Paris Shootings and Explosions

I know figure skating is not as high profile as soccer (or football, w/e) but they really should cancel this competition. It's still big enough to be a potential target. Very unsettling situation, what's unfolding. Hope everyone in France stays safe, and condolences to those affected.

I do agree with coyote Chris that skating doesn't matter when an entire nation is on lockdown basically. And I was so looking forward to it and seeing so many programs. God bless all those who are traumatized tonight.

And that includes these very young skaters whom we all love and are thankful they are safe in Bourdeaux.

French carrier Air France said on Saturday that it will maintain all flights to and from France after attacks in Paris prompted the government to decree a state of emergency and reinforce border controls.

"Following the events in Paris on Nov.13, Air France confirms that all its upcoming flights to/from France is maintained," the company said in a statement.

It said delays are to be expected due to the reinforcement of border controls by authorities.

That's good news. I heard from the guardian live news that they think they've got all the attackers. That may help relax things.

Given that the competition is being held a few hours from Paris, and the situation seems to be under control there now, I'd imagine the competition will continue as planned. I hope that many skaters can give inspiring performances that will bring comfort and hope to the French people.

I woke up and there's this news, right now I don't even have heart to watch anything from TEB.

It's early morning in finland now and just about to go home from work.
Did last surfing on internet and see this news.
I't was shock to see this happening..........

I'm praying that Saturday's events at TEB will be cancelled. The last thing I want is all our skaters at a large sporting venue when most other major activities are being cancelled across France. Aren't Mae and Laurine from Paris, too? I hope all their friends and family are safe & sound at home.

If it continues, it will be exceptionally well-guarded, better than it might otherwise be. and if it is cancelled, do you think the standings from the short program would go down as the results? I'm sure Liza and Patrick (not to mention Max) would be pretty upset abt their short results sticking!

There hasn't been any indication that there's any threat to this venue, Nor to any other in Bordeaux,
There's no reason to fear for anyone's safety right now,
If there will be a cancelation it will probably be out of respect for the fallen

It'll probably help relax things at least a little, but there's still the possibility that more attacks were planned, or that copycat lone wolves might carry out additional attacks. But there will also be a much stronger military and police presence to help people feel safer

I don't think they should cancel the event, definitely the gala, but make the event a little faster to ensure the safety. Also, Bordeaux is quite a few hours from Paris...

So can someone explain to me how long the attacks took? I heard about 18 people dying earlier today, didn't really get a chance to look into it but now they are saying over 150 are dead?

Unfortunately, I don't think there was much indication about threats to the venues that were already targeted so far. :(

The amount of viable targets on Saturday will probably be slim, with the high alertness in the area and so many events already cancelled.

It's now reported on the CBC that the number is over 100. I hope and pray the skaters come to no harm. My condolences to the people of Paris:cry:

What a scary world we live in......... my heart goes out to those who've lost their beloved ones....may they rest in peace....

No, the disturbing thing is that they look like normal people. And, tbh, I find your comment silly. If you 'know one when you see one', the police could round all terrorists and criminals up tomorrow. :palmf:

Not sure if you are serious or not but the police are already doing that in the background. They monitor you, and wait and wait and then make arrest with enough evidences. The problem is they cannot count all the terrorists and criminals up tomorrow because you round them up for what? You look suspicious doesn't mean you have committed crime. TBH, I find your comment extreme naive and borderline Minority Report. You arrest people based on what they intend to do in the future? :) LOL. OK.
Most first world countries do not work this way.

A criminal looks like anyone on the street. With your level of eyesight, you should sign up for the police/CIA.

Haha, LOL. How do you think police stop people on the street? By looking at suspicious people. I'm not sure if you are serious but that's how it works most of them time. By looking!
