Adam Rippon's future in skating

I came back from Worlds really excited about the future of figure skating until everyone started picking apart what I thought were good skates, complaining about inflation, second-guessing the judges, etc. So I get irked along with you at some of the hackneyed phrases and beliefs.

Mrs. P - I don't think anyone has the edging that Patrick Chan has - I'll agree with you on that. But I also dont' think Adam's footwork leant itself to deep edges because it was so quick.

Back to Adam.
There is a reason Adam won nationals over Aaron and Chen and why his LP was 4th at worlds. He obviously must have some talent. He is also a crowd favorite and the USFSA loves that.
It will be a bloodbath at nationals next year. Yikes!! I don't know if I'll be able to watch. The worlds before an Olympic year is important, you want to be in good standing on the international stage heading into an Olympic year. You want name recognition.
Either way we should all invest in combat gear, shields and helmets for all, because next season will be fierce and not for the feint of heart. :hopelessness:

Off topic for a second....Jeremy wants to come back from what to where? Did he suddenly develop a competitive spirit other than talk? He's one I wish would just stay retired. He gave me hives every time he stepped on the ice because I was always just waiting for it to all fall apart. My heart can't take it.

And yes there is a reason Adam won Nationals over Aaron and Chen and he's capable of doing it again. Has anybody heard anything about Josh Farris? To me, all things considered, Josh and Jason are Adam's biggest challenges.....

He never said he was retiring. Yes, I know Davis and White haven't officially announced retirement, but this is a slightly different case.

So he factors in my list of contenders for 2017, unless he updates us all on his plans.

During Worlds, Jeremy reacted on Twitter with lots of praise and support for the men (U.S. and otherwise) as well as other disciplines, so he obviously was watching (ETA: not in person, b/c he was training for SOI, but he was watching). I assume therefore that Jeremy is well aware of what he would be up against.

Jeremy was a brief sub-topic of Nick Zaccardi's article yesterday re Ashley:

FWIW, with my own ears, I overheard Jeremy say in Feb that he was undecided about whether to return to competition. He was speaking to an audience member at the free ice show in NYC where he was one of the performers.​

I happen to be a fan of *all* the American men. There is one skater who I do not think is the New Teenage Sensation on Skates, as his supporters do, and do not like as much as the others, but nevertheless I like them all. Adam's playfulness and choreo, Max's power and sincerity, Grant's fierceness in his LP, Ross and the never ending lines in his SP, Tim's spins, and of course Josh didn't skate this year, but his pure grace ... I am sure I am forgetting some. Can't write forever.

And yes, I do like Jason more than the others. His obvious love of the ice, that which I prize above all else, brought me back to watching skating. And arguing with strangers on the Internet, so how cool is that:

Being Jason's uber does not mean I hate Adam or Max. Or vice versa. They all do things right and they all do things wrong.
But I will defend the things they do right until the screen goes dark

Oh trust me, I am under no disillusionment about what Adam will be facing next season. With only two spots to boot.
That is why I agree that nationals will be a bloodbath.

Oh..............el henry. As a Joshua Fan, I can honestly say that you "Jason Fans" are just so dang nice it drives me crazy. Add to that, it's almost a crime how sweet Jason is to everyone. In fact, so is Kori and if you ask me, she has to be at least part of the reason that Jason never turned into a Diva. Just a sweet young Man who seems not to have changed a bit as he's risen through the ranks.

I guess He's like Evan when you look at Johnny Weir. Evan and Johnny skated against each their entire career's and it was only near the end that Evan beat Johnny.

When I think about Josh and Jason, it definitely reminds me of Maria and Michelle. Now, Jason is quite a bit nicer than my Wife, Maria "Tell her to come to Russia" Butyrskaya. was when she used to talk about Michelle. I'll say this about the US Men. From what I have seen personally, they are ALL Gentlemen and make the US very proud.

The last thing the US needs is Jeremy to make yet another Olympic team. He's almost Plushenko's age and he's not suddenly going to be landing quads or learning to compete plus sitting out a season at his age is going to put him even further behind the top US Men.

How old is Jeremy? I can't imagine the "Committee" would select Jeremy even if he were to place in the top 2, or hopefully 3, by the time the Olympics roll around. He had a long Career and he's had every chance a skater could have. I'd Rather see Nathan get a shot at pulling an upset and winning just like Sarah did in 2002.

Yeah....:noshake: Jeremy needs to put all of his years of experience to good use and become the US version of Morozov. He certainly has the ability to choreograph and I think he choreographed or at least helped choreograph his exogenesis program. Is that correct?

I don't want to call it a gift. However, to say that not having Joshua or Jason in attendance was a benefit that Adam can't rely on in the future, would be quite an understatement.

ARGH. No, he got a massive gift because the technical panel called his 4Lz< instead of the correct << and did not call the obvious < on the 3Lz. Just one of those things gets called correctly, and the correct result occurs. Also, are you really trying to tell me that Rippon's sloppy SP at Nationals should have been third? Higher than Nathan? I'm no Nathan fan but that was a joke.

Yes, well, I saw a clear forward landing on the 4Lz "attempt" that was called < by the technical panel, though there was more wriggle room on this one than at Nationals. As for the net result, Max had two errors in the SP - but his PCS for the LP was an absolute joke. Two points lower than what he got at Skate America, for a performance that was much better?
