It's not a question of whether Chan is right or wrong about his competition. Even if he's spot on in his criticism, it's totally inappropriate for him to make such remarks to the press about athletes he's still competing against. You just don't do that. And it makes him look rude, arrogant and even jealous of his fellow competitors.

So why does he persist in doing these things? Lack of self-control? Such a low level of emotional intelligence that he's genuinely clueless as to how he comes across to the public?

I tend to like comments like "Chan is like the Sun and he has made me see my Shadow" -Hanyu.
How poetic and complimentary and true! The most incomprehensible comments were made by Machida, some very obscure phrases and nuances, but they were never negative towards others and had to do with his own motivations and thought processes.
Denis makes some pretty good comments too.
Javi makes interviews FUN.
And Denis and Javi try their best in English. Well done.
This last Press Conference Yuzu tried to speak in English and nearly made it the whole way through. That was pretty funny.

hehe... but you know... it can mean anything... if chan is the sun and it makes hanyu feels like a shadow, it could be seen as false modesty... i mean yuzu is the olympic champion... saying he is just a shadow could be seen as super mean... turning the blade in the wound... "you are the best but i got you there mr Sun .."

I AM NOT SAYING HE MEANT THAT but you see how these beautiful poetic allegoric sentences can work either way... this is actually how sometimes i appreciate when people just say things simply

Spontaneous poetry is rare in sportsmen. I appreciate those who can bring it out on the spot. It has nothing to do with the sport but it's delightfully entertaining. I've really got NO idea what you said there at the beginning. :scard8:

Yuzu's English is fantastic. The interaction with him and Brian at SC made me think he's a native speaker... And then the "Arigatou gozaimasu", reminded me he's Japanese. Lol

i am not saying that yuzuboy had any mean intentions... and since I am not a yuzuhater i am just showing you how things get misinterpreted..... it goes both ways...

as long as poetry is concerned, i prefer Yuzu's blade poetry than his English one

Yes, that attempt to twist Yuzurus words into something bad to justify what Patrick said or to make what he clearly said seem like a mean-spirited interpretation... I don't even know what to say to that. Tell any person who has never heard of either of them about those 2 statements, even with context, and it's so obvious what they would say was the nice and what the bad comment. Ridiculous.

Calling the posts about Chans actual quotes bashing is also pretty That's not bashing by any means, nobody called Patrick a 'jerk' or made any comments about him as a person. It was about those specific lines. But if the only thing you can do to defend your golden boy is to call anything bashing... well, telling, you could say

Um...no. Hanyu is not Versace, D&G or Cavalli. Those brands are tacky bordering on vulgar. Hanyu's skating is not vulgar or tacky.

What the... hardly! I couldn't disagree more! I own pieces from all the designers mentioned, they are interesting, fun, decorative, lively and NEVER boring.
They are more for leisure, the other spectrum is for work and more formal occasions. Like anything in fashion, it is about mix and match and how you wear them. Just because British Hooligans and 'Chav's appear have developed a taste for Burberry, hardly marks Burberry itself trashy at all. What do you think of Vivian Westwood then?

One thing I agree though.. Hanyu's skating is not vulgar or tacky.
