Mao Asada

Actually I wasn't surprised about Mao's decision to compete on the GP circuit. I think it's like Patrick in the sense that after missing an entire season, they would most definitely want to get used to competing again (especially with all the new competitors and rivals) and it's definitely more beneficial for them to do so by competing on the GP circuit rather than waiting for Worlds.

I'm excited about her programs too! It'll be awesome if she can do japanese music like Yuzuru is

I am going to be :jaw: literally if she chose Japanese-ish program.

So excited to finally see her (unfortunately, not in person) return! It feels official now.

I made a little Comeback Trailer dedicated to Mao. Please enjoy!

Thanks for the awesome video! I hope Mao stays in her A-game throughout the season. And I hope that she becomes number 1 again!

Brought tears to my eyes. :) I really hope she'll shine again this season! Go Mao, you are the best! :cheer:

Here is a young ballerina who was inspired to give this lovely performance in tribute to Mao skating to Rach II:

Lovely performance indeed! :) Thanks for the link, she's one cute ballerina.

I am glad you liked it Plumedragon. Here is a really nice picture of Mao with Lori Nichol and Carolina Kostner posted by rosewood.

rosewood also translated an article from Chinese saying that all Mao's programs would be choreographed by Lori Nichol, though the article didn't say which ones would be new or reused. I believe Liebestraum, Fantasia Impromptu, Csardas and The Nutcracker are the LP programs Lori has choreographed.

This is soooo LOVELY. I like that japanese saying. So true. :agree:

Glad you liked it! Thanks for the kind comments from all. A little secret though...this video was originally "Yulia Lipnitskaya Comeback Trailer" for a while, but I didn't upload it because I didn't like how it turned out :P

As a new season approaches, these are my thoughts on Mao's triple axel.

I think Mao has the most impressive triple axel because of its great height and distance combined with the dynamics of a delayed rotation and rapid acceleration into beautiful tight symmetrical spirals. She also has elegant, erect posture, intricate balletic movements and elaborate staging in her dramatic entry and exit, as her arms and legs veer fluidly into a rhythmic take off then glide gently through a soft landing like a swan landing gently on a placid pond. Mao's placement of the jump is also the most impressive because she uses the entire diagonal width of the rink as a runway with gliding speed and deep edges, as she adds to the suspense by staging the jump against the boards right next to the audience.

btw, as for Mao's triple axel. Here is the article related to her 3A.
"My first time: More on-ice success stories revealed---Hanyu imitates Asada to get triple axel; Abbott lands quad in jump event" etc..

and Gifs
Thanks everyone for the links and Congrats for us reached to 100 pages :points:

Could someone please explain in what competitions (and what dates) Mao should participate in order to qualify at Nationals according this link? http://sp.mainichi.jp/sports/news/20150620k0000m050043000c.html Thank you very much!

According to the news in the link, as Mao didn't attend last national, she is required to go through:
1. Chubu Regional (Sept 25-27, Aichi) --> However, if Mao is invited to Japan Open (Oct 3), she will be given a bye to Chubu Regional
2. Western Sectional (Oct 31-Nov 3, Nagoya) --> This Mao will not attend, as she's invited to CoC, which will be held within a week from Sectional

National will be held in Sapporo from Dec 24 to 27.

She can:
1) compete at the Chubu Sectionals(?) on Sept 25-27 in Nagoya, or
2) go to Japan Open in Saitama (Oct 3)

She gets a bye for the West Japan Regional competition because Cup of China is a week after the Regionals.

(On a totally unrelated note, why does Nats have to be in Sapporo >_<)

That's a really good fancam! Her skating is so fluid and you can really see it there.

Indeed! Soooo floaty and fluid. She's gone across the length of the rink quitely literally in a wink.

But the 2012 fancam also shows just how much Mao's improved. Her skating is so much more powerful now.
