2015-16 State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating

I am looking forward to Max vs. Nathan at Talinn next week. They are our only US men who land quads pretty consistently yet are still developing their artistry.

I think Max might take this round based on his SA level of skating (which will hopefully repeat at TEB this weekend) but I think it will be close if Nathan hits all his jumps.

I'm looking forward to it to! Looking at the lineup, they should be 1-2 here, with the potential for Aliev and Kolyada to play spoilers. Personally, I find Max and Nathan appear fairly equal PCS-wise to my eyes, but Max will receive higher PCS for being a veteran senior and SA champion/possibly TEB medalist. If both skate clean, Max will win for sure. That said, Nathan winning will be quite an upset, though I'm expecting Max to win. I hope Nathan's able to bring his JGP level of skating to keep the result close.

Sad that Tim Dolensky won't get a chance to skate here. :sad21:

Seems like so many 'last minute' changes with Senior B events. The 'race' for points, which impact start orders for grand prix events and even making the final 2 groups at Championship events, is such a factor. And yet, there are so many skaters who I am sure would really appreciate a shot at an international event before US Nationals. Not an easy situation, but seems still ... seems so many last minute changes that it's kind of a shame for organizers and alternates. It seems at least.

While I do sincerely hope for Nathan's sake that he's not injured, if this is just a strategic withdrawal I'll be really cranky for Tim because they've done it so late that he can't replace him.

I mean, if you're going to do a strategic withdrawal, at least have the common courtesy to do it early enough that a sub can take your place.

Jumps were absolutely flawless. 4S-3T, massive 3A, effortless 3Lz. Spins were okay, FSSp was a little wild but he dragged it back.

Good for Max! I'm sure the past few days have been tough on him. Great to see him displaying the competitive grit that Sandra Bezic so much admires in him.

Oh wow, he's doing 4t in the SP now? And as his combo? This is exciting, must mean he's getting more comfortable with that jump. I wonder if he's planning on upgrading to a 2 quad SP and 3 quad FS for Nationals (or GPF if he makes it) and wanted to give the 4t a test run here? If he starts doing this he will be very dangerous indeed. Nice job!

Max did a 4S-3T.

Great to see the jumps back in form. He's leaving points on the table for everything else, both in bv and goe.

PCS solidly in 37-38 range (though closer to 39 here).

I think karne was simply too excited to notice her typo.

Great to see Max coming back so strong after TEB.

In addition to getting PBs for SP and for SP TES, Max exceeded his SP PCS at Skate America by a hair.

Icing on the cake is that Phillip Mills was there to witness Max's PBs. Plus it means additional opportunities for Phillip to see both programs again in person and help Max work on PCS.
