Yulia Lipnitskaya

Hi! I don't post so much here, but I'm a fan of Yulia and I wish her well in what ever way she decides to go. I have a question...is it true that Eteri teaches a jump technique that is short-term and not suited to a changing body? And is this a possible reason for Yulia to seek to change coaches?

I think she knows that her chances of making the euros/worlds team are not great, not impossible either but, changing right now is better than waiting another six months to do it. Especially if this is what she really wants.

Wishing her the best!:hap10:

I think speaking *only* strategically and ignoring any interpersonal issues or emotional considerations, it's always a bit of a risky move to change coaches mid-season, and doing so tends to create a series of predictable issues through the rest of the season. (I do know and agree there are exceptions, but I am speaking broadly). However, in real life, you can't ignore what you feel is right and any interpersonal or emotional issues that come up. So basically I agree that if this is what she really wants, her happiness and emotional well being is most important. Even if in a total worst case scenario this messes up the rest of her season a bit, this isn't an important year in the scheme of things, and this way she'll have 6 more months of working with him under her belt before serious preparation for next season starts which can be valuable in its own right.

I really do hope this will help her to move in a new, positive direction, not just with her skating, but also personally :agree:

Well, I think It would be more risky if she had more at stake, to be honest. It's not that she doesn't have chances of getting a medal until the end of season, but I do think she knows she doesn't have much of a chance against the GP winners at the moment - even if FS is a surprise. It gives her more of an edge for the next season, though. More time working with another coach and more time for her to work out the issues.

Here's hoping for the best, obviously.

Who trains with Urmanov except Yulia? Don't remember anyone. I'm not sure how I feel right now.

Deniss Vasiljevs is his only current senior level student that I know of. He's previously coached Sergei Voronov, Nikol Gosviani, and Polina Agafonova. I can't think of any others off the top of my head. He may also have coached Nodari Maisuradze and partners???

Deniss is still a junior. Urmanov used to coach Zhan Bush and Gordei Gorshkov too.

Oh my, not very impressive list of students. We'll see how it will turn out, I guess it can't be worse than last season.

I am in shock.

I hope Julia is going to be OK, and everything works out for the better.

This may explain why Eteri wasn't at TEB with Yulia.

(There could be any number of reasons why Eteri wasn't at TEB -- I just think it's quite a coincidence that several people were asking why Eteri wasn't with Yulia at TEB, and a few days later, we hear news of the coaching change.)

On the other hand when Julia first went to Etri, Etri was an absolute nobody- she had never had a truly successful student, and she hadn't been a particularly successful skater herself. It's also clear Urmanov will have a lot of time to devote to her and she'll probably get a lot more time and attention from him than she's currently able to get in Etri's group.

Julia is essentially an adult now and I'm sure she didn't make this decision lightly. We have to trust that she has thought this through and knows what she'd doing.

Urmanov is a good jump coach so I'm sure that's why she looked to him. I hope it works out well for her & I hope people will not fabricate conspiracy theories or trash Eteri's team for this decision. They had a good run, and people have to make hard choices sometimes.

I have the same reaction. But... again this year she was unable to break the pattern of good SP followed by poor FS, good practice followed by poor performance, and she "doesn't know why." I suspect she and Eteri agreed on this. Eteri may have steered her toward this change and this coach. She has often complained about insufficient ice time and Eteri being unavailable. A coach with fewer skaters makes sense.

Also, as i understood from interview, her mother didnt have a good relationship with Eteri... And while Yulia is a grown up, yes, she is still pretty young and this would most likely add tons of pressure on her.
