On Site Reports @ Worlds 2016

And Kovtun really can't dance. Skipped all his jumping passes during his SP run through.

Kolyada did a really high 4t/3t and skipped his next 2 jumping passes during SP his run through. His quat toe is ON!

Good to hear about Kolyada; and :laugh2::rofl: about Kovtun! I'm not the biggest fan of Kovtun, but I adore that program. It's cheeky. And his moves are so angular, and cleverly done. It's good choreography; but it also seems to me to be SO Kovtun. :)

I have a question about this jump skipping. I know that it was Frank's Policy that his skaters do complete run through's. However, when I was at Worlds in 99 and 2001. I never saw Maria Butyrskaya or Plushy when I saw him in 2001, do a complete run of their programs. I think it's just how they train.

Kovtun must feel much frustrated right now, as he will skate last in the SP, right after Yuzuru! What a bad luck for him!:laugh:

I think Kovtun only did 1 jump. Granted he was on the ice for 15 minutes. He spent most of his time in the corner near the K&C trying to find some rhythm. Besides I've seen Medvedeva (with two 3/3/3 ) and Radionova do full run throughs. And I've seen other Russians do full run thoughs on videos :confused2:

I saw the last group of ladies, didn't notice that Mirai was off the ice until after Gracie finished when I counted and went, hang on, I'm sure there were six ladies a minute ago.

The men were spectacular IMO. Max was pretty good, took a couple of nasty spills, the runthrough was good, 4S-2T and a fall on the 4S were the only mistakes. Got his arm caught in his shirt twice that I saw. Um, it's no exaggeration, his shirt flies up very high and his leggings ride really low. :o: :o: :o: :o: He is just as wonderful to watch skate as I always imagined. Other notes from that group included that I get why people adore Adam so much now, Grant was very lovely and looked so happy to be there, he even had American-themed gloves . Fernandez looked like a ninja turtle.

Third group, Hanyu and Uno had a nasty near miss late in the session, Hanyu fell on a 3A (he did a lot of falling on 3As late in the session) and slid towards the boards, almost taking out Uno who was skating close to the boards to avoid him. Ten cut off Hanyu once during Hanyu's music. Brendan landed a bunch of quads and 3As, did his SP runthrough, 4T step out 3A hand down 3Lz-3T . I made sure to yell a lot for Brendan so he didn't feel left out.

I was too tired to stay for the last groups, it's been a long and somewhat stressful and painful day so I retired for the evening. Can't wait for tomorrow! I am gonna watch every single skater dammit and I'm gonna love the heck out of it! :yahoo:

EDIT: I was on the same flight as the Russian ladies.

She broke her boot. Again.

!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

How many skaters use Jackson boots? How many of these incidences have happened?

Could it be a Kevin Reynolds-like issue, where her new jump technique is just too much for the boots to handle? I hope not because she's been looking way better this season.

I agree, I really liked Kevin when I saw him skate. He had a cool jazzy style and loved his big red hairdo.

He's skating to Tank- the opening theme of a famous 90s anime called Cowboy Bepop. He's dressed like the main character, his hair is perfect :agree:

Who knows, what ever it is. It works. I'd also love to see how the Russian Skaters learn to perform as well as they do. I don't mean just smiling. Plushy and Yagudin were both like actors on the ice and My wife Maria B. was the same way.

So glad for your report, Karne, and so glad that you enjoyed yourself, and really glad that maybe you can root for *both* Adam and Max now. Appreciating Adam is not disloyalty to SnuggleBat, they both deserve

And I hope Brendan heard you!

And also I'm SO jealous of those who like met skaters...like I'll be landing at like 3:30....or 2:30.....literally don't know how delayed the plane will be and the Boston traffic. My mom lived in Boston when she went to college and she told me traffic is horrible on Fridays....well okay she went to college in the late 70's-early 80's.... but still. And the hotel....I'm darn sure I'm not staying at the "official" hotel. Oh well. That's what I get for putting education 1st.

That music screams Kevin. I hope he comes back stronger next year as I really loved seeing him in 2010. He was like Misha Ge...I had never seen or heard of him and then BAM.....Two Quads in his SP and me in my Cowboy Boots screaming like an idiot.

Good news on Mirai's boot. They're working to repair it and will have up and functioning tomorrow.

Somewhere on this forum I read that some of the Russian coaches or skaters feel that too many run-throughs may result in a little less feeling and expression from the skater. They "save it" so to speak for the performance. it could be an old school idea? Just a few days ago, some people were speculating that that method might work better for Gracie than Frank's method, which is still, you have to do run-throughs. No option, no excuses. AFAIK.

I'm not sure if I missed it but any reports on how Denis Ten is doing in practice? I am really looking forward to his late season form

I remember that debate very well. I really think that Gracie should be the exception to Franks rule. She needs to learn how to perform her jumps. Not just land them but perform them. She is so fast and talented. Also, her performance skills, when she does them, are great. Lastly, she is 1000% better than she was before she got to Frank. She could always jump but now she skates like a diva and I love that.

I love it too! Which is why I'm SO bummed I won't be able to see that SP in person! :( But I have a test Thursday morning at 9:00 and then an experiment.
