The news of Nathan's injury and not being able to compete at Worlds jut breaks my heart. I also hate that we have ANOTHER name to #TeamUSMenInfirmary.
I really hope that was USFS focus in not selecting Jason to even be an alternate for the World's team. I think that given that we know that they are healthy for now (do we need to light candles?), this is realistically the best U.S. men's team to Boston.
That is good news. I wonder if Jason would be able to do any other of the Stars on Ice tour shows. I guess it would depend on whether he is even invited.
This is a really good sign! I believe the Garden of the Gods has a lot of dramatic elevation changes. It's probably a good way to cross train.
Even though the patriotic American in me is so excited for Worlds being in my country, I think it will be tough for the U.S. men to keep their three spots for Helsinki. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that the USFS is focus on skater's health and wanting Jason (and Josh and Nathan) to fully recover so that, if we only have two men at 2017 Worlds, the best of Max, Jason, Josh, and Nathan can go there, healthy and better than ever and get our 3rd spot for the 2018 Olympics.
I imagine what USFS thinks is (1) that it hopes that both Jason and Nathan will have successful and complete recoveries ; (2) that it looks forward to having both Jason and Nathan back in great shape for next season ; and (3) that at this point, Adam, Max, and Grant are the best team for Worlds .

I'm really sorry for Nathan, and I hope he heals well. But I have to echo the sentiment that there's a bit of irony, because now we have people crying out why Jason wasn't 1st alternate to help keep the 3rd spot, while beforehand everybody was just complaining about the sheer possibility of him being at worlds.
And... I'm sorry but I really can't see the US keeping their 3 spots (though I'll be rooting for that). And I don't mean that to be harsh to any of Max, Adam or Grant, who all deserve their world spots and are a lovely team to sent overall. But if the men skate anything like they did in Barcelona, we have an amazing men's field with so much talent, there's no shame in not managing a top 6 placement. It's not impossible, because a lot can happen on slippery ice, but it is a very, very tall order for any team IMO to keep or get the 3rd spot at worlds (probably except Japan, but who knows).
But so happy with the positive Jason news! Thanks for posting![]()
