Re: the audience, I was at the ladies Sp and the audience definitely cheered the loudest for the American skaters (by a lot). Japanese skaters also were cheered for, but it was probably due to the many Japanese audience members who traveled to Boston. But there was support for every skater for sure

But regardless, Rika's SS was actually pretty solid live. And she's pretty fast! Her step sequence was so powerful. I absolutely loved it, but I guess a lot of the audience did not?
What surprised me the most was Evgenia. I was expecting her to be godly, but no, her ice coverage is very limited and circular, and her speed was not the best. She does have very beautiful arm movement though.
Anna's performance was divine, but unfortunately, many Americans did not "receive" the Russians in a good way. Many people were leaving before Anna got her scores, which was pretty rude IMO.....

She has no room to comment on this considering the horrible audience response for anyone but a russian at Sochi. Just sayin'
Best SP of the night goes to Anna Pogorilaya! Girl was FIERCE. Not since Yuna Kim's Danse Macabre have I see such a lethal, fiery program. Holy crap. She's so striking visually on ice, and that coupled with her dynamism today made for one explosive performance. I'd put her first.

I agree! Rika and Anna were so much better live in my opinion. I felt bad that so many people were leaving before Anna got her scores. Evgenia was also a lot slower than I expected. She also seemed extra cautious and nervous which probably had to do with it. I enjoyed them all though

I was just hoping for an epic crowd, like GPF in Barcelona or Saitama worlds (or to a lesser extent even Shanghai worlds) That's would have been really cool considering the perfect skates that were coming one after another!

Thank you to everyone sharing your opinions from inside the arena! It think seeing it live must really make a difference. It's been years since I've been to a competition and I really need to change that.
After letting it sink in and watching some again, I think Anna had the performance of the night. I'd have probably ranked them: 1. Anna 2. Gracie 3. Ashley 4. Evegenia 5. Satoko 6. Rika.
So much fun to see everyone skate sooo well. Really excited (and nervous) for the long. May the best lady win.

Just thinking how good the judging was in this amazing women's competition until Gracie Gold, with that very ordinary, albeit clean skate, receives such outrageous scores both technical & PCS. Come on! Ashley was better than her. As were the Russians, especially Anna.

Completely agree! I saw the event live too (though loge 24
) I was expecting Evgenia to be the some divine being based on the scores she got at the gpf but I honestly didn't see it. Lovely skater with nice arms and expressions but nothing else about her skating, jumps, program stood out. Pogo on the other hand was amazing. I honestly never paid much attention to her but she had me from start to finish. Beautiful, easy jumps, nice spins, lovely footwork with the music. She was a delight!It's interesting that Europeans and Japanese audiences are not criticized for cheering the loudest for their skaters but the Americans are. I think the audience has been fine. They've politely applauded and even cheered loudly for non-American skaters programs which they liked. And even got angry at the scores for that male Malaysian(?) skater. I forget his name. Every country is different. And with audiences in FS, they shouldn't be accused of being disrespectful and rude just because they don't loudly cheer the same way as the Japanese and (apparently) some European audiences do. Now, I'm off to continue to watch the Free Dance.

Sorry, the Sochi crowd, for men, was horrible. They sat on their hands for Jason Brown's engaging and perfect SP because they couldn't believe that Plushy had withdrawn. When I complained about on the Boards, I was told that the prices were too high for real FS fans.
And TAT's commentary (based only on the translations, unfortunately I do not understand Russian) were so biased in the men's SP they were

I've read that in some countries, the audiences don't show their enthusiasm as much, which can be somewhat deflating for the skaters. When someone is having a great performance, who doesn't want to hear the roar of the crowd at the triumphant end.....
I haven't even come close to reading this entire thread..... As much as Ashley, Gracie and others skated great, I gotta mention that I was very happy for Mirai - she pushed herself and kept her performance level high. Of the 3 American Ladies, I felt the most happy for her.
I'm not critizing the audience for cheering loudest for their skaters
Of course, they're going to cheer the loudest for americans, just as the japanese or spanish audience will cheer the loudest for their countrymen. I said, they seemed tough on especially Anna, Elena and Rika, who performed really well but seemed to only get half-hearted applause ... Also, I would critized any audience (including japanese and europeans) who weren't on their feet after Anna, Elena and Rika's performance.
