Ahh, only 4 skaters broke 60. Quite an unfortunate skate for some (Lena, Anna, Soyoun) but overall it was okay. Who knows, maybe this leads to Boyang landing 2 quads in the men's SP, hahaha.

I might sound selfish in saying this, but I 'm feeling that I don't care what happens with the entirety of both of his programs as long as he lands the Quad Lutz. Needs compensating after having to see all the Rippon Quad Lutz attempts. :hap85:

Also watching Dance rerun on B.Esp, and Madison being called beautiful. Hoping Twitter doesn't blow up with ....you know what.
Although in his defence he did say his eyes were on Bates.

A little confused with the -2s and -3s from some of the judges on Mao's lutz...aside from the edge, it was a gorgeous jump with great flow & height (not sure if the e was even deserved, could have called it as ! IMO...although I didn't watch the slow mo).

So sad for both Anna and Elena :sad21: hope they pull it together in the free! Come on, ladies!

if the lutz is given the "e" the judges are REQUIRED TO deduct in GOE

And I guess Mao would like to keep doing Lz in compeititons, so to get used to the judging and hopefully change it to a ! and then clean edge one!

But why not test the waters with only one 3Lz in the LP? She can add it to the Sp once the edge becomes better. I would hate to see her lose a world title by some 1-2 points thanks to edge calls.

Mao's program is really great, I loved it but she could sell it better.When she skates to the musics like these, she should skate like a woman.And to me, that's a huge problem for her.I don't know why, maybe because I have watched her since 2007 and she still looks the same girl since then while her main rival Yu-Na Kim evolved from a junior lady to a strong, powerful woman.

I loved Mao's performance: smooth and lyrical with beautiful spins and a scintillating step sequence. Most of all I am glad she was so satisfied and joyous about her performance. She put her heart and soul in it. I also liked Rika's energy and attack. Because of Ashley's and Evgenia's PCS scores last week compared to Mao's, I don't take the scores seriously. I can see that Mao had a couple of tech issues, but 7 points in tech deductions and deflated PCS for Mao's level of skating skills, musicality, interpretation, choreography and seamless transitions is too much.

Evgenia's PCS were very overscored. But Ashley's PCS honestly seemed about right other than TR and a bit of SS. But yeah, I agree with you. Mao was deducted way too much. Her performance was beautiful . Like many people say it's so great to have her back after a season with no veterans at all. In that case, maybe the judges wanted to keep her scores low for the beginning of the season?

I thought both Courtney and Hannah had the best skating skills of the night. Not too soft and washy and not too aggressive. I don't know or care what the judges scored them as and little do I care. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Maybe that inner American in me is finally starting to show

Not a huge fan of Mao's program but it's so nice to have her back and most of it was everything I love about Mao. She's got some things I'd like to see delivered better throughout but who am I to criticize someone like Mao. If she can clean up her tech she will easily walk away with gold after gold with relatively little competition.

Agree. Plus Evgenia's skating is mature and not juniorish at all. She doesn't look like a child among the previously senior ladies.

I think the thought is probably that the best way to try to get it consistent it to get it out there as much as possible.

Really was the phantom O: in everyone's heart/mind on Live feed!

Ironically, I did like the program more there despite the falls. The bandage made it look more like a phantom. I wish the costume had made a comeback.

Probably x2 in each competition esp in early Grand prix where the aim is prob to medal well?

so by GPF - its been through 4 judging calls, and if done again in GPF - 6,
Helps to build up to a goal in worlds?

And I guess doing it once - well it does force you to do better and at least more scrutiny = more observation to improvements?

If they keep hating it then, it would come to a point where she would drop it. But not without tryin it for quite a few times!

That's not true anymore as I have been corrected already on this matter. Only a failed combo in the SP is required to carry negative GOE anymore.
