Joshua Farris

Hopefully that's not the case but if it is maybe one of his house mates or friends will let him know or he will be able to see it the next time he is able to.

With P&C using "to build a home" for part of their FD it reminded me of the only time I've seen Josh live which was SOI San Diego right after the olympics. It was of course awesome :cheer2: (hopefully my memory is right and it is the same song)

Alas! I just released I can't tweet about it because he follows me, and on the off chance he's reading his Twitter, I don't want to spoil the surprise.

I saw Patrick reblogged your post though, and loves the idea.

Now, about time. IIRC, the men's FS was early evening my time here - which means it would be at a terrible hour for you guys (if my rough maths is approximate). So, it may well be that we will have to come up with another time.

Another thing to consider: We have no idea how well he is doing - although from his last update on his birthday he said he is continuing to get better. I know last summer/fall USFS or maybe Christy Krall said that a full recovery was expected, although that was months ago. Even Papadakis, who won Europeans in ice dance with Cizeron this weekend, was mentioned in an article to still be dealing with headaches. I'm assuming the decision was made to make sure Josh is 100.000000000% healed before even returning to the ice. Hopefully, he is somewhere in the later stages, but we don't know.

I bring this up because Josh may still be limited in how much TV, computer, & phone screen time he can handle in a day. It may because either cause his brain still can't handle it () or it's bad for his progress in whatever therapy or rest he is doing. He may not see all of this campaign or any of it at all.

Re: timing- since we're all so spread out, should we not even bother with trying to synchronize it? If we just scatter it throughout the day, it may be less likely to trigger a trending algorithm but it would be a consistent flow of positive tweets. IIRC, the men's FS last year was around 2 AM for me (Mountain Time in the US), so... yeah.

Also, as far as Josh actually noticing it, I'm told someone may have a way to ensure he does, but I don't know anything else on that score. I'm fairly certain someone would pick up on it- I did notify TSL on social media PM in the hopes they'd retweet stuff or cover the trend as a "news" story.

I'm pretty sure even if Josh doesn't or can't see it right away, someone else will pick up on it. I do hope that TSL will give recovery updates as they know about them. They may have to make it a regular segment with the long list of U.S. men that are recovering from injury right now. :(

I also think (or hope) that Josh is in pretty good shape right now that he can handle looking at his twitter on a laptop or phone every once in a awhile. He went to a concert with Joe Johnson back in the fall and to a send off party for Nationals a couple of weeks ago. I'm really hoping that this is in the final stages they have been being extra cautious before letting Josh back on the ice.

We still have two weeks to figure out the best way to do this on our end. Another thing we can use is Buffer - you set up a tweet (or tweets) and it will tweet for you at a certain time you tell it to: https://buffer.com/.

I spoke to some coaches, and to his coach Damon during Nationals, and I learned that: the first month of his injury he was locked in a dark room with his head spinning. He is doing much better. He was actually coaching all the skaters of Damon's team during Nationasl back in Colorado Springs. Damon looked surprise that I was even questioning his return on ice. He sounded very positive and very optimistic!

Thankyou so much for your report, georgia! A bright and happy way to start my day

(Also the concept of coach Joshua is adorable. )

This is good news! I'm glad that Josh can at least make some money right now - I wonder if he will lose this Team "B" funding from USFS next season. I am less worried about Jason because he at least competed some this season and it seems that he could perform in some shows this summer.

Not surprised that Josh was having so many problem in the early stages - it actually confirms my fear when I hear of NFL players who return to practice/play so quickly after a concussion. And it's not uncommon for players to have suffered 8-10+ concussions. :(

Maybe I am missing something here, but I am cautiously happy about Damon's apparent optimism. I hope it means that he is going to make a full recovery, but how likely is it that a coach would say at Nationals anything about a skater's career being finished or not back to where he was?

Not to mention what it must look like to see him coach a lesson with Lukas.

His demeanor is probably similar to Damon's - who comes across as very calm though strict. It says a lot about Josh and Damon's relationship as well as Josh's potential abilities in a coaching career. But I though Josh was interested in being an architect or something after his skating career is over.

Unfortunately, I think that he will. Pretty sure you have to have a decent result at Nationals and be an active member of Team USA to get it and right now he's neither. But fortunately, he's still Joshua, so I'm sure there'll be plenty of shows knocking on his door.

Good challenge for him, since Lukas is a clocky!

Thankyou so much for your report, georgia! Really, you have no idea how happy it made me

If I understand the rules correctly:

Next season Josh will receive Team C funding, b/c he had earned Team B funding for this season.

I do think it's reasonable to hope that Josh will have show opportunities, if he wants them.

To those organizing the good wishes for Josh, I apologize for mentioning Thunderclap at all. In hindsight, I should not have done so without knowing more about it and more about your vision -- which seems to be in good shape :) without it.

That's not so bad, I guess. But right now, the focus is probably getting back on the ice and getting back his skills as quickly and as healthy as possible. We have no idea about what he is able to do, but I also worry about his fitness. Hopefully he is able to do some sort of cardio/weights/pilates/yoga.

What is a "clocky"? I believe Latvia has two spots for Europeans next year, correct? I would love to see Lukas be able to compete there.

clocky = shorthand for "clockwise", as in a clockwise turner. Lukas jumps in the opposite direction from Josh

I hope Lukas will make Team Latvia for Euros next year too!

That could also be a good idea. I live in Europe and not the US, and I'm sure karne and me aren't the only ones with a very different time zone from Josh.

This is great to hear, thank you so much for telling us! :thank:

So wonderful to hear this! Thanks for the report!

As far as the Feb. 13 event goes, we should figure out how to time everything. Do we want to choose a specific window, say of one or two hours, and use tech like Buffer to synchronize? Or do we want to spread it out more? Also, does anyone want to keep an eye on Tumblr to screenshot/link posts from there to Twitter?

I say we choose a 2-3 hour window - when would people here think there is an ideal time of the day to do it?

I didn't see this posted earlier in this thread yet, but I'm glad to see that icenetwork is doing a series on concussions in figure skating. Here is the first article in the series, with mentions of Joshua: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2016/02/02/163386260.

There is no new information in the article about Joshua, it only says that: 1) He missed this entire season due to the concussion, and 2) We don't know when he will return to full training.

I'm really, really, happy that icenetwork is doing a series on this important topic. Maybe in the next articles in the series, we will get more (hopefully positive) news about Joshua.

Hmm. What about early morning my time on the 13th? That makes it the actual 13th, afternoon/evening on the 12th in the US (I think) and late evening in Europe (I think). Let me do some conversions and figure this out.

Okay. So I was originally thinking 11am my time, and the World Clock tells me that is 5pm on the 12th Colorado time, 9am Japan time (I figured he's got some Japanese fans out there), but midnight between the 12th and 13th London time. So, perhaps, if we made it 9am my time, that would be 3pm Colorado time, 7am Japan time, but 10pm London time on the 12th.

Or would we rather arrange it so that the tweets are on the 13th in his time zone?

I'd say let's try to do it so it's on the 13th his time zone (which, incidentally, is also mine) so that it's crystal clear that we're doing it on the anniversary date. Maybe sometime so it would show up in the middle of the day for him? Maybe we could do what you said, karne, but a day later and maybe a window of about two or three hours?

So something like:
-2-4 PM Colorado time on Feb. 13
-9-11 PM London time on Feb. 13 (GMT/UTC)
-6-8 AM Japan time on Feb. 14
-8-10 AM Australia time on Feb. 14 (karne time!)

What do you all think?

For the record I checked the dates: last year's men's free skate was on Feb 13 ....

Caveat, if anyone cares:

Feb 14 -- not Feb 13 -- was the date of the Men's FS at 2015 Four Continents: The start time in Korea on Feb 14 was 17:30, and fans in the U.S. watched it live in the early morning hours of Feb 14 as well.

Don't know where Feb 13 came from??

That would be my bad, looks like. I looked it up on the archived GS thread which had the date listed as Feb. 13 in the thread title. I'll get started on getting the word out that we need to move it a day. I'll get on Tumblr and get the correction out there.

So, in that case, should we try this:

So something like:
-2-4 PM Colorado time on Feb. 14
-9-11 PM London time on Feb. 14 (GMT/UTC)
-6-8 AM Japan time on Feb. 15
-8-10 AM Australia time on Feb. 15 (karne time!)
