A fair way to pick GPF finalists?

Things are basically unfolding as normal. The ISU doesn't award "temporary" WS points. G/P got their 360 WS points because they came in 2nd at TEB, so they also got their 13 GPF qualifying points…

This seems so straightforward to me.

And yet…if this is really how the ISU is thinking, there would be no reason not to list the Bompard winners, their placement points and their tie-breaker statuses on the continuing tabulations. This would not compromise the ISU's options to add more places afterward if they wanted to, and it would provide skaters with the "normal" information about how they stand that they have at this point every year.

They know they have 24 pts. for their 3rd place at SA and 2nd place at TEB ...

The cancellation of TEB is an unprecedented circumstance.
One could just as easily say, "GPs are not cancelled on the morning of the free skates and FD." But in the case of 2015 TEB, the free skates and FD were cancelled. (Against the wishes of the ISU, but they were.)
All bets are off, IMO.

The entire situation is not normal, and we do not know whether things are unfolding as normal.
It is possible that your crystal ball will turn out to be accurate. It is possible that your crystal ball will turn out to be inaccurate.

How does anyone "know" that G/P received 13 ranking points from TEB? As Mathman said, the usual chart does not show any ranking points for TEB.

ETA, it is looking increasingly plausible to me that NHK will be completed before the ISU goes on the record re any decisions about the GP qualifying in light of the TEB cancellation. (But I do not claim to "know". All bets are off.)

What is making me nervous is that it's already Monday mid-afternoon in Europe and they haven't updated the Rostelecom participants either...

.... Since there's been no report of a proposal (or need) to change how the current tie-breakers work ....

Not true.

Peter Krick of the ISU did say something (I'm paraphrasing) about needing to change how the GP ranking tiebreakers would work -- as part of his proposal that the ISU should go by the TEB SP/SD results.

Krick said so in his remarks at Didier's announcement that TEB would be cancelled. Krick's remarks can be heard in The Blade Boys video of the announcement at TEB on Nov 14.

ETA:

Also ... we are in the dark as to whether federations besides Russia have made their own proposals. The absence of press reports regarding proposals from other federations does not rule out the possibility of other proposals.

Of course, we do not know whether the ISU has accepted any or all of Krick's proposal.
Just sayin' that contrary to your post, at least one proposal has mentioned the possibility of changing the tiebreakers.

IMHO this is all the more reason why the ISU should be trying to guide the process back to normalcy as smoothly and painlessly as possible.

This "I know a secret and I'm not going to tell you" mindset will only bring skating fans to the point where they say, "I don't care any more who skates in the GP Final or if they even have one." (I reached this point about ten minutes ago. )

Edited to add: Fortunately I retained just enough residual interest to make this post. :)

"Back" to "the new normal," whatever the ISU decides it will be. ["The new normal" for just this one season, I mean.]

My previous post was making a separate point. After Election Day 2000, many Americans believed that Gore had a strong claim to winning the presidency. But ... ;)

ISU Grand prix standings pages updated - Gracie given 15 points for TEB; page is labeled Adjusted Calculations. Seems as if TEB SP used across the board for awarding of placement points

So SP's count as the final score and any substitutes who were at TEB will be invited to skates. Substitutes being those who finished 7-9 on the GP. Is this correct?

edit: Only 7th place substitute will be and invited to skate GPF and that is only if they were at TEB.

Yes, no news that they will add an extra skater (s) to the final.

Is it just me or did the thread that is specifically about this disappear?? Where did it go?

Ah, I missed that completely. Well, they followed through on that, going from 7 rounds of tiebreaks to 4, and eliminating the ones that involved Total Scores. So, I can follow the logic in doing that.
