Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Honestly, I`m so done with this subject. For some people Elena will always be heavy, lazy and only looking for a husband, regardless how much she trains or states that she is focussing on skating for the next few years. You can believe what you want, I would just ask these people to leave it out of this thread, because, as you may have noted, this is a fan thread for Elena and Ruslan.

Anyway, regarding new programs for Elena and Ruslan, I think someone in here has already mentioned that E lucevan le stelle from Puccini`s Tosca could be a good fit. I like this instrumental version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1CtXMLLtRU

I watched Belbin/Agosto`s and Navka/Kostomarov`s FDs to Tosca and neither of them were really good, but I think this could be a good vehicle for Elena and Ruslan.

Excatly. And this part of forum rule is: "Please keep posts positive and related to the skater/team accordingly". Some users either can't read or read with understanding, apparently.

People on this thread were worrying about Elena's weight being too low, but this was based on selfies. Women are known to post the most flattering pictures of themselves on social media. Just saying that people shouldn't look for the truth about someone's physique based only on a selfie. Anyone reading into my previous post that I think Elena is the "selfies master's of evil" is reading in their own prejudices.

Basically - if Elena were to look too thin in other people's candids, I might be concerned...but if she only looks too thin in pictures that she took of herself, I'd just chalk it up to the rules of Selfie Club. Since she hasn't looked too thin in any photographer's photos all season long, I'd say there's no reason to be concerned about her weight.

You know, if the posts that people here are reacting to had been worded positively, I don't think they'd raise half as much annoyance. But things like "Elena posted some pictures of herself looking lovely and slim, which did not match the reality" are really out of place in this thread. The intentions behind it may be harmless, but posts worded like that rub me the wrong way, and judging by the reactions of others, I am far from being the only one.
Anyhow, I'm done with discussing Elena's appearance. I've never had a problem with it, no matter how she looked and looks, and same for Ruslan. If they're in good health and able to perform their routines, that's all I need to hear to be happy for them. :)
And Marta25, I loved your suggestion of Tosca for IZ. :agree:

Posting the most flattering pictures of yourself on social media (by the way men do that too, not just women) and photoshoping them are two different things. Now, I don't know if she photoshopes them or not and neither does any of us since we are not there with her and there is no obvious photoshop sign in those picture. So stating that she did photoshoped them like it is a fact is bull. Personally, I don't think that picture was flattering at all because I don't think being so thin is a good thing let alone look beautiful, but that's just my opinion. I do agree with you that someone physiques can't be properly judged based on pictures only, not just selfie, or even from the tv.
We were discussing about this on Stolbova&Klimov's topic sometime ago actually because if you see them live, in person, you can see that she is much more tiny than she might look in the photos or tv and Fedor is bigger. It depends from many thing. If for example a camera on tv takes you from above you would look shorter, smaller. If it takes you from below you will look taller etc.etc. I'm not saying it's completely different because it's not like a big person would ever look small and viceversa, but the perception you get from pictures and tv it's never 100& the reality. Having said that the point here is that Elena's weight have been discussed to death, in this topic from all places, and it is disgusting becuase the usual suspects wants to instill the idea that the woman has a problem with her weight when it is not so.

Why do we give these people the time of day? I've spent a good bit of this morning looking at the performances of some of the great ice dancers, and I keep on coming back to the same conclusion: Lena Ilinykh will always be remembered as one of the greats of all time.

I think she wil always remembered as one of the greatest talents Russian ice dance had, at least since the 90s. It`s just that for me personally it would be so frustrating if she and Ruslan would never win anything big. But from Elena`s tweets and their New Year`s messages to each other, it sounds like they have no intention to give up and are ready to fight.

I agree. These people are not worth it. Elena is fantastic and I don't think Ruslan gets enough credit. Together they are beautiful dancers and I think they are coming out with a bang next year!

Averbuck's comments about them are spot on. Hoping they also have a very rewarding season next year.

Note to self; even though Ilia makes mention of other dance pairs in this article, I'm not particularly interested in those comments. Thus if trolls would like to discuss these other pairs I will gladly direct them to their fan threads. :laugh2:

I agree with his comments. He is of course being positive about all the pairs. We'll just have to wait and see how things go next year. If you had asked me at the end of last season how this season would turn out, the current scenario is not what I would have predicted. So, I am cautiously positive about next year. The best thing they can do is work hard and we'll see.

Here is a compilation of practice vids posted on IZ`s vk group: https://vimeo.com/152053180?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0

I really like the exit of that first lift, I wonder why they didn`t keep it. I think this is the kind of "wow" moment they need to get higher GOE.

I think it's a bit hard to land like that on ice and if I'm not mistaken it's quite similar to V&M lift exit in Carmen. I'm not sure though. I'm just going by memory.

I'd need to see the full lift on the ice, but I think, that even though it looks really cool, it might not count for the new exit requirement to get level 4. And there is always the issue with timing - Ruslan needs to be on one foot for 3 seconds, plus the entry, getting set into position and then the exit, all within 6 seconds. I hope next season they move away from the one foot lifts - he has a really strong spreadeagle they should be using instead for the difficult lifting position in the straight line or curve lifts.

I agree. I also would like them to replace their rotational lift with a stationary, since they seem to have problems to gain speed with the rotational. They could do a rotational lift for their choreographic element, where they don`t have to worry about finding positions that will get them level 4.
