Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

I really wished he didn't skip the 4CC. I was concerned that if he skips the 4CC, his mind would not be able to handle the pressure at WC because his mind was off for 3 months. The pressure on him at WC is enormous. Pressure is real substance. A person needs to personally experience the pressure to become mentally stronger. He can't become mentally stronger by skipping competitions. The pressure and expectation at GPF was really big as well. He was able to handle the pressure because he was in competition mode at that time. His mind was stronger when he was competing with short breaks.

The good thing is, he won't skip 4CC next year because 4CC will be held in the same venue as the Olympics.
He most probably had his medical issue during that time , we learned it before Worlds, right? I don't think competing with a problematic 4T would have helped him a lot.

When I woke up I immediately checked results....and I felt so in disbelief. I wasn't sure if I want to watch his program but I did and you know what? That wasn't as bad as his scores suggest. The quality matters and that's why he's "only" silver medalist... Congratulation to Javier and Boyang! I'm sure Yuzu will be back stronger - maybe he should change something in his preparation to GPF and Worlds because he always peaks at GPF and has problems at Worlds... Can't wait for next season programs, costumes and 4R  Stay strong Yuzu!

When he loses, it's mostly due to mental reason. I honestly don't think his physical condition was really the reason of him losing any major championships. His injury was really a minor injury (he never had any major injuries), definitely not something that prevents him from competing. Competing at the 4CC would've helped him mind getting stronger. He faces more pressure than any skater. His programs are the riskiest programs. His mental state needs to be strong and stable for him to execute his programs. His mind is not going to automatically become stronger. He needs to train his mind by competing under pressure.

I was afraid he might bomb the WC because he skipped the 4CC. It's over 3 months break. His mind would be totally off after being mentally relaxed for over 3 months. But I thought if he does bomb, he would bomb the SP. In the end, it's the LP he bombed. (I think he would've had a sub-par LP at last year's WC too even if he didn't have a surgery last season because he was 1st in the SP, the same position as this year and he had a whole 3 months off. )

LETTER TO YUZU

BTW, does anyone write to yuzu? Keeping competing as an Olympic champion after taking all measure titles must be much tougher than we imagine. Showing our keeping supports must have a power (I've never written to yuzu, but this time i'm decided to do.).
Short message is also OK. He takes one month off this time and have time to read fan letters. Yuzu is the person who cherishes his fans more than else.

I disagree with everything you say. I just see things different way.
I don't understand why people believe that if someone is constantly competing with this or that injury then it is not exhausting- for your body and for your mind. He had a pressure of WR on his shoulders, the expectations of regaining of a Worlds crown from around the World and especially his home country, the great SEIMEI performance which is a signature program in his career, and then that incident added to the basket. And he is a maximalist and a perfectionist- and that doesn't help to loosen up.
I don't blame anyone, especially the coach- he can do a lot of things for his student but he can't skate for him! No matter what other people do for the athlete to win when they enter the rink- they are all alone on the ice.
And Yuzu just recently grew a lot and he became physically different, his body changed so much- the nervous system needs the time to adjust too. He is doing so many things in between the skating- commercials, charity- lots of charity, visiting the places that hold so much painful memories, now he had a little movie part, shows, etc, etc. Does he have a proper time to breath and relax? I know last summer he had fewer shows but he was still very busy, right?
Brian said that Yuzu is more emotional than Javi so he may take things close to heart. He is human and not a robot.
I did not expect anything extraordinary but he was so off, I have never seen him being like that ever since I saw him competing on the Senior level.
He needs a quality and extended time to relax and clear his mind. He needs a proper rest and not rest replacing activities that demand a lot of him. And he has to face his demons- he it not aware of those yet, he has to learn to train his mind and let his demons lie low when necessary.

Congratulations with silver medal, Yuzu! It was a heartbreaking LP but you'll get over it. New upbeat happy programs is a good idea. I'd love to see your happy self back! Don't bite yourself too much for a failure, you will come back strong, you know you will. I believe in you! Go Yuzuru Hanyu!

Thanks a lot for this! I wanted to qrite to him and I think I finally will. A question- if I write the address in English only- is that okay? Or should I add the address in Janapese too? I don't wish to write it wrong.

Of course, you don't have to add the japanese address. All you have to write is English address! (Now i deleted the JP address, which may cause misunderstanding. Thanks!).

I think address in Japanese could be used by his Japanese fans, I think? Thanks a lot! I need to learn to draw the Pooh for him!:)

He is so sweet! He said that Javi had a painful injury and that Yuzu prayed for him to perform good. He's an angel, seriously.
I am still devastated. Seriously and we don't even have a TCC for him to redeem a free skate.

I'll just rewatch NHK-GPF and think of him on those days.
I know what you mean - I'd love for him to have had the performance of the season. But I'd love him to keep Seimei, in fact. Develop it, so to speak. I hate to let it go.

I think its better for him not to go to TCC, he need to rest, recuperate, and if I remember correctly, he will graduate college soon?! (Im not sure whether he is a second or third year) I just want him enjoy his off season before he goes into ice shows and training

Thanks again! I put the JP address with note!:)

oh, you can get drawing! So nice! i can imagine how it will ease his mind! Any letters, drawings make him happy.
He says in his interview he feels more and more people’s thoughts attaching to substances and feel gratitude.

Just got back from the rink and read through all these comments. Being there was an emotional roller coaster. I think I cried for 40 minutes straight. I'm heartbroken. All I wanted was to see a clean Seimei live, unfortunately that was not to be. I hope Yuzu gets his inner demons sorted. He just looked so lost out there today. He is to talented not to. But as everyone else has said, this in no way takes away from the brilliance he gave us in December. I'll be watching GPF Seimei for years to come. Please come back even stronger than ever next season!

I was very sad about FP but glad because he was Silver Medalist at Worlds. From 2012 when he took the bronze, he was only once at 4 th place. I watched Seimei from GPF, it is my favourite programm, and I think Yuzuru will learn from this as ever did in the past, after 4 th in Worlds 2013, he came stronger and win the Olympics and GPF. I have faith in him , for me is human to make mistakes and learn from them. Go Yuzuru and rest to become more stronger the next year. We love you anyway, for your ambition, hard working and determination to become better skater no matter what you did. :ghug:

Yuzuru's interview with TV4 Sport. He seems more positive in this one and his English is good too! I'm glad he realizes this FP was a mental error and it already sounds like he wants to work on it!

Oh,,,calm and peace (also determined) face. He got matured again. He’s always developing.
