I read somewhere in Twitter that Han visits her every day after his own training, he says she is his partner so he helps her in any way he can. And he doesn't want her to be sad and lonely in a hospital. What a nice guy :)

Are they trying to make me ship them? Gaaaah, I seriously do not need any more ships...but I still ship it. :drama: :laugh2:

why not, why not!! :agree:
this is the OP on twitter, written in Japanese, I translated it above

It is from the CCTV's video I linked above.

eta. I've seen a picture of Cong a few years ago cooking for both of them while in the US, causing some fans to fall hard for the good man. :)

Can't say this enough, but Han is such a great pairs guy, even if queen Sui takes the spotlight most of the time  when Sui's feet were injured back in 2013, there's an article that said Han would bus for hours to meet her and stay with her during PT. And when she couldn't walk, he would piggyback her to and from the practice rink every day! He even got into an argument with a staff member because he was trying to rent a small cart to push her when she was injured. Considering all this drama going on with the Chinese Fed and switching partners and speculation about whether pairs are actually happy to be with each other, I'm relieved to never doubt Sui/Han's connection and dedication to one another! That's the result of over 10 years of training together and getting to know each other. Plus, they're crazy talented ;)

Haha well, Sui has insisted many times that they are NOT dating (just watch their Worlds SP press conference  ). But Maxim Trankov had something to say about that!

I have decided that they are not real. Nearly everything I've heard about this team sounds straight out of a fan fiction...

Han is arguably the best male pairs skater currently, especially considering his height. He's incredibly skilled(love how he just glides effortlessly through the lifts, so much ice coverage) and presents Sui wonderfully. Chinese pairs leaving no room for height difference issues since forever(unless your partner is 170 cm like Zhang Dan).

Well, Sui did admit that Han was pretty good looking ;)

It's funny, because looking back at past interviews where they'd talk about their first impressions and the beginnings of their partnership, they didn't seem to get along that well  Sui even said Han looked incredibly mean and would glare at her with squinty eyes whenever she'd make a mistake

Seriously? I never would have imagined! Clearly that's changed. :laugh2:

Haha yeah if anyone would like to read a translation of the article where Sui/Han talk about the beginning of their partnership, here's the link, posted after their 2014/2015 season, and here's another one posted around the same time.

From the first article:
During the conversation, Han Cong also showed off his “senior experiences”. “Wenjing has many strong points, but I’m not one to be always praising her. This is because she is still quite young and has less experience in society so I’m scared that she will be too proud. I tell her when she’s doing something wrong in the technical aspects, and which parts she can improve further. There are also times when I make careless mistakes and she would remind me too.”

In Wenjing’s eyes, despite Han Cong’s complex personality, the calmness and steadiness never changed. “When we were first paired up, I was 40 cm shorter than him so I had to “look up” to him every day. If I don’t execute a move correctly, he would glare at me with squinted eyes. Although I was quite small then, I had a lot of spirit. One time, I felt extra sad after being lectured by him so I burst into tears, and since then he became much gentler. After so many years together, he transformed from a figure of authority to an older brother who wanted to improve alongside me. Even though there can be conflict in the relationship between a brother and a sister, we always resolve ours very quickly.“

In a battle of wits and wisdom with Han Cong, Wenjing has figured out her own strategy to it: “Han Cong is rather stubborn and it’s not easy for him to change his opinions. So I would go and complain to our coach in secret. Our coach would lecture him and only then would he accept. (She laughs.) Han Cong is not good at talking, especially when it comes to saying praises. He is able to give criticism, though he can barely give any words of inspiration, but his encouragement to me shows in his actions.”

And from the second article:
There are also some moments, Sui would joke about Han being her “first love,” because Han is her first and only skating partner, but Han had a previous partner. Because of injuries and schooling, Han left the ice for some time when he was young. After coming back to skating, one day his coach Luan Bo pointed to a little girl on the ice “with thick eye brows, two big pigtails.” “When she was stroking, she pushed off on the left leg, and then lifted it really high, then she pushed off on the right leg, and lifted it up really high,” the 15-year-old Han watched for a while and asked, “Is this my skating partner, coach?” These were the first impression of Sui that Han has, but the two started arguing when discussing first impressions of Han.

“It was someone who looked especially mean, especially mean, especially mean,” Sui repeated “especially mean” three times, with added emphasis using intonation.

“Tell the truth!” Seated aside, Han wasn’t happy.

“Really! Someone who looked especially mean, especially mean, especially mean!” Han’s questioning only brought on another three repeats.

“You are not telling the truth, so I have to speak for you. Actually you told everyone back then that I was a really handsome ‘older brother’.”

“Actually it was really because my mother told me, you can’t say bad things about him, what if he hits you! So, I didn’t dare saying anything negative about him.” Sui completely ignored the sharp look Han gave her, and went on to say, “Actually I didn’t really feel like he was all that handsome, but others were always telling me, your partner is really handsome, so one day I took a good look at him and thought, yeah, maybe he is rather handsome.” ;)

Finally, this quote is unrelated, but I thought it was cute :) From the second article:
Speaking of goals, this pair started a little argument.

“What we have to do is focus on ourselves. Training is our daily job, and then during competitions we have to show off our best abilities, maintaining a calm state of mind…” Han still hadn’t finished, Sui, seated next to him, couldn’t stop herself with the remark, “Han, you’ve been diplomatic all day, I can’t stand it anymore. I feel like our goal is the Gold. Our daily training is very ordinary, but our goal is to be the Champions!”

Both of them are kind of long, but definitely worth the read.

Doubleposting (sorry) but I stumbled upon an article update from weibo discussing surgery updates and plans for the next season.

I can't read Chinese, so I had to put this through a translator to get the general meaning of it. But if anyone would like to translate, that would be great! :)

Based on the translation that I read, Sui states that in 4 months, she should be able to stand on the ice again. I think she also mentions that the surgery was so painful, that after she got off of her painkillers, her feet hurt so bad that she couldn't sleep and she cried all day :( But she got lots of support from the hospital staff, her coaches, and Han of course.
Regarding new programs, I believe they said that their short program is something different from previous years, and their long program is a vocal song that is slow and presents a story. Similar to last season, but more moving and improved. While they were in Canada for Lori's choreography before the surgery, someone else skated Sui's part so she didn't have to. I think it also mentions that Sui is optimistic about her successful recovery because she knows she's young and she will make extra efforts to work hard and make up the time lost.

Solar, thank you so much for posting these interview excerpts. :thank: Personally, I often find it difficult to get any personable information about Chinese and Japanese skaters, since I don't know the languages. This is a very interesting window into their personality and relationship. Some things Wenjing said have made me a bit sad about the early stage of their partnership, but it's clear that she's grown up into a woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind, knows how to stand her ground when necessary, and has quite a bit of sass, if I may say so. Kudos to her!

I also feel so sorry for her that she's suffering so much because of her injury. It's yet another reminder that the beauty of figure skating comes with a cost. TBH, I'm not happy about the drive for quad throws. I think figure skating was hard enough on female pair skaters as it was, without this new development adding to the strain. Some things are forbidden in ISU competition, and personally I think quad throws should be one of them. There are plenty of ways pair skaters can push the technical content without quad throws. And I hope future training won't impact her negatively again.

The hints about the new programs are intriguing, though. They have such a wide artistic range, I hope we have many more years of watching them skate.

Wenjing sounds very enthusiastic about the new program, a story about her and Cong.

"The LP is a piece of vocal music, a favorite of Lori, which she would not normally have brought out for choreography for skaters*, but has done this choreography especially for me when she knew I would have the surgery upon returning home." According to Little Sui, this music is slower, and the story it tells is like custom made for her and Han Cong. "It is our story this year, very much like the description of of our experiences: a man and a woman, mutual best friends, but just friends, getting together and helping and supporting each other for a common goal and career. It's very touching. The content of this program is of a much higher level than last year's, the effect more like a performance(show program?) . Having gone through the surgery and the recovery, I believe upon my complete recovery, we will be able to interpret this program even better." During the time of choreography in Canada, her injury flared up so someone else substituted for her for the arrangement of the program.

* She used the term athletes, so maybe she meant for competitive programs.

As I was walking to work today, I walked past a busker playing Spanish Romance on his guitar. Oh the feels. :)

Sui is starting rehabilitation! :hap10: http://fyeahchinesepairs.tumblr.com...i-wenjing-begins-rehabilitation-after-surgery And she called Cong Han a 'big brother'! Cute :)

This is a translation of the article linked by solar above, part of which I translated. The surgery took place May 5 and she was discharged May 9. She suffered great pain after the surgery as mentioned in the video linked earlier too. (I had no heart to translate that part.)

It is customary for Chinese to address people informally but politely as if they are related, depending on their ages/generations, such as uncle, aunt, big brother or sister, little brother or sister, etc. In Chinese language, there are many more words to specify the relationships, e.g. younger and older brothers and sisters of one's father and mother, as well as their spouses, all have different titles instead of just "uncles" and "aunts", thus Big Brother Cong, or more exactly Han Cong Ge as such appellations usually follow a person's given name instead of preceding it. Also common, a little less personal but still informal, is addressing someone with Little or Old before their family names depending on their ages, thus Little Sui in this article. "Little" preceding a given name is common when calling someone young. The prefix "Little" may stay affectionately with a grown woman, such as Little Xue as her Hongbo Ge calls her. Their daughter is thus often called Little Little Xue as in the video about the family's visit to Little Sui.

I wish Little Sui a smooth, speedy, and full recovery. Cong seems a very caring companion for her and I can hardly wait to see them debut their new programs next season, especially the LP.

Right! Sorry, I didn't notice.

And thanks for an explaining about 'big brother'. I kind of guessed "little' before Sui name means she's just considered young, but I didn't know the family phrases are so common in China :)
