I doubt the latter will ever happen. You only have to look at the fight Max has to put up to be competitive, the lower PCS for Boyang (who really wasn't all that bad)...the snobby "artist" pushers are the ones who are ruling the roost at the moment. Look at Skate America and Skate Canada - the scoring was worse and more ridiculous at Skate Canada, but that was acceptable because Hanyu and Chan are "artists", but Max's victory at Skate America is completely unacceptable and a scandal to these people even though he was almost spotless and technically extremely difficult.
For me, this is a sport. It will always be a sport. Technical advancement is required and should be encouraged - but as safely as possible. I worry about Boyang Jin because of his heavy landings and slight frame. There will always be some element of risk, and that is something that figure skaters accept the moment they set blade to ice. You can hurt yourself in fifty million ways in this sport - I've done a lot of them myself - and hurting yourself off a jump is only a small part of that.
I don't think we disagree that much. I certainly like Max's athleticism, and I like it more this year because I think *Max* is enjoying himself more this year. And, I will say this very quietly and hide it in this thread because I am too cowardly to take it elsewhere, I don't get why Yuzu is considered such a paragon of artistry. He seems like a very pleasant young man, and I like his skating sometimes, but sometimes ....(whispering) I just don't get it. Patrick, I need to see more.
I don't think everyone should be Josh, Jason or Misha; that would be boring.
But I do feel like Jin and certain other boy-kings are sacrificing expression for jumps, and that feeling stops me from enjoying their skating. God knows, ice is slippery, and hard, you can hurt yourself falling on a spin. Risk I don't mind. I don't like to see it "over-rewarded". But definitions of over-reward will, I know, vary....

Good Luck Josh!" or "We will miss you!
