I was able to watch So Youn's FS live at the arena, and I'm sad that there was no clean R&J...
Her jumps were all somewhat iffy, so I do understand the UR calls. However, the PCS scores were just too low. Wow.... Not even the darn 51 before, but a 48!?
Her speed was better in the FS than in the SP IMO.
At this point, if she really, really wants to upgrade her skating career to a whole new level, she needs some kind of big change. She would need to go to a foreign coach and train at a new environment. I'm not sure if her family is financially secure enough to help her do this, but something is not working in her current situation, and she needs to fix it fast if she wants a serious career. Same for Da Bin Choi.
And as a huge fan, I hope she drills, drills, drills, drills on her SS and overall speed. This will help her with gaining confidence in all elements of her skating: jumps, spins, transitions, choreography, etc. I can see that she is trying to work on the artistic elements of her skating (i.e., choreography and interpretation), but what's really much more important to the judges is general SS. I hope she keeps that in mind, and drills a lot this summer. If she can get those elements together, she can still become a competitive skater since the jumps are basically already there.
Focus on your weaknesses So Youn! Work on those edges!! You're still only 18! Remember that Javier Fernandez didn't even make the cut to the European's FS and World's FS before and now he's a two time World Champ!
