So-Youn Park

I was able to watch So Youn's FS live at the arena, and I'm sad that there was no clean R&J... :(

Her jumps were all somewhat iffy, so I do understand the UR calls. However, the PCS scores were just too low. Wow.... Not even the darn 51 before, but a 48!?

Her speed was better in the FS than in the SP IMO.

At this point, if she really, really wants to upgrade her skating career to a whole new level, she needs some kind of big change. She would need to go to a foreign coach and train at a new environment. I'm not sure if her family is financially secure enough to help her do this, but something is not working in her current situation, and she needs to fix it fast if she wants a serious career. Same for Da Bin Choi.

And as a huge fan, I hope she drills, drills, drills, drills on her SS and overall speed. This will help her with gaining confidence in all elements of her skating: jumps, spins, transitions, choreography, etc. I can see that she is trying to work on the artistic elements of her skating (i.e., choreography and interpretation), but what's really much more important to the judges is general SS. I hope she keeps that in mind, and drills a lot this summer. If she can get those elements together, she can still become a competitive skater since the jumps are basically already there.

Focus on your weaknesses So Youn! Work on those edges!! You're still only 18! Remember that Javier Fernandez didn't even make the cut to the European's FS and World's FS before and now he's a two time World Champ!

How can they be so mean to Soyoun?

Within an hour, the percentages of Soyoun and Rika became totally inverse.

The admin has already deleted the votes few days ago and the percentage hasn't changed so much since then... and WHY they make such a big change all of sudden?

I feel like crying. I really hoped to send my girl to TCC... her financial status is not as good as other skaters in Japan. It seemed Soyoun also wanted to participate, so I put all my effort and time in voting.

AND THEY TREAT ME AS A VOTING BOT

I can't accept this happening. There's only few hours left... What should I do now.

I have to break it to you - you're not supposed to vote multiple times. There are workarounds, yes, we all know that. But you shouldn't do things just because you can do them. They treated you like a "voting bot" because you looked like one in the system.
You cannot do anything, it's a poll. You get what most of the people who're voting want, not what you want. I'd also liked to see So Youn a last time this season, but that's life. You don't always get what you want.

As I mentioned in TCC thread, there's something wrong with the removing system.

Last modification during worlds was: Soyoun 50, Rika 47.

There was no big change, only 0.0n% incline of Rika. Not much fans were involved. If there were, the rates should be at least equivalent to the figure 50-47 when removed.

But it wasn't. Now it's 43-52.
I'm not arguing for something that's impossible- Soyoun was sure to be the final lady.

I'm pretty sure that So Youn has more die-hard fans than Rika. And die-hard fans are those fans who're most likely putting "all their time and effort" (that's how you phrased it) into voting.

Of course there are.
But you see, the last removal was only three days ago. As you said, the multiple votes must have been deleted, but SY had higher percentage then, and till few hours ago.

I saw really low involvement of Korean fans. They spent all their time on watching competitions, including I who was in China.

I'm saying that the difference cannot be that huge considering the last few days after modification... I saw it was 51-46 four hours ago.

Rika had an exciting skate at Worlds, this might have been an influence. But the absolute numbers would be interesting of course.

Korean fans once again exploited by them following Yuna signiture moves voting. We should not participate in those similar events.

I was so delighted by your warm comments on her.
I fully understand and agree to your opinion.

She has improved a lot, compared to the time when she won JGP silver medal.
But still, she needs more speed... at the moment when she can skate fast with consistency, I have no doubt SY can mesmerize all the audience.

I think moving to another club in Korea, from Coach Chi to other, can be also a good alternative... I agree that she needs to reform her environment.

I see that So Youn's fans, especially her Korean fans would have wanted to see her skate. But this has nothing to do with Yuna and I really don't see how Korean fans were exploited. It's not that the vote cost money or anything. I voted as well and it didn't cost me a thing. And I voted once.
And there are many skating fans who only watch Worlds. While watching Worlds they very likely noticed the team challenge event, so they voted. To me that's an explanation why the result changed so suddenly.

Of course it's nothing to do with Yuna. I only mentioned Yuna signiture moves voting things. Yuna signiture moves kept a lead right before the end of the voting. It's very similar they changed the votes in less than a few hours.

Ahh, I remember this. But I don't think that there was something wrong with the voting process there either. Plushenko has a lot of fans. Just because you don't like the end result doesn't mean that there's a conspiracy. And it wasn't so very important anyway, it was a fan battle in the end. Not that the moves of Plushenko and Yuna aren't iconic, they are, but the top 4 did consist only of Yuna and Plushenko moves. Didn't seem right to me.
But anyway, the team challenge vote seems to be more important imho, because I'd have liked to see So Youn there, not only because I like her (and as mentioned before she'd need the money), also because I think it would have been good to see one Japanese and one Korean female skater instead of two Japanes female skaters.

If it were a fan battle, it's very strange though. We are very well known for fandom culture. There are many people know how to win a battle. We are quite good at working systematically... only except in figure skating world.. It's quite frustrating and barely understandable.

Although I do agree that moving to another club in Korea may be a good alternative, I think it's now the point in time for So Youn and her family to seriously decide whether they want to have a successful skating career or just a mediocre one. I'm not sure about the exact financial status of her family, but if So Youn really wants to succeed, she will need to branch out and train somewhere outside of Korea. This is what enabled many skaters to take their skating to a much higher level (i.e., Yu-na, Javier, Jun hwan, Yuzuru, etc). If Yu-na had never gone to Canada, I would doubt her being the star she is today due to the terrible conditions in Korean rinks and the general lack of international competition experience by Korean coaches.

It would do wonders for her to move to someone like Brian Orser or Frank Carroll, but these coaches are already packed with students, so I don't know...

I really hope SY can thoroughly reevaluate her season and carefully decide what would be right for her. I wouldn't say her season was a complete failure because she actually did pretty decently at 4CC (wonderfully in the SP). It's a pity she couldn't medal there, as that might have elevated her reputation by quite a bit. It might be helpful if she can look back to that competition, and see what specifically clicked for her there as well as the Korean Winter Games for her R&J FS.

She also needs to work on her 3F this summer, so that she can consistently do it in competition. That jump's success rate was extremely low for her this season like the loop last season.

Btw, I'm super sad that SY probably won't be going to TCC. :(

Btw fellow SY fans, can someone enlighten me as to whether SY would be able to get 2 GP spots for next season? How would that be determined?

I don't think that she'll be able to get two spots, because she wasn't in the top 12 at Worlds and she's outside of the top 24 in the world ranking and her season's best is also outside the top 24. Doesn't look good. (here's the announcement for last season's grand prix series)

Wow. She's 26th in terms of World Ranking and Season's Best.... Just out.... Ugh.

But for Season's Best, is that including or excluding the junior skaters? Because if it's excluding the junior skaters that will continue to skate in juniors, she could get into the top 24.

There is a chance that she might get invited though. So, all hope is not lost but some luck is needed.

I guess there's high possibility of her two spots.

After this season is over, her ranking will be up at least 20(I think it's about 17?). Soyoun confirmed her first spot by the ranking.

And then there is an isu law that skaters, who already gained one spot before distributing remainders, has priority to have one more spot.

I don't think there's a big difference in ranking before June...

Judging from Soyoun's new instagram post, she's working with David for her programs
