Can't say this enough, but Han is such a great pairs guy, even if queen Sui takes the spotlight most of the time when Sui's feet were injured back in 2013, there's an article that said Han would bus for hours to meet her and stay with her during PT. And when she couldn't walk, he would piggyback her to and from the practice rink every day! He even got into an argument with a staff member because he was trying to rent a small cart to push her when she was injured. Considering all this drama going on with the Chinese Fed and switching partners and speculation about whether pairs are actually happy to be with each other, I'm relieved to never doubt Sui/Han's connection and dedication to one another! That's the result of over 10 years of training together and getting to know each other. Plus, they're crazy talented

Han is arguably the best male pairs skater currently, especially considering his height. He's incredibly skilled(love how he just glides effortlessly through the lifts, so much ice coverage) and presents Sui wonderfully. Chinese pairs leaving no room for height difference issues since forever(unless your partner is 170 cm like Zhang Dan).

During the conversation, Han Cong also showed off his “senior experiences”. “Wenjing has many strong points, but I’m not one to be always praising her. This is because she is still quite young and has less experience in society so I’m scared that she will be too proud. I tell her when she’s doing something wrong in the technical aspects, and which parts she can improve further. There are also times when I make careless mistakes and she would remind me too.”

Doubleposting (sorry) but I stumbled upon an article update from weibo discussing surgery updates and plans for the next season.

I can't read Chinese, so I had to put this through a translator to get the general meaning of it. But if anyone would like to translate, that would be great!

Based on the translation that I read, Sui states that in 4 months, she should be able to stand on the ice again. I think she also mentions that the surgery was so painful, that after she got off of her painkillers, her feet hurt so bad that she couldn't sleep and she cried all day But she got lots of support from the hospital staff, her coaches, and Han of course.
Regarding new programs, I believe they said that their short program is something different from previous years, and their long program is a vocal song that is slow and presents a story. Similar to last season, but more moving and improved. While they were in Canada for Lori's choreography before the surgery, someone else skated Sui's part so she didn't have to. I think it also mentions that Sui is optimistic about her successful recovery because she knows she's young and she will make extra efforts to work hard and make up the time lost.

Solar, thank you so much for posting these interview excerpts. Personally, I often find it difficult to get any personable information about Chinese and Japanese skaters, since I don't know the languages. This is a very interesting window into their personality and relationship. Some things Wenjing said have made me a bit sad about the early stage of their partnership, but it's clear that she's grown up into a woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind, knows how to stand her ground when necessary, and has quite a bit of sass, if I may say so. Kudos to her!

I also feel so sorry for her that she's suffering so much because of her injury. It's yet another reminder that the beauty of figure skating comes with a cost. TBH, I'm not happy about the drive for quad throws. I think figure skating was hard enough on female pair skaters as it was, without this new development adding to the strain. Some things are forbidden in ISU competition, and personally I think quad throws should be one of them. There are plenty of ways pair skaters can push the technical content without quad throws. And I hope future training won't impact her negatively again.

The hints about the new programs are intriguing, though. They have such a wide artistic range, I hope we have many more years of watching them skate.

Wenjing sounds very enthusiastic about the new program, a story about her and Cong.

It is customary for Chinese to address people informally but politely as if they are related, depending on their ages/generations, such as uncle, aunt, big brother or sister, little brother or sister, etc. In Chinese language, there are many more words to specify the relationships, e.g. younger and older brothers and sisters of one's father and mother, as well as their spouses, all have different titles instead of just "uncles" and "aunts", thus Big Brother Cong, or more exactly Han Cong Ge as such appellations usually follow a person's given name instead of preceding it. Also common, a little less personal but still informal, is addressing someone with Little or Old before their family names depending on their ages, thus Little Sui in this article.
