Paris Shootings and Explosions

Sorry, but venting against people who have absolutely nothing to do with the attacks just because a) people make assumptions about who is involved and b) figure that anyone who happens to share that race or religion is guilty by association is not ok in my book. If you have confirmation that a certain person s involved, then vent away. But not based on assumptions and racist attitudes.

Nobody makes those kind of assumptions when the terrorist is a white Christian male, even though in the US more mass deaths have been caused by white, far right, and Christian extremist than by Muslim terrorists. That double standard is nothing more than racism.

I can understand fear. I would be scared too. But being fearful is different from scapegoating - and particularly scapegoating based on assumptions.

That's a very unfair and not even accurate statement.

Jihadists are on social media elated and Isis has said they were responsible. Fox News has just quoted statements. We know the killers were Muslim jihadis. And they are saying how sweet of all will be American blood. This is part of their"holy war." These monsters killed 3,000 people on American soil. There is no excuse and no reasoning with people who behead their own children.

Well, It's gonna happen, So might as well try and meet it and reason with it as gently as possible,
The slippery slope occurs when you dismiss it out of hand i find.

I disagree. I think if we don't speak up against it is when the slippery slope occurs.

Should we accept all injustice and just say "well it's gonna happen?"

Sorry to be a rotten apple here, but the reality is that a skating event doesnt mean a hill of beans compared to the disaster that just happened. The only logical thing to do out of respect to the dead is to award the medals based on the short program. The ISU can handle any qualification issues anyway it likes....maybe even let the top 8 skaters compete at the final....I am happy with whatever they decide. But if you let the event go on, with spectators or not, individual performances will suffer in different ways with the added stress and THATS not fair to the skaters either.
It is well and good to leave politics out of this forum and what should be done to terrorists everywhere after a period of mourning.
But perhaps our younger members should read up on what happened at the 1972 Summer Olys.....

Really? How do you know I haven't heard people making assumptions about who perpetrated those attacks? How do you know I haven't seen any comments that scapegoat Muslims, Muslim immigrants, and refugees?

And of course we all remember the Pentagon and Shanksville too.

If it is important to you to give a full recap of 9/11, no problem, but please stop addressing your comments to me.

I was merely reinforcing one detail from 9/11 that another member happened to mention.

Yes, and I commented on that comment. I'm not sure what the problem is. I really wasn't trying to argue with you, just adding some context. :)

These terrorists just keep coming and destroying and ruining and ripping apart our peace and security.

I'm not saying you should accept Violent or derogatory treatment to the immigrant community or anybody,
I'm just saying you can also look at people who are fearful of terror as victims too, And instead of dismissing them out of hand
maybe just give them a moment or whatever, You really don't have to though

^The West isn't exactly innocent of minding its own business and staying out of other nations affairs either. We had a big hand in destabilizing the Middle East.

Back on topic, when will TEB make the decision on if events will be held?

Fox News is one of the worst offenders for jumping to conclusions and fanning the racist flames. I do not consider them to be a trustworthy news source. I've been listening to CBC coverage and they keep emphasizing that we do not yet know who is responsible and that no one has claimed responsibility.

And even if it was ISIS, that does not make it ok to scapegoat other Muslims or anyone who happens to be brown

Fair enough and I do admire your ability to see it that way. :)

I guess I'm just sick of hearing a lot of the same racism in the last few months due to the refugee situation. Even when there weren't recent violent attacks

True!!!!! They're an entertainment channel disguised as a new agency.

That's probably true haha,

But to be honset, You see glimpses of that on CNN and MSNBC too, They just disguise it better,
Fox is kinda take no prisoners about it.
