Joshua Farris

I doubt the latter will ever happen. You only have to look at the fight Max has to put up to be competitive, the lower PCS for Boyang (who really wasn't all that bad)...the snobby "artist" pushers are the ones who are ruling the roost at the moment. Look at Skate America and Skate Canada - the scoring was worse and more ridiculous at Skate Canada, but that was acceptable because Hanyu and Chan are "artists", but Max's victory at Skate America is completely unacceptable and a scandal to these people even though he was almost spotless and technically extremely difficult.

For me, this is a sport. It will always be a sport. Technical advancement is required and should be encouraged - but as safely as possible. I worry about Boyang Jin because of his heavy landings and slight frame. There will always be some element of risk, and that is something that figure skaters accept the moment they set blade to ice. You can hurt yourself in fifty million ways in this sport - I've done a lot of them myself - and hurting yourself off a jump is only a small part of that.

I don't think we disagree that much. I certainly like Max's athleticism, and I like it more this year because I think *Max* is enjoying himself more this year. And, I will say this very quietly and hide it in this thread because I am too cowardly to take it elsewhere, I don't get why Yuzu is considered such a paragon of artistry. He seems like a very pleasant young man, and I like his skating sometimes, but sometimes ....(whispering) I just don't get it. Patrick, I need to see more.

I don't think everyone should be Josh, Jason or Misha; that would be boring. :no:But I do feel like Jin and certain other boy-kings are sacrificing expression for jumps, and that feeling stops me from enjoying their skating. God knows, ice is slippery, and hard, you can hurt yourself falling on a spin. Risk I don't mind. I don't like to see it "over-rewarded". But definitions of over-reward will, I know, vary....

Maybe because his skating is smooth and he makes those difficult jumps (with or without those insane entries) look so effortless, without sacrificing the presentation. It's almost like Roger Federer in tennis, and how he pulls off reality defying shots, almost without breaking a sweat.

Having said that, these days, considering how much Hanyu is trying to push himself and his program, it does get a bit difficult to watch. I used to think I would never see a day when he would pop an Axel or a Quad Toe jump considering their level of solidity around Sochi period, but I guess it's for the best when guys like Boyang start to pop up into the field, and lord knows how many future surprises there are yet to come.

Surprised nobody posted this yet? https://www.instagram.com/p/97d3ZxJx0y/?taken-by=joejohnsonice

Joe and Josh went to a Rob Thomas concert last night, so it looks like Josh is well enough to attend concerts so that's a good sign he's recovering.

Checking that account, I am more distracted by this.... https://instagram.com/p/xhydWPpx_q/

Can't believe these things really exist. Almost mind boggling as the large spider picture on Chris Hemsworth's page (not posting that pic-link here, just in case anyone has an arachnophobia)

Well, the pendulum has swung, maybe. Remember that it was the snobby "jump" pushers who raised a hue and cry after Lysacek gloriously won the Vancouver Olympics ... to the point where the rules were immediately changed to reward more rotations at the expense of quality of skating, performance values, and choreography.

Personally, I love the men's programs and love beautiful jumps as much as anyone. But I cringe at all the falls, the splat fests that the competitions have become. I hate to see so many of the skaters injured; but also, the falls impair my enjoyment. I've noticed that my eyes close involuntarily for a split second every time a skater takes a bad fall.

Bravo for Josh for being brave enough to send this tweet. I absolutely love his beautiful, pure skating, his artistry, his lovely personality, his quiet thoughtfulness.

Congratulations to Joe and Karina!

I'm not going to lie, though, when I saw Joshua's thread on the front page of the Fan Fest, my heartrate accelerated, thinking maybe we finally had news...oh Josh!

Ditto! I respect Josh's quiet demeanor, and privacy, but radio silence just leads to more speculation. Oh well.....congrats to his rinkmates!

Sorta surprised by this, but I was glad that Josh's "Give Me Love" SP made one of Dave Lease's moments of 2015 in TSL today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMQ0wrr1v3A. - It is at the 23:00 mark.

I share Dave's feelings that I have also missed his skating this fall. But I will wait until we get a statement (or even tweet) from Josh on how he is doing. Until then, I guess that is what YouTube/icenetwork videos are for. :)

hi ,HI,everyone I was just wondering about joshs condition lately is he getting any better.

No news from Josh or Team Josh.

Until we hear from them, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed for him and hope for the best.

I would like to add, there are plenty of people who love to gossip, but the ONLY source you should take as true is Josh, Christy, or Damon. No-one else.

I prefer to wait until 1) we here from Josh or his team, or 2) the practice groups are officially published. It should take at most a whopping week and a half from now. Then we can post for a fact "YAY! Good Luck Josh!" or "We will miss you! :( Get well soon Josh!"

Josh is typically super silent on Twitter/Instagram before Nationals so his non tweets to this point aren't unusual. But I can see why skating fans would wish that they would hear some news from his camp - especially since he/Christy Krall were willing to quickly announce his GP withdrawals in September.

I agree. Until I hear otherwise from a proper source, I will believe he is skating there.
