Up close, you can see the blues and the golds, but it all gets lost at a distance and just comes across a 'blah' gray

Yeah, I think he should have the costume altered. Didn't one of Machida's earlier versions of his Firebird costume have a lot more feathers than the one he ended up with at Worlds?
