Lol all the people who have seen Yuzuru live said he has deeper edge than on screen and among the fastest too. And some of them are ex skaters, just saying.
And SS is only one of the five among components.

Jin Seo has some nice interpretation on that Singing in the Rain despite the errors, he's selling it. It's what Han Yan has been failing to do in his short.

No idea. Maybe they didn't want another "strong" skater. I'm just grumpy they didn't give it to Brendan. I mean, he was already on the continent.

Complex, yes, but not good necessarily. Often times, with the way people do it these days, adding complexity/transitions to a program directly makes both the choreography and interpretation worse, along with the performance since the skater is focusing too hard on the complexity and not the entire movement and meaning of what they are doing.
But speaking of transitions/complexity, the Orser+Wilson machine is pushing it hardest these days with Hanyu and Fernandez. It's not like the 3Axel is one of Fernandez's best elements, as with Chan, but Fernandez is still doing very difficult setups into it every time. There's no complex choreography happening into Chan's quads, nor his 3Axel. Even the transitions into his Lutzes are easier than what he's done in the past. Yet another example of how Chan's top-class basic skating ability isn't a reflection of how he should score on every other component.
That said, Chan's program this year is better than his Phantom, his Aranjeuz, and definitely his crap Four Seasons retread. Perhaps better than his La Boheme as well, but he never skated that program great so it's hard to say. I don't think he deserved to beat Hanyu here, but it was a great LP performance. Hanyu is trying to skate the most difficult program of all time: 3 Quads, 2 Triple Axels both with a difficult combination later in the program. Lots of transitions. Difficult spins and footwork. Attention to character and music all the way through. The fall on the lutz was a very bad moment for the program but the rest of the skating and presentation was very good (even while making a couple other jump errors) and his added difficulty deserved to claim this match-up.
Hanyu's 4Sal has become so consistent and strong, hope he keeps it up. He should go for it in the SP to remove the possibility of zayaking there; it really seems like his 4Sal is just as consistent for him now as compared to 4Toe anyway. Would probably be smart to starting adding 4Loop to the LP soon as well; it looks so good in practice and he has the other quads quite consistent now. He wouldn't have to change the program layout hardly at all to incorporate it either, just put 4Sal in place of the 4Toe+2Toe he currently attempts and then throw another +3Toe on the end of his 3Loop. 5 points extra base value. Scary. I want to see it.

Re-watching Petrov, his skating is powerful and beautiful. I like his style so much...since last year.

Oh, satine! I really love the things you come out with.
Well, he may not have been the obvious choice to get a GP, and I may not have heard tell of him before, but I was impressed with Kawahara.
Dolensky was good as well. Was surprised when we were told that he has never got into the top 10 at Nationals.
Jin-Seo, well, we already knew he was good! I was actually disappointed with his result in the SP.
Petrov just finished. He was good, but Sasha himself didn't seem happy with it. For that matter, Mishin didn't seem overly thrilled either. Still went into the lead, though

And look at all the gifts on the ice. It's a good job this is highlights we are watching, as it is going to take ages to clear them up!!!
