2015-16 Grand Prix assignments

Sorry if this has been discussed, but has the US decided who the third lady at Skate America is going to be? If not, how long do they have to announce? I'm really hoping it's Mirai..

There seems to be a (non-publicized) deadline to announce TBD spots, usually around the first week in September/Labor Day weekend. So I think we'll know all soon.

Oh, maybe that's it! So Kiira withdrew? Who replaced her? Is she finally retiring or injured again?

Lots of speculation that she's retiring, but we will see. I think she's supposed to be holding a press conference on August 27.

It has more to do with ISU competition deadlines on registration which I think is 30 days before the event. So it will probably be post the USA senior B event.

USFS will confirm the TBD spots for Skate America by Sep 15 -- per the USFS press release re 2015 GP assignments.

Nathan's family is from Beijing, Karen's is from Taipei, most likely no, it's a very common surname and it is also my surname. Once in high school, I had 3 other people with the same surname in my class and it's gone up exponentially in university. It's very common.

It would be interesting if there were two Chens as US champions (probably not this season, but potentially next!).

I just want to ship them for school dances.

It would be so cute if they took each other to prom.

Yeah, it would...they both live in the same state, so it's not impossible! Plus, they've gone to junior worlds together twice, so I'm sure they know each other. All we need are a few pictures on Instagram of them from the U.S. classic as proof that they're sort of friends and we're golden

After all this talk about whether they're related, I would simply die laughing if they got married  :laugh2:

I trust that you mean no harm, but this line of conversation is decidedly un-funny to me.

It's as if you are mocking real human beings as caricatures b/c they happen to have the same last name.

I give you the benefit of the doubt that you don't mean to be anything but silly in an innocent way.

But my two cents are that I find it distasteful and disrespectful to the skaters.

FWIW I think it would have been cute for Nathan to have asked Polina last year when she was looking for a date to Prom.

I thought it was cute that Jason Brown took I believe it was Katrina Hacker to her Prom after he had already graduated.

I also don't see how it is mocking to say we would enjoy seeing them enjoy doing normal things that people traditionally share pictures of doing. Plenty of people want to see the prom pics of their co-workers kids too.

My idea of cute is pretty broad. Really for me it has more to do with their status as stars of the future arriving today and that I see a similar tenacity and let's say lack of self-doubt. They are around the same age and stage in their careers and are looking to go down a similar path with similar goals. Yes, I think it would be cute to see them attacking the world together.

I am sorry if you were hurt and I wish i could give you a hug to make you feel better.

But if we are being honest...we would find Nathan and Karen's prom date pics cute regardless of if we recognize the date or not and even if they blurred the dates face out to be respectful...honestly there is very little the skaters could do that we would not find cute.

I think I misunderstood your post, Stitch.
I thought you were jumping on the bandwagon of finding excessive hilarity in the coincidence that Karen and Nathan have the same last name.

If you were making a separate comment about prom and prom pics from any and all skaters, I should not have quoted you. Sorry.
My complaint had nothing to do with prom or prom pics.
I like prom pics :).

WAT I should have totally asked Javier Fernandez to be my prom date then, it was only a few years ago, funnily enough my prom date also had the same last name as me

that was sweet of Jason, I'm sure he would have been a great prom date

Lol prom. I remember that if any guy asked me to prom my senior year, I would say, "No." I don't care if I look like an idiot, but I don't want to do something I don't want to do. And plus I would be the most awkward date EVER EVER EVER.

The girl Jason took to prom last year was one of his close friends and his former housemate - so not the same as a fan asking a skater to go to prom with them.

That's when you start getting things like that tosser who asked Gracie to prom on live TV and totally put her on the spot...

Oh, I remember him...he made a video that she said it was cute on Twitter, and then a TV station invited him to come ask her in person during an interview. She handled it pretty well, but didn't end up going. Must've been really awkward.

Hard to believe the US is sending fewer Dance teams to the GP then the Russians considering the superior depth and quality the US has in that event compared to the Russians.
And the RUS and JPN ladies have superior depth and quality than the USA ladies yet the USA has more ladies entries in the GP. And I say this based on the fact that RUS and JPN has multiply medalist from the Olympics, Worlds and Jr Worlds over the last 4 years while the USA has only 1 medalist.

Except no, the Grand prix is seeded and based on top results, so it is reflective of depth. The American ladies may not have won medals, but there are more of them in the second tier. Hence why when you look at the spots yes Ashley Gracie and Polina have two spots, but beyond that with the exception of hicks and Miller the rest only have one spot.

In contrast, yes the Russians have crazy top skaters like Liza, Yulia, Adelina, pogo, evgenia, but who after that is in their second tier (who isn't skating junior?). The only one that comes to mind is leonova.

If there really are second tier Russian skaters that deserve spots, then the Russian federation should have been sending them to senior B competitions to get points for higher seeding position, in the same way the US federation has done for their second tier skaters like Hannah Miller and Angela Wang.
