasha Petrov. I haven't expected this at all because he was listed as a Junior on the Russian FS web. I wonder how this system works. I thought when he is listed as a junior it is some sign for the organisation of the GP and they won't invite him. Apparently not. So how it was. They invited him anyway or Russian FS federation changed their mind or Mishin used his position? Does anyone know something more?
Pairs: I'm very sad that Haven and Brendan won't compete. It is such a shame about that injury. On the other hand she will have time to recover and hopefully will be okay then.
Some positive notes-I am happy to see Fedorova/Miroshkin and Seguin/Bilodeau will compete for the first time in the senior GP. It will be difficult for them but I just can't wait to see them. I'm really looking forward to Marchei/Hotarek debut in the GP. I love them. I expect V/T will dominate in France. At the NHK it will be more difficult because D/R will be there as well. I prefer V/T because they just have beautiful, classic skating with some concept, while D/R are just skating from one level 4 to another. It just mostly about lutzes and level 4 elements and I don't like their programs.
Dance:I have just one important thing to say: I can't wait to see Yanovskaya/Mozgov!

Oh, yes, I also think they will end up getting the Rostelecom spot, I just think it is rather funny the Russian Fed has not admitted that already- are they trying to scare them or is there another team they legitimately have their eye on as a potential fit for that spot if they seem to be doing better than S/K?

It could be possible that the Russian Fed is holding the spot free for Z/G, in the case that Tiffany gets the release. If not, I guess S/K will get it.
