I've been reading this rage topic for a,while and I think you guys all wrote amazing things about Yuzu. But why is there such a fuss? Have I missed something? If there are any comments by not so understanding people, how would they hinder Yuzuru and his skating in any way? Is there such a need to firmly protect him from these infamous comments? I myself almost live on the net and haven't yet read any harsh comments about Yuzu. If I have maybe I forgot cause they were really stupid or really few. Some nasty Russian fans wrote something pathetic in Russian and that was it. I don't remember Yuzu being massively written off because of Shoma, all I've seen was people stating he'sgreat and talented and a huge threat to Yuzu and other skaters at the Olympics. Anyway, the comments people write are just sets of letters and aren't important enough to hinder Yuzu. I'm kinda confused about the massive reaction here, maybe I don't understand the thing.

This translation is not accurate. She(the twitterer), not FaOI organizer, asks people who bought the ticket not to resell the tickets.

I couldn't help feeling sad and shocked to know this news because I had bought the tickets for three days at Makuhari :sad21:
I was so much looking forward to seeing Yuzu there...Last year's Makuhari show was unbelievably fantastic and magical, so...
But I know his health is the most important, and he must be the one who is disappointed most at not being able to skate at the ice shows.
Well, I also have the tickets for two days at Nagano :( I try not to think about it and just pray for Yuzu's full recovery :ghug:
 
No matter how many titles you won or world records you break, there will always be people who will dislike an athlete and trying to discredit them (saying they are overrated and how they don't deserve the scores and the win). Yuna Kim and Plushenko is an example. But all that matters is the sentiment of the general skating fans and community, that these 2 are regarded as one of the GOAT. I am pretty sure the skating community (general skating fans, coaches, critics, commentators, etc) regards Yuzuru the same with all his achievements and the performances he put out, many even mentioned and regarded him as the GOAT and a living legend after his GPF performance and nothing can take that away from him. A few naysayers from time to time will always be there and there is no point fussing over them, from what I see he is still regarded as one of the legend of the sport.

I remembered the remark made by the German ESP commentator during his Gala at worlds : "It doesn't matter where he places, to watch him skate is an event of worldwide importance", and i totally share this feeling.

Lastly, I do hope he won't force himself to ice shows and training, since I heard some say he might still wanna join FaOI. Pretty sure most of his fans prefer him to recuperate completely. Guess, we will hear the update of his recovery in 3-4 weeks. Get better soon yuzuru :hap10:

Well, I guess that if surgery was needed it would be stated (I hope). Which is good to know since it means he probably suffered the least severe type of injury :yes: perhaps he may only need some sort of inmovilization.

Well, from what I read in other threads, 60% of comments are just excitement of seeing a quad flip and encouragement to the younger athlete, 35% of criticism of the quad flip technique, then probably 5% going to extreme to say some more well-established skaters (e.g. Yuzu, Patrick, etc) will be out of the game. Although Yuzu himself faces his own challenge and also challenges from other skaters, I still have faith in him and I will just shrug over those who write him off and not to mention that there is only 5% of comments like that. Sometimes, fans can get over-reacted and protected.

I guess he won't be there to receive it if it's on in early June again. Not that it's important, but it would have been nice to see him mingle with the men's gymnastics team.

If he needs surgery, I believe he would've done it already and JSF would've made the announcement soon after his injury. If he does need surgery, I think he would've done it in Japan, not in Canada. I think he is getting treatment in Canada because he can work on new programs for next season at the same time. If he doesn't need surgery and is resting in Japan, he would be wasting an entire 2 months on doing nothing. I don't think it's a serious injury, but it may be a chronic injury. He has already rested for almost 1 month, so he should be fully recovered by the end of May.

"Reigning Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu will be off the ice for two months due to ligament damage in his left foot, the Japan Skating Federation said Tuesday.

The Toronto-based Hanyu, who finished second in last month’s world championships, will not return to Japan, remaining in Canada for treatment. His corporate sponsor, ANA, plans to report on his progress in mid-May.

Since the start of this past season, Hanyu was dealing with pain in his left foot, which grew worse from January.

Because of the stress that toe loops place on the left foot, Hanyu was compelled to switch from a quad toe loop to a quad Salchow at the worlds, which he was looking to win for the first time in two seasons."

You don't have to win the biggest titles to prove you're the best in the world. Michelle Kwan and Mao Asada never won OGMs but they are still regarded as one of the best of all time. On the other hand, there are skaters that have won the biggest titles but are entirely forgettable (e.g. Sarah Hughes, Evan Lysacek, etc.). There is an element of talent required to win these big titles, but there is also the element of luck. You can't discredit all of Yuzuru's achievements just because it didn't happen at the "big events", specifically Sochi free and 2016 Worlds free. How can someone who broke so many world records in one season and was the first guy to break the 100, 200 and 300 point barrier in the SP, LP and overall score respectively, still have anything to prove? Even some of the skaters who have won the biggest titles and are considered legends in their own right may not have achieved as much as Yuzuru has in their entire career.
Of course Yuzuru himself and his fans all have goals/expectations for the coming seasons and we all want him to win, but that's not because we think he has anything more to prove, but rather, because we're his fans and we know how much he wants it. Or at least that's what I personally feel.
I'm sure I'm not the only fan who thinks this way, because even if Yuzuru loses at Pyeongchang (touchwood!), I'm sure many skating fans (not just Yuzuru fans) will still think he's one of the best of all time.
It is by no means viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses to say that Yuzuru has achieved more than it is needed this season to prove that he is the best in the world.
It is just arbitrary to say that breaking records doesn't count as "proof" of being one of the best skaters in the world but winning big titles does. By that logic, you would say that Evan Lysacek is a greater skater than Yuzuru.

In every sport there are athletes who wins less than deserved for many reasons: still too young compete at Olympics or Worlds (in some sports Worlds are every 4 year -period) or they injured themselves just at the eve of the big competition or the rules were changed, or the judges or the referees were bought, or the winner was doped. Anyway they enter and remain in the sport " Gotha" forever. People, even those who don't follow that sport, remind them and love them.
Other athletes win an Olympic or a Worlds, but then disappear. They were simply luckily. A meteor, a mushroom, today appearing and tomorrow disappearing.
Yuzu appeared to stay and shine, and we will remember him forever.

Exactly, Yuzuru has attracted way many casual fans and fans who didn't follow FS before, and he attracts them with his super quality.
The greatness of Yuzuru is that, the more you study FS and the more you study Yuzuru's programs, the more you understand that the difficulties level of all he has done is literally on another planet, from transitions to entries to speed, ice coverage, the lightness etc...
 
reikaloures, agree with your post a bit. Something to prove "the best skater in the world" things. what is the best skater? maybe continuously keeping perfect skate combining both artistic and technical at especially major event? I think the best means very personal to individuals.Though there are many people/media to describe "the best" as a podium career or the skate of their life at big stage. I'm a yuzu fan, and always hope gold for him at each competition. But I think it is impossible to win everything for yuzu. Not underestimate him, just this current men's single world is too competitive and he' s not god.(not mental/ body of steel) God doesn't give everything to everyone. Anyway Evan /Sarah had OG regardless of their career,and they were the best among others at that day.
I knew Yagudin, Plushenko, PChan and other male skaters before sochi (as a non fs fan in my country, I just considered they are famous and successful skaters). Now I know they are skaters of ages and respect their achievements. But to me, yuzu is the best skater even though javi is now deserved 2 time WC. Not because yuzu is OG/WG/world record holder and talented, but he is the reason following this sports and love his unique style. Yuzu gave me pride, joy sometimes more frustration. Yuzu's OG wasn't given ideal way, but he was the clear winner at that time. I know people's anticipation about yuzu is so high and even himself, so they're disappointed to him whenever he fails. But every situation, yuzu does his best as he can that times. So I'll accept result whatever and people's estimation.
Olympics and worlds are big stage, under pressure every skater try to do their best, but result is very cruel. I imagine anything can happen at big stages. Maybe 2018, there are so many competitor to aim OGM, with crazy quads. So I can't predict result easily. Honestly,I'm afraid about... if yuzu might hurt himself and get tired to process/result to 2018. And these days I have a feeling that this generation including yuzu will pass soon, maybe due to new big guns? After 10 years.. how yuzu will be remembered..? I can't know future things, but he is already huge achiever if not the best of best, at least his name can be remained with some sentences of FS history.
Anyway, yuzu please be healthy and come back with bright smile, I miss you so much.
 
I'm just glad to know that its only 2 months of treatment/rest instead of 6 months because that would its bad if it is the later. But as others said at least he can take those time to start early on the new music. Will he really do Jazz? or perhaps he change his mind and do something like anime songs instead :biggrin: ..... I can't believe its the Olympic berth season already :eek:
