2016 US Nationals Senior Ladies SP

Golly, it would have been nice if my Anjelah Johnson tickets were for tonight. Watch the men nail it tomorrow, lol, and I miss it, ha.

I hope you're right. I'll need a pick me up after this less than stellar event.

I'm always hoping that a not-so-great Nationals will fire up whomever makes the team to do AMAZING at Worlds buuuut I'll just wait and see with no expectations.

yes!....the fact that they screwed up here, may actually fire them up to finish the season on a high note at worlds.

Gracie was majorly overscored here. I don't understand 2nd place for that.

They have to keep her in contention for the podium. With Worlds being in Boston, despite the fact that Gracie can be a head case she is alway be considered a medal threat until she tanks. The US is sending Gracie, Ashley and Polina to Worlds. That is their best team right now.

To recap: Ashley and Gracie both mess up one major element-Ashley on you'd most expect and Gracie on what you'd never expect-Polina is brilliant and totally shuts down da haterz, Tyler is brilliant and proves I have good taste in surprise medalist picks :p, Mirai and Mariah were good, Courtney and Karen fall over and die , and if I didn't already have IN this would've been a waste of money.

But on a positive note, IN didn't quit on me at all! :cheer:

I'm jealous, Layback11. IN was worse for me than for Pairs/Juniors; so bad that I can't actually say I saw the competition- more like still pictures and intermittent audio. SO bad :(

So glad I watched tonight! I was actually thinking about skipping on this event since I wasn't feeling any excitement for U.S. Nats this year... but WOW!

Nice to see a surprise leader here. Congrats Polina!

And Tyler in the top 3 makes my week! :clapper: Great job girl!!!!

Wow, I would have had Angela Wang at least one or two spots higher. And lets be honest folks, Mirai skated better than both Ashley and Gracie, right? Maybe it was Polina's high score that had Ashley and Gracie having flashback memories of the GPF and the Russian youngins. My gosh! Probably the judges should have not gone so high, and kept Polina around 68 or so, right?

Clearly, though U.S. fed is still giving Gracie a chance by putting her ahead of Tyler Pierce who also skated better than Ashley and Gracie and should be in second behind Polina. It is obviously neck-and-neck between 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places, and among some of the other scores as well. This is Polina's to lose though, which is possible to happen since her free program is not really a stand-out. But with her grit, will she tough it out to win? Ash too has got to claw her way back into top three.

Showdown in the free skate!

 to the poster who advised to get out of Chrome and use another browser, which cleared up the freezing and blurriness of my IN feed.

Polina's 3T looked UR to me but I need HD footage. 70+ still seems too high.

It's probably due to Gracie other elements having a higher BV than Ashley. Ashley's spins are weak. Her jumps doesn't have the same speed/flow out as Gracie's, etc.

She shouldn't be getting her usual GOEs with that performance and there definitely should have been at least a ! for that flip. I don't think she deserves to be ahead if Mirai tbh.

Mirai has a chance to medal and will, I believe. Ashley and Gracie must at least have their confidence dented after their performances.

My heart just about jumped out of my chest when Gracie missed that lutz. I feel bad for her, honestly, she's just not good at competing and it's a shame because she is really a great skater. Proud of her that she kept the performance going (it's obvious she really likes this short, she always manages to keep her energy up even with big mistakes which she's usually terrible at) but wish she could just seize the moment! Arghhh.

Overall that was a pretty depressing event. Congratulations to Polina who was the only one to show up tonight. I love her short, wish her long was even half as good. If she goes clean, did she win this? Can Ashley or Gracie realistically catch her? She's got a pretty substantial lead.

The horror for the USFSA is if it's Polina, Tyler and Mirai on the podium. What will they do then?
